I mean... I remember a quote from GTAIV which came out in 2008. "We live in the land of opportunity. Any fool can become President."

I feel like this should be a priority. Something like this should NEVER happen again.

Americans have to become more empathic and have more intelligence.

Voting rights legislation would be a big start. Some here have mentioned the need to expand unions and there is legislation that would need repealing. Dems can't lose the working class vote if they want to keep winning.

Can we perhaps make a law so that whoever runs for President needs to have served a minimum term in public office so that a fucking reality show host can't make it to the White House.

Media shouldn't let these assholes have a platform. Also don't let the Democratic Party have a horrible candidate.

I think candidates that are pursuing the end of the democracy should not be allowed to run. I don't know how this could be enforced though

Trump was the effect not the cause of Republicanism. It has been trending there since Nixon and the Southern Strategy.

Do something about the millions of fascists in the US. You start with harsher penalties for hate crimes, and start talking about abolishing hate speech.

Have a democratic party that embraces issues-based solutions as a theme to their campaigns. You might say "oh they do this" but as we've seen in this election, if it's about curating the conservative vote, they barely won. It was progressives, yet again, that won.

The solution really is to go further left, but this has to be done by focusing on issues and not trying to water down yourself for a "mainstream stage." As we've seen with Biden, that's not what helped him clean up the odds in the end.

Trump had a pulse because he's seen as the success story of neoliberalism. We must educate the public as to why neoliberalism is itself a disease that has created the plight amongst the public instead of acting like Trump is a meteor that crash landed here. So many ways to mobilize poor people and this party doesn't do shit for them.

Eugenics, ending capitalism, countries working together against dictators, better education, better parenting, yadayada. Humans are dumb, ignorant, selfish creatures that can't see past their own noses most of the time, and that's why shit like this keeps happening, and why we're destroying this planet and actively ruining civilization as we know it. Everything must change before it can get even marginally better. So, yeah, I wouldn't count on it.

We pretty much have to treat every election like it was this. Regardless of who the GOP puts forward in 2024 we have to treat it as if it's the second coming of Trump and put in just as much effort to stop them from winning.

Uranus, get it?!? YOUR. ANUS.
Make voting seem mandatory. Make each one seem as urgent as this one.

Focus hard on education, rebuilding the middle class, lifting the lower class -- and then, stop taking minorities for granted.

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.

Focus on education now, but realize it won't pay dividends for 20-40 years.

Depends on what aspect of Trump... what he did really exposed the flaws of the system and our rule of law, and potentially create the path for someone who is more competent and vile to become a dictator, and it doesn't matter if that person is on the left or right. Presidential power needs to be restrained.

A quick and dirty solution would be to make it a requirement for nomination that any potential nominee has either political or military experience, serving as a politician or in the military.

That way the nominees will at least understand what it means to serve your country, rather than just your own interests.

Impose penalties on social media for disinformation
Hold Fox News to a bare minimum journalistic standard
Invest in education
Expand and protect the vote
Abolish the electoral college

Stop destabilizing other governments forcing people to migrate to the US, then use that as your campaign ammo "build the wall against all these immigrants" against, which people will gobble up

Not a single republican would have won in the past 2 decades if it were not for the Electoral College. Tear that shit apart, it's fucking BS how some votes have more value than others, how can you call yourselves a democratic nation with such an archaic system in place.

The only real answer is to stay active and engaged in politics. There is no rule you can write that can't be twisted or subverted. The only way to fight fascism is oppose it every step of the way every day.

This isn't a battle that will ever truely end, and we need to be prepared to fight it for the rest of our lives. But that is okay, since it is a fight we can win, just as we won today.
