Been going back and forth a little with friends, but come on this is Dragon Age. We heard the woman talk about BioWare we they showed these parts, it shows "work in progress" and we know what their next big new game is.

So our first glimpse of Dragon Age 4? I must say that they really nail the atmosphere in that tree shot and the second shot that I posted below.

Yes. Very much in line with the vibe of Inquisition, and it has been shared by members of the Dragon Age dev team.

It's definitely Dragon Age, which according to some developers (they've been posting about it on Twitter and have given a number of interviews on youtube) is now progressing pretty well.

They have been doing script read throughs (romances are confirmed)

BTW, if anyone is interested in the story diredition, and what hapneed after the events of trespassers, then check out the new DA book
'Tevinter Nights' - its great and really sets the tone

Second the Tevinter Nights recommendation- really good book and I'm getting real 'Horrors of Hormak' vibes from those screenshots....

Thank you for the reminder! I'm eternally up to my forehead in books to read and totally forgot about this one until just now. Past me would be having a fit that I could possibly have forgotten a Dragon Age book but alas. It really has been almost six years since Inquisition. ;_;

Have you also read 'The Dread Wolf Takes You'?

i am really excited about the narrative for DA4
YES! That was soooooo goood, and have a suspicion from that story on what faction we might be playing in the next game, but that whole story is just so perfect! And now I really want to know who the "Ones across the Sea" are.

Yeah same, I'm feeling really confident in the story direction

I was intrigued about them ever since that one War Table Mission

Y'all! I just went ahead and purchased the book. I can't stand these teases. :P
Join us!! Join us!! Join us!!! So much lore and teases to obsess over, there are so many story threads they've hinted at in that book, they could go in so many different ways, can't really tell without spoiling but you are in for a treat :)

Great! You wont be disappointed

Ive always found it funny. Most of the Mass Effect books have been really bad, but like, all of the Dragon Age Books and Comics have been awesome.

Yup, it's wild. The quality control for Dragon Age's expanded media line is just so much higher somehow. I've read "Asunder" like thrice through the years and I'm not even sure it's my favorite DA novel. But it's still that good.

I'm stoked! I'll definitely be a chatterbox about things as soon as I'm finished. :D

I should replay fully modded Inquisition one of these days so I can skip all the filler I'm enabled to. It will probably be a better experience than the one I had the first time.

Asunder is phenomenal, easily up there with the best video game books.

With Asunder, DAI and DA Trespasser, Cole's story is just satisfying

Inquisition is (mostly) a gorgeous game. The Dragon Age team's art group is outstanding and I'm excited to see their work again.

Agreed! DAI had some stunning regions and landscapes, and I liked that despite obviously being Western fantasy, it tried to have its own style apart from Tolkien. And some of the artworks (like the tarot ones) were amazing. My biggest gripe was with the inquisitor's winged helmet :p

All ready as vacation reading in two weeks :)

I actually just finished rereading The Masked Empire dragon age book just because I wanted to go over Fellasan and see what I could learn about Solas from him after reading Tevinter Nights. It's really the first glimpse you get of Solas scheming something even if you don't know it's him and how he deals with Fellasan shows another side to him we don't see in Inquisition because he's our friend and is working with us at that point. Love that book so much, all the books for Inquisition were really good, I think the two for Origin were a bit more mixed quality were that had some really good moments but pretty low, fantasy stereotypes moments too.

I can't wait to see more of Dragon Age, because it's one of my favorite franchises. Frostbite seems to be evolving good :)

Why is everything at Bioware in development hell the last couple of years. It sounds like it will take another 2-3 years before we see something.

Well, we have known for a while that it won't be out until Fall 22 at the earliest:

"You should assume that Dragon Age—it's out there, we've talked about it publicly that it's in the works—it probably comes after fiscal 22," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said of the BioWare title during the publisher's second quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

"But we typically don't give multi-year guidance this early in the year, or multi-year guidance period," he added, "so I don't want to start giving [fiscal] 23 guidance now that I've started to hint on 22, but you should assume its's out there and plans are underway for that product

Was talking to a friend of mine and he said I better ease down with any excitement because apparently all the "real" talent is gone at BioWare? Surely there are still some folks left who made the first game?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Kotaku say that this will be a games as a service title? Not that this automatically means bad news.

To be honest, people say that about every company at some point. BioWare has been making rpgs for almost 25 years now, so of course some people will leave. There are still lots of people there who have been with the company for a long time, and who have been working on Dragon Age for a long time, despite some former leads leaving the company.

I think Kotaku said the former GaaS focused version is not the one that is currently being worked on post-Anthem. Even if it was, people need to keep in mind that GaaS does not have to mean competitive multiplayer. AC Odyssey is very much a service title, and that is a sprawling single-player rpg (and an excellent one, if I may say so as an employee).

Of course there are. Plenty of people stil working on DA, including Patrick Weeks - the main writer.

Honestly, this has always been such a silly phrase to me - 'all the talent is gone'. Its just serves the (wrong) assumption that there are only a few talented people in the gaming industry, and once they leave - there are no people left. No talent can ever be recruited lol.

Mark Darrah is still the producer of the series (recently beat Baldurs Gate and I smiled when I saw his name on credit lol). Also DA4 lead writer is Patrick Weekes, who imo did absolutely phenomenal job with $0L45 and Trespasser (I think Weekes is considered "new blood" in Bioware ?).

As for live service element, I hope they either go Inquisition route (completely separate multiplayer mode) or Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey route.

That being said, your friend is not wrong tbh. After Andromeda and Anthem...especially Anthem...definitely lower your expectation, I know I will despite actually enjoying Inquisition...

It's very weird because one, it focuses on only the people who are visible and decide to maintain a social media presence as the ones who are apparently the talent and two, there's often a pattern of only focusing on the a few men being the talent behind the games. I don't see anyone complaining about Jennifer Hepler leaving the company after being harassed by gamers for being a women who dared to make a comment about games , and she was a senior writer who wrote on every Dragon Age game. But then bringing up Hepler might require people to admit that the reason some high profile people might have left BioWare is due to the high amount of abuse BioWare devs have received from their "fans".

Yes, exactly! I was thinking of AC as well and how that is indeed a service title but it doesn't get more singleplayer than that. There is definitely still a misunderstanding about GaaS.

I am glad to hear that. DAI definitely had great stuff, I loved the Hinterlands and exploring it but it was the quests and storylines of these quests that didn't do much for me. I am hoping they take inspiration from Witcher 3 in how even side quests had very interesting and memorable stories and characters.

As for Andromeda, wasn't that BioWare's "B Team" so to speak? But yeah, I am definitely just going to wait and see. Some areas in the first Andromeda footage looked cool too but the game itself didn't turn out that well in my opinion. It was decent but the exploration wasn't really worth it for me.

They were talking about Dragon Age and showing that footage so it's a very safe bet.
