Was surprised to see "slots" listed among the top games being watched and it's just... people playing slot machines. Is this something new or have I been living under a rock?

Doing videos about pachinko/slot machines has been a thing for years in Japan. Huge online community around these.

Hmmm seems really bad for kids and teenagers having all this blatant gambling content just there.... Do streamers get blind drunk on streams (I guess they might do) or do they do Class A drugs? (Presumably would get banned). Why is gambling allowed and are these channels age restricted if they have this content? Gambling is going to be a fucking horrific time bomb that will unleash in the coming years.

I guess what surprises me the most is that it's just slot machines. With other casino games there's at least some more input and (potential) strategy

I've watched this before. I even asked what the appeal of it was. Some of it is just community. Other people like the gambling by proxy.

It's basically a shitter version of booster pack and loot box opening videos. It's the combination of gambling with the parasocial creepiness.

They have been for ages. Hang around in the stream you'll see they're heavily botted too, barely anyone chatting in high viewer streams, and those that are seem to be some kind of wierd chat bot thing that has nothing to do with the stream? Its all very odd.

Yeah these have been going on for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if there are articles showing that these streamers are intentionally given higher odds as well as a way for the gambling sites to entice the viewers into trying it out themselves. I feel like every single stream that I've watched that has a gambling mechanic (lootboxes, FUT, online slots, etc) shows streamers with questionably good luck.

Most of these streams are promoted by the website (the streamer gets some free money to spend on it). There was a wave of "online blackjack" streams, and I guess it spread to other simliar sites.

Anyway shoutouts to Slingo, the original slot machine

Remember when Nintendo had to remove the Pokemon Red casino? Good times.

You can gamble on digital slots in the EU for real money?
Yes and no. It's illegal for 99% of the EU. As far as I know only Malta, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man handed out special licenses which made it legal to use those online casinos IF you are from those regions. If you're from any other EU place then you are supposed to leave those sites because you can't use them legally.

Btw: yeah OP you live under a rock. There even exists the term "Casino Streamer" for those kind of streamers since 2-3 years or so.

Twitch has livestreams from actual online casinos, has for years. Was really popular a few years ago too.

I'm a little surprised that people would want to watch livestreams of slot machines but then it's most of the fun with none of the commitment, so go figure

It's been there for a bit. Don't know why it exists. Is it just literal slots or is there some kind of play/strategy involved? I don't care to look into it. Seems dumb.

I don't think that's correct. In UK (so not EU for long, but probably representative for now) real money gambling on digital slots / digital casino / all sorts of things is perfectly legal and basically everywhere.

Gambling is becoming more and more mainstream and legal, not less.

I notice this a lot in the sports podcasts i listen too. Used to be taboo, now often discussed with the hosts open about their wagering.

Its a thing.

Yeah, I mean half the shows on MLB Network are sponsored by Draft Kings. It went from taboo to expected.

A year+ bump, but this is currently pretty popular again. From the past couple of days:

Honestly it's probably a bad idea to allow this to be streamed lol. Even LSF won't allow gambling clips.

Its especially shady because many of these streamers have agreements in place with these casinos where they are given money to gamble and they get to keep like 20% of the winnings. Meanwhile they get better odds etc. and sell gambling to the audience even in areas where it is illegal.

There is an Aussie Streamer who advertises VPN services etc. "required since cannot access "stakes"in australia" So they are outright breaking the law in many cases pushing gambling on people with deceptive practices etc.

This is essentially the CS-GO gambling bullshit all over again. Stake the "new it place" is not even legally allowed to be used by people in the United States but what a shock top US streamers are using it and hyping its services

Thinking about it. I actually think this is sort of ok. Running slots always looked like a lonely experience to me. This is at least something to get around that issue.

Yeah exactly this, this isn't their own money they're gambling, and it reeks of those cs go scam gambling sites where streamers would win big because their chance was inflated in the background.

people will complain about bathtub streams but those gambling streams are way more harmful to children as they trivialize how harmful it can be to the human psyche and just encourage addiction at an early age.

This got way less attention and "think of the children" posts than the idea of women sitting in a hot tub. 🤔

This reeks of sponsored streams with fake odds.
