Like the title says. I paid about 200 bucks over msrp for a 64 gb quest. I reeeaallly wanted to play in vr. I know the big ones like super hot and beat saber. Can i play half life alyx with it if all i have is a windows surface? What other great vr games are on it?

You couldn't play Alyx with a surface, nah. You can get by with lower GPU's but not integrated GPUs at all. Minimum on the steam page is a GTX 1070.

I'm all for promoting VR, but the OP explicitly said they don't have a gaming PC, so this list is completely useless for them, and also makes it an absolute pain to scroll through this thread. Any chance you could delete it for the benefit of anyone visiting this thread for Quest game suggestions?

  • Beat Saber
  • Super Hot VR
  • Moss
  • Vader Immortal
  • VR Chat
  • PokerStars VR
  • Space Pirate Trainer
  • Eleven Table Tennis
  • The Climb
  • Lies Beneath
  • Sairento
  • Ghost Giant
All these games can be played without a PC connected. You'd get a lot more out of it with a PC though. Games like Alyx, Asgards Wrath, Lone Echo, etc. need a PC.

ah figures, ill just stick with the quest only games, unless my girlfriend lets me use her lap top

Download Sidequest. There's additional stuff on there. Half-Life 1 (and all the expansions), Quake, Quake 2... all of these have Quest mods. You'll need to download the game files from Steam, but the mods run natively on Quest.

There's a bunch of experimental stuff.

To The Top is a highly rated PCVR game that was inexplicably denied access to the Oculus store. You can buy a native Quest version on Sidequest.

If you own nothing, I'd say there's already a ton of great stuff on the Quest store. But if you want even more, Sidequest offers quite a bit of awesome stuff.

Or just put it in a quote. It's good info, but it does clog a thread where it helps the OP zero bit.

thanks for the advice ill definitely do that. Im close to beating half life 2 and its episodes on my xbox one x via back compat. So maybe this will be my first time playing 1 if the vr experience is good enough. Ive decided on super hot ( a game i loved on my psvr when i had one ), beat saber for my girlfriend, tilt brush, and wander for my first batch of games/apps

It's a very good experience, but unless you have an iron VR stomach, I would absolutely enable the VR comfort settings. You can enable a bit of tunnel vision when moving and it'll help immensely if you're prone to motion sickness. Otherwise you probably won't last very long.

If all you have is a Surface I wouldn't bother trying to experiment with Link stuff. There are more than enough amazing Quest-native games that there's no need to jump through hoops to further expand your library for a while.

My favorites on Quest are:
  • Beat Saber
  • Pistol Whip
  • Superhot VR
  • Job Simulator
  • Accounting+
  • Sairento Untethered
  • Moss

For Beat Saber specifically, you'll have a lot of content to get through before you need to start buying DLC, but if you choose to buy DLC, I'd reccommend the Rocket League x Monstercat Music Pack and Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1. They both have some amazing songs which are among my favoirites.

Many people here will probably recommend fiddling around with custom songs in Beat Saber by using BMBF + SideQuest + Beast Saber but I honestly found it to be far more trouble than it's worth. Not only do you need to wipe your high scores to install custom songs, you also need to go through an annoying process of uninstalling and reinstalling the game every time an update to the game comes out.

And honest I've had more fun with the new free Camellia song pack than I had with any of the custom songs I tried for hours and hours. I spent hours and hours trying out 100+ custom songs and liked maybe 15% tops of those I played. The annoyance just stopped me from playing Beat Saber entirely until I went back to vanilla.

PISTOL WHIP.

Please. Do it. Turn on modifiers to your enjoyment (I personally do dual wielding and unlimited ammo). You'll feel like a badass John Wick, and the soundtrack is bumpin. On the max difficulty, it's a real workout too! My legs are burning and my heart is racing after a few songs.
