One of my fav games ever, beginning to end. (And I love the ending cutscene especially)
Cool story, though minimalist presentation a bit different, and some of my fav stealth gameplay ever. More than the sum of its parts for me even, just sublime stuff.
I'm going to assume they mean the video included showing unfinished cinematics and concept art for a final mission that would have resolved what happened to Liquid and Mantis and Sahelanthropus, as well as been the payoff for a line earlier in the game about how Venom's color perception gets fucked up when he's hit
The story is pretty good in 5. Not as good as 2 or 3, but solid (ha)
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of cool setpieces like that in this one (though there are a couple and they're great) but even the incidental stuff is worth it imo.
Also it's one of the most fun-to-play open world games ever. Enjoy it.
Are there multiple save slots? Is it possible to start a brand new game with all your earnings? Or is it only possible to play through mission by mission again on my current completed game save?
That video doesn't mean the game was unfinished. It's cut content, but we don't know why it was cut. That's not an "admission" from the dev team that the game was not complete.
This tweet and Yongyea's anymonyous talks with Konami devs heavily implies that Mission 51 was likely post launch DLC at most.

I assume Snek was basically still recovering and high out of his mind due to the shot boss gave him (and possibly other meds). It just makes the true phantom pain i felt that much easier to bear

It's strange how little the story seems to feel in MGS5. The open world provided some of the greatest stealth gameplay ever but it really ruined the pace of the game

The prologue was the biggest bait and switch in gaming history. Nothing else in MGSV was that cool and on top of that it was literally unfinished. Fuck that game.
What the flying fuck was that
Was that a fire whale
Did Kiefer Sutherland get double pay for voicing two characters for ten seconds
Was the massive headache I got from the lack of caffeine or my brain trying to process this whole sequence and failing
Right after the intro I went to clear out a compound. I slowly and silently picked everyone off like I usually do on a first playthrough of a stealth game. Just as I was about to finish a new shift came in and I was back to square one. I shut the game off and still haven't booted it back up years later.

I think the part where you have to gun down your own men and the burial at sea scene is the most powerful, best part of the game. Narratively and thematically it was top notch.
That was good except it was totally undermined by the fact if you try and preempt the shooting your own men thing you get an instant game over. I knew the men were infected and I was going to have to put them out of their misery because sorry Kojima I could see that coming a mile off and it really pissed me off that the game punishes you arbitrarily for doing what it then implicitly forces you to do 5 minutes later.
I finished the game without even realizing I finished it. The way the last mission was gave absolutely no indication that it was over. I played for a few more hours looking for the next story mission but never found it ...
I mean it makes sense, the game was shipped missing an entire final plot mission and by all accounts was a product of it being hastily thrown together after Konami gave them a deadline ultimatum.
MGS5 is a fascinating game. It plays very, very well, but in all other ways it's a spectacular failure of a MGS game.
I hated it at first and it ended up being quite possibly up there with my favorite games of all time. It's basically MGS: Snake Simulator in that the game feels like you're actually him instead of watching a movie about him like previous installments.
I get why some people hate this game, its lack of real story and cutscenes and so on but I think it boasts hands-down the best stealth gameplay ever, some of the greatest gameplay and game feel in general, amazing atmosphere and it's absurdly fun.
That being said, I didn't buy it when it came out because I was fried with MGSIV having done me in. I went in having zero expectations having heard how much it sucks by the time I tried it.
So I just read BronsonLee's original post about the prologue of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Was that a fair analysis of the prologue of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Did BronsonLee get double pay for being doubly correct in his reaction

Eh, I would say play until you think you got enough and then call it. It's not enough to see comments, you need to suffer through this mediocrity like we did, and heck. You might even like it. Depends if you like purely mechanics driven games with copy pasted side content, a shell of an open world, awful writing and va, lack of cutscenes and some other stupid design decisions.
It still baffles me that they spent all that money on Kiefer and risked the ire of all the David Hayter fans only for him to barely speak in the game. Just... Why? I actually think Kiefer did a really good job when he was actually allowed to fucking say shit. The idea of having vast chunks of the plot on cassette tapes is stupid because you don't wanna be listening to that hackneyed attempt at a plot mid mission when you're trying to concentrate and listen out for enemies. I tried to listen to them when free roaming or doing side missions where nothing was super critical to worry about and the dialogue would constantly be muted by Ocelot saying some random stupid inconsequential shit and i would have to go into the menu to rewind to catch what i had missed, which in the end was always "Not much".
Can we talk about how
Venom Snake has an entire scene where he sits in a car and wordlessly listens to Skullface banging on about who the fuck knows what and then they both sit there saying nothing while an entire bloody song plays? What the actual fuck.
That intro blew my mind. It doesn't hold up when you replay it because it's highly scripted and the surprise factor is gone, but the first time is quite a rid, the kind of stuff that makes MGS unique.

I really didn't care much for the opening of the game. Fortunately the rest of the game is more fun to play, unfortunately the rest of the game is shit.
