Everything just comes together so well at sunset in Spider-Man. For me, it's when the game looks at its best. That soft, warm glow of early Autumn, the reflections off the building, the way the sunlight hits his suit etc. It just looks incredible.

RDR2 is incredibly close.

Nah, OP just chose an uncharacteristically dull and compressed picture for Spider-Man to make his point. This is what it actually looks like:

Tonky, wanna put some of these in your OP? :)

Not gonna say the best but I'd like to submit an early gen example: there's a track in Forza Motorsport 5 (I think it's Australian) where there's a very low sun on one of the bends that is almost blinding. Makes that section of the track perilous. There's similar areas in Forza 7 when playing HDR.

I'm biased because I love the game, but I always loved the golden hour in Witcher 3. It didn't matter if you were in a city or in the forest. It always looked so good.

I'll tell you which game had the most significant -- Dragon's Dogma. God help you if you weren't well equipped or near a city.

I don't even care for the game but Sea of Thieves' sunsets are captivating.

Watch Dogs 2 for me; Ubisoft did such a good job with San Fran:

I guess RDR2? I'm a bit biased since I played that a lot more and seen more places during that time.

RDR2 by a mile.

Its not only the sun that sets, the wildlife and birds change their routine too. Im still in awe at the the world Rockstar created, its simply extraordinary.

This. Unlike Spiderman (which is beautiful) RDR2's sunset is completely dynamic and affects the world around it. Spiderman's is static. In SM you can't sit on top of the ESB and watch distance parts of the map get covered in rain or darkened by clouds, but in RDR2 from the northern mountains you see the world change around you all at different points.

Spider man for me, especially considering the building reflections looking excellent at high speed too. You cant go that fast in RDR2 lol.

But OP why did you have to torture me by posting a picture in the same pose that they had the real WTC in but then had to replace it with that imposter shit...not your fault but it was like, almost the PERFECT Manhattan before they replaced it.

RDR2 is my favorite, though I'm biased because I used to work there, lol. The system they had to craft the sunrises & sunsets was super cool. Rockstar is able to churn out really interesting color mixtures with their ToD transitions.

Yep, it provides some of the best lighting and views in open world games...

Gotta go to Red Dead. Even this far after release I can still be surprised and distracted by an incredible looking sunset, due to the dynamic nature of it all.

The only problem is the day night cycle is far too short.

RDR2 looks better in my opinion.

I also think Zelda BOTW looks incredible even though, of course, with lower graphic fidelity. I always enjoyed looking over the horizon to see the sunset.

I don't have a screenshot at hand right now. But my current favourite is AC: Odyssey on a serene beach. Watch Dogs 2 is also good.

I've been thinking about my comment and it was perhaps a little too obnoxiousI think that I would consider my ideal part of golden hour to a little earlier on in the cycle than pictured here.
I think Spider-man does a really good job of capturing it, being still very light but very colourful.
It's the benefit of it not being a dynamic day/night cycle which makes it easy to control the exposure for.
Some of these shots of the sun setting are kind of a good example of how typically the highlight detail of the sun is kept, but at the expense of increasing contrast and underexposing everything else, giving a feel of a time much later in the day.
Some of the titles which are slightly lower contrast in style often capture this type of day slightly better (which is probably a contributing factor for Spider-Man)

Red Dead 2 and Sea of Thieves both do it amazingly, bathing you in warmth and colour
But as for other good examples

Mario Odyssey Seaside Kingdom when you're done with the world there and the sun sets down.
