Pretty sure it does. Ghosts exists, psychic powers exist, AZ existed, there's an even an episode of the anime where the gang literally just go into their reflections in a cave into a mirror world, with no pokemon involved whatsoever
it's not magic if it's researched!

Back in the day they'd just crack a Voltorb in half and hollow it out.
IMO Voltorbs didn't exist until after Pokeballs were invented. Like Klefkis wouldn't have existed before people were carrying around keys on rings, or Vanillite wouldn't have existed before ice cream cones were created. Some Pokemon are a reflection of human invention, and thus come after that, whether as manifestations of the collective unconscious or physical objects brought to life or just poorly thought-out world building.

Pokeballs were invented in China circa 1592.

If Pokémon can be, if I remember right, dimension breaking beings like the ones in Sun/Moon, I'm okay with this.

pokeballs as old as time but no one thought to make a list of pokemon until the last couple decades

Science is dramatically underfunded in the Pokémon world. Even when they try to make lists, they do it by sending out 10 year old interns who are working for free, and most of whom presumably die either to a random creature which eats them, or when they almost inevitably end up fighting a criminal organisation.

Why would "special device" imply electricity? There are plenty of ancient mechanical devices and whatnot

In Zelda the older something is the more technologically advanced it is. Point being it doesn't really matter they will retcon anyway they need to fit the setting. They have been changing stuff around for 20 plus years why stop now. Pokémon tech doesn't line up with real world so it doesn't really matter. I hope the team Galactic theory is correct though.

iirc ice cream is actually based on Vanilluxe, not the other way around

I keep forgetting that pokemon has this ancient 10-foot man that just like hangs out. So weird

I think the train was built in the 3 year gap between gen 1 and 2. Of course it's also walking distance so that's it doesn't matter either way.
the moment they decided to have more than one region and more pokemon, there was probably a collective realization of a fuck up with being so specific with details

It's hilarious because for a while the anime kept pretending every new Pokémon was something no one had ever seen before despite them being common ones lol

Pokemon are based in part on Japanese yokai: some are monsters, some are ghosts, and some are objects that were either old enough or beloved enough to come to life.

Well, everytime Game Freak worked themselves into a corner like with the remakes and such, the answer was alternate universes.

I find one issue to be pressed about, Oak made the first pokedex canonically right? Then what are we supposed to be in PLA? Aren't we making a Pokedex before he even exists?

Gamefreak fix this.

Or, is Oak the first person to successfully live to make a pokedex? If the last question, then we die before ever completing the Pokédex in PLA =D

Amazing ending!

pokeballs were born out of the primordial flame as a means to contain the evils of man. it's like c'mon, read a book

weren't older pokeballs made from apricorns, as per Johto?

i assume there's some shamanism involved in doing it with a large nut, though. compared to technology

Ah, so a universe where the hard sciences have the same funding and resulting research practices as the social sciences have in ours.

The pokemon world is home to creatures that are basically magic, the industrial revolution happened way earlier than it did in real life and in the modern games you can carry a near infinite amount of supplies in your backpack because they can just turn into data and back again
