I will say parent chaperones for people under 17 might be necessary for awhile. That would decrease it imo.
of course a few Kids will intrinsically try to get away from their parents as they always do. And seek out the "fun" and parties of older people.

Having kids there with no parents, no money, and no where to go is like 0 deterrent for them.
And of course the scene should discourage all these sleepovers, but that's hard to regulate so I won't speak much on it.
Sounds like there's just way too much coordination of it all for it to be anything else but a grooming/pedo den in the guise of a gaming frat house as others are calling it. Anyone with a brain wouldn't have people that young around or watch over them close to make sure stuff like this wasn't happening. These people grew up in a scene that told them they didn't have to grow up. Everyone is on the "same level." So they have more in common with a 14 year old than people outside of the community.
Luckily sonic fox is pretty young, most of their career has been when they were underage.

It's kind of an old post now but someone posted about Zero's thing being "grey" since the age of consent in Chile is 14. While that is true, it's still illegal in Chile for an adult to engage in sexual activity with a minor so it's not a grey area.

I was gonna say the issue is they DO have stuff to talk about with fourteen year olds due to loving the same game which isn't a problem in and of itself...I talk to kids at work all the time about games...
But the issue is they seemingly don't understand that as an adult you can't talk to kids about everything. You gotta establish boundaries and be a responsible adult.

Deleting a savegame because you're not paying attention is a mistake. Pressing the wrong button is a mistake. Soliciting sexual pictures to a 14 years old girl isn't "a mistake" - especially when you're over 18. Ugh. And the fact that he's pulling the pity card at the end of his statements... don't make it about you, man. Don't go all "yes, I am trash, I deserve nothing, hate me all you want!" because that's not the fucking point.

I think a lot of issues were with people with bad/no home lives. There were definitely people that abandoned there families to live with other Smash players. The ones I'm aware of were people with trash families that didn't support them, i.e., refused to accept they were gay or trans, or the parents were just bad people in general. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were people that left good families because of poor priorities.
I think there are predators in there for sure, people like Keitaro who at 30+ was hunting for barely legals.
You only have to look at half of the accused to know they probably didn't get much attention from their desired sex at school, now they are seen as gods by a younger crowd and they have abused their power and position. With great power comes great responsibility and Zero, D1, Keitaro, Sky and co. have all pissed the pot. A lot of this should fall on Sky because a lot the evil went down in his own house.
It's not something that I could really put a finger on. But even compared to other communities, the vibe I got from the Smash scene was just...off. Weirdly, creepily off.
Nah they do understand it, another thing if that they cared, some people there were just plain evil. IMO this is about power and superiority. It matchs with what's been said how people treated girls in Sky house.

Unfortunately once a creepy person gets to the top, it's easier for them to set the culture. They can dictate how a person can and should behave. They can influence who rises in the scene. If someone had vices before, they'll likely to be encouraged to double down even more.

Yeah. It's absolutely disgusting. And there shouldnt be more to add but even then, these victims are not consenting either. So these vile comments about using the age of consent to defend these monsters is making me sick to read.
A lot of Age of consent laws with low age still have a lot of caveats liek age difference, power mechanics and other stuff when adults engage with minors, it's more about both minors doing a consensual act, not about letting adults have sex with minors. Almost all these laws rise the age to 18 if there's, for example, deception or abuse of a recognized position of trust, authority or influence over the minor (something that keeps getting ignored in these "but age of consent!" topics).
Mind you if it was me I would raise the age of 18 and be done with this mumbo jumbo shit specific from every country, but it is how it is...

The law says it has to be with the adult taking advantage of a position of power/authority, helplessness, inexperience or ignorance of the victim, so the description is big enough to cover basically every case. I got a 7 year old at home and funny enough she's getting into video games and i had a dream last week of taking her to CEO or something whenever this shit is all over with since she likes to watch me play fighting games and such. Boy oh boy is that not gonna happen, i feel horrible for the victims and hope they all know that it is appreciated so much that they are outing these people. It's hard enough just taking her to the parks here in Orlando due to all the predators around. I know Nintendo is gonna push back SO hard on the smash community but i would love if they would step in, bring in some standards and overall make Smash tournaments a much safer space. There are so many people and especially kids who love the game that could use a safe space to engage with others in. Funnily enough i think the community has a better chance at that then them fixing the netcode...

Zero made this a lot worse by not coming forward the first time. With more than one twitlonger made by him, he was trying to change the narrative to everyone. That doesn't help victims come out. Done with this guy.

It just came to my attention that ZeRo had a "Child Prodigy" series of videos on his YouTube where he would play against very young Smash players. Oldest one is only 15.
Obviously I can't say whether he abused any of these children on there but after everything that came out this just makes me feel sick.
