I am completely uninformed about the Smash scene, but from the outside looking in, this whole Sky House thing sounds like a place where (influential?) Smash players would gather to groom minors.

From what I've read so far, it sounds shady as hell. It also seems highly unlikely that the owner was completely oblivious to all of this.

It's really all kinds of messed up.

Why does this seem to be so prevalent in the smash community compared to other fighting games? What's so different with the high profile people in the smash community?
Smash skews younger in general, and from my experience there seems to be way more hero-worship towards top players in Smash than top players in other FGs. Top players in every fighting game are often full of themselves in one manner or another but they tend to have way more people stanning for them in Smash for some reason.

I think it's worth noting that Smash has a bigger age disparity and a lot more impressionable kids, who are prone to player worship, and also a big contributor this whole shit with grooming minors in the first place like with Katie.

There's definitely some truth to this.

Anyway I'm not even a little bit surprised of any scumbag behavior attributed to Zero. He's often carried himself in a way that ranges from bullying to manipulative.

Honestly, it's Nairo I'm most shocked about.

yeah, I really liked nairo's youtube content, and he's one of the people that made me want to start getting good at smash

I was seriously disappointed to find out what he'd done. I'm gonna be a lot more wary of streamers in general from now on

Out of all the accusations that's going in 2020, ZeRo is the only one I'm subscribed to. I'm so disappointed.

Damn, even ZeRo? wow, just wow.

Smash competitive community looks like a nest for pedos.

Welp, been waiting for this shoe to drop.

I figured someone like him would be up to no good simply based on how he comes across in his vids.

Got to go unsub on my old main yt account.

EDIT- Oh, I already unsubbed from him. Good shit past me.

I think the most damning thing to me is the screenshots Leffen showed. He very clearly is sharing hentai with his fans very recently, the question is how many of them are minors?

I doubt it's gonna stop here with him.

Honestly, Zero is one of the least surprising in recent days. I saw a few of his streams and he comes across as very immature. Him sending porn to people as a joke fits perfectly in line with his personality.

Yeah I don't disagree, it's just sad, kinda like close to home as a regular viewer. Totally right about it fitting him though and it being unsurprising.

Dude always came off as super immature so this isn't surprising.

I stopped watching him cuz he kept praising Pewdiepie as what a good youtuber is and that rubbed me the wrong way.

sheesh, sounds like he should come clean now assuming this will confirm and worsen the story

and really, why are there straight guys and girls literally sharing a room with no type of supervision, and a daily party atmosphere.
sharing a house is already dumb enough tbh.
But literally a room?
For over a year.
And what were the parents thinking?

might as well plant a literal red flag out front of the house.

From Smash Winning HeRo to ZeRo to PeDo. Guy always seemed off, who the fuck wears a scarf during smash bros. Fucking pedos.

At least Sonic Fox is man enough to wear a full furry costume.

Man... Sonic Fox and Diago better come out the other side of this clean as fuck...

It's a combination of several factors:
- Huge Scene (Melee was still able to pulll 4k atendees in nationals, some locals with 300+ people, ultimate will soon reach 20m units)
- Very old scene (much like FGC, some people have been active for 15+ years)
- Age disparity (Smash by its nature attracts players of all ages)
- In-Person events (trash online)

Now you combine all that and you end up with groups of teenagers spending weekends in out of state tournaments with no supervision of their guardians.

Yea, Nairo seemed pretty nice and immune to drama, but Zero doesn't surprise me that much. When watching his streams he would say borderline sexist shit more often than you'd think, and bring up very lewd (but not straight up pornographic) images on stream sometimes. So him showing hentai to other people without their permission sounds just like him. I can see him not even realizing he did anything wrong at the time, which may be why he doesn't remember.

The flirting with a 14 year old shit is way creepier though.

The Smash community is one of the most toxic in all of gaming. If I ran a venue, I wouldn't even host a Smash tournament until organizers got their shit together and started taking steps to the (evidently) rampant sexual predation and pedo bullshit. Fuck the Smash community for mocking the victims and putting these predators on pedestals. Fuck the Smash community for having these problems for literal years and doing god damn nothing. Evo organizers need to treat this the same as their CEO, and dismiss Smash from the tournament. At least until fans, organizers, attendees, and competitors can prove they're capable of fostering an environment that doesn't lend itself to preying on women and children. Fuck.

Smash is really big, you have people coming from all backgrounds, not everyone may have a solid family structure to support them. Some people were kicked out of their home, some came alone from other countries, some were completely broke.

It is quite absurd, though in Jisu's case, if you read her first statement, you'll see why she doesn't live in her family's house. If Sky's house wasn't available, she'd be somewhere else that wasn't her family's house.

yeah, I'm not blaming the kids. Well that I know of. I can't speak to the situations that made them "kicked out".

It;s the adults. No adult should ever house any child for an extended period of time without notifying appropriate authorities.

I can see why Zero has so many defenders, it is very normalized for kids to watch porn stuff here in Latin America... It's disgusting, probably why there are so many "it's just hentai" comments.

I know the whole "gamers are trash" idea gets thrown around a lot but Holy shit, everyday it's something new. It's absolutely numbing how much assault is going on in professional gaming and how prevelant that it is.

He wasn't even twenty when this happened right? He probably didn't realize that showing porn/hentai to underage kids counts as sexual harassment. He was pretty much a dumb kid himself when this happened. Still creepy regardless.

My biggest question is why teenagers keep hanging out and living with 18+ year olds. I get Smash is for kids, but it's very bizarre.

This is true, although even if that's true, Ain't putting that on the big screen. That's just being weird if there's other people around.

The kids want to be good at the game and pro players gather a large cult of personality through performance and the community propping them up. Tournaments are/were seen as a pretty safe and harmless place so the adults they played with had a lot of trust placed in them.

If anything I would throw the info now instead of waiting 24hrs, I know, it's putting pressure, but it's kinda childish doing those warnings, and if ZeRo is not a complete moron, he would be consulting a lawyer to prepare a statement and that takes more than just 24hrs, at the end of the day she's losing time and it would be so much better to stack the proof quick so he gets no case to respond.

Just to clarify, I empathize with the victims or accusers here, but this whole situation needs less "drama" and more evidence, like Katie did, and putting warnings of 24 hours or saying meme lines like "my work here is done" isn't the best way to do it.

I get where you're coming from, but nah. The idea of one of my college or late high school aged friends sharing porn with middle school aged kids would have creeped me out beyond belief and I would have intervened if I were aware of it.

Yes, the whole concept of the house seems crazy to me.

Outside of specific and awful instances, I don't get how any of this...like...works. I mean, I know how it works on a "what happens" deal, but the idea of people in their late teens, mid-late twenties just hanging around other peoples houses for years at a time, not really looking into jobs outside of Smash ones, playing a video game which has minimal payouts even at the top level and has basically no actual life applicability for anything past, like, 30...it all just seems so, so, so weird to me.
Maybe I'm extrapolating too much based on some of the twitlongers I've seen. Have friends there? Sure. Hobby? Everyone needs them. Maybe make some cash for a few years? Alright. But making the smash scene your life like a ton of people seem to have done is just bonkers.

I was going to say it seemed like that house was just a toxic fucking environment that Zero participated in. Like I'm sure everyone in that house was getting harassed. But now more and more people are calling him out on his response. Not a good look for him. As for the other thing my initial thought was that it may have been a cat fishing thing but that seems to not be the case. Shits fucked. Glad the survivors spoke up so we can remove all of these bad people.

It's crazy to me how many people seem so adamant to defend this zero guy. Like, I saw some people doing that with some of the other smash players, but in this case seems like a majority is going out of their way to call these accusations fake.

Tweets from Sky Williams, the owner of the much-discussed "Sky House".

He "started writing" over twenty hours ago. We'll see what he has to say in the end. And if he has anything worthwhile to say.

I'm not expecting much at all, personally.

Not all the top player's just focus on smash, I don't know about everyone of course but a number of them have degrees and have worked proper Jobs before deciding to go full time once they start getting really good results. I imagine the sponsors they get and the ability to get into content creation helps with the low payout they get from tournaments. Zero for example retired from competing a while ago and his full-time job was YouTube videos and streaming. I believe he got a contract from Facebook gaming to stream exclusively from there.

Now that's not to say everyone gets that success of course, but it's a possibility of you're really good at the game and stick with it.
