Funny topic. Techvangelist is a thing already. The problem with this spaces is that tech is full of people who believe I did it, I have money so every who looks like me should be able to. Out of that space everything is mood by genetics, gender...
I used to do tech talks in universities inviting women to join networking or programming, but never saw a change, so I am not sure doesn't spaces will change anytime soon.

I thought the link between the blog and James Damore's anti-diversity manifesto was interesting.

Some I've never heard of this guy until today. His posts read very much like jumped-up Slashdot comments.

Color me skeptical of anyone who thinks Charles Murray has some good ideas. There are certainly less toxic figures you could choose who also think UBI is good or "learn to code" is no silver bullet for social issues. No idea why anyone would name drop Murray in that context except to signal to certain audiences regarding other, more taboo views.

It's also telling that the only political spectrum they don't accept into their ranks are the "social justice warriors." Neo-Nazis and white supremacists are OK, but SJWs are a bridge too far apparently.

RationalWiki continues to be the only online source/community under the "rational" label that's genuinely critical of religion and religious influence without devolving into anti-SJW anti-feminist pseudoscientific nonsense

The difference between RationalWiki and pseudo-science "rationalists" is:

The desire to get things right.

Vs.

Just wanting to be right about something.

Eh I would disagree, RationalWiki has a strong socialist libertarian / western left bias. Plus the way their redact their articles is far from being objetively descriptive, quite the contrary.

Is it a bias, or just a lack of anti-left rhetoric?

Sounds well into crypto fascist territory then.

No Wiki can possibly be unbiased or devoid of issues, but I do like Rational Wiki in general.

Most of Yudkowski is nonsense, but I do appreciate that HPMOR eventually led me to channels like CGPGray and others. So far as SSC, I never look at the comments sections and only occasionally read the articles...some topics are quite interesting, but all these communities end up being toxic as fuck and I'm not interested in participating.

What's their "left" and the other left?

What bias do you detect in Wikipedia? Other than a Western dominant perspective.

Yeah Wikipedia is western centric but in general it keeps itself descriptive.

RationalWiki is mostly opinative, just check the difference in redaction between the articles of Lenin and Trotsky and you will easily see where their evident biases lean towards. Anything left of social democracy they don't like.

Oh I don't agree with RationalWiki on everything, but I appreciate that they remain committed to anti-racism, anti-sexism and anti-fascism and that, in order to try and be "rational" in the ideal sense, you need to have those things as fundamental pillars of your approach.

I wonder if anti-racism/sexism/fascism is considered a "bias"

Trotsky influenced a lot of the modern social democracy movement. Lenin is more a darling of the far-left. RationalWiki seems to have a preference for social democracy and be explicitely critical of the "harder" left, in a very opinative way so it gives off this more explict bias. Now, I am not saying having a bias is wrong, I am mostly equating bias to "explicit preference in redaction choices".

But this is getting off-topic so let's wrap it up here :3

Social Democrat v Far Left? Cool, thanks for explaining.
