I'm looking for a good sci fi series to get lost in. In addition to The Expanse I've liked shows like Dark and The Rain. Doesn't have to be set in space but it's always a plus.

You may like For All Mankind on Apple+. Alternate history show about the US/Russia space race.

Love Expanse and I recommend Star Trek Discovery. It's similar yet different. It's also different than traditional Star Trek.

Battlestar Galactica reboot. ST Discovery is really great too. If you want a comedy version which still his some serious stories, The Orville is great.

Obligatory awesome scene:

None really outside of early seasons of the Battlestar Galactica remake. Nothing else really attempts to be consistently sober (free of comic relief) and angling towards some respectable physics as those shows. I've not seen some of the Stargate series.

There's nothing quite like it, but BSG (2003-2009) is kind of similar from a tonal perspective. Have you seen Star Trek DS9? In the latter half, it gets nicely serialized, which I realize isn't the crux of what makes The Expanse tick but it's certainly part of the equation.

For newer fare, I third (?) the Star Trek: Discovery references -- if you can make it past some rough early episodes. Then again, that's Trek for you.

Unfortunately there's nothing similar to it because it's the only show that does politics and conspiracy in a grounded space sci fi setting.

For All Mankind comes close, while Expanse is a political thriller set around the ramifications of realistic space colonisation (with some fantasy ala Protomolecule, Ring Gates, Ring Builder Civilisation etc) in future. For All Mankind is a character drama set around realistic space colonisation (with little to no fantasy elements) set in our past. But because it's set in the past, it's low tech.

You may be interested in The Foundation that's coming out in Apple TV+. It's a bit more fantastical and isn't about space travel, but it's basically going to be a socio political drama about an unimaginably advanced and large human society set in the far far future (50,000 years from now) that's at the brink of collapse.

Opening the thread hoping to find something suggested similar to The Expanse that I hadn't seen yet, but sadly no lol. Hope Foundation is good!

A show like the Expanse, no, but there are shows with aspects of it that are good imo. It's not for everyone, but I'm very partial to the show Dark Matter. Pretty sure you can find it on Netflix. It scratched that space crew itch I've been wanting with politicing and consequences sprinkled about. I'll warn, it's 100000% lower budget sci fi but it has a lot of charm imo.

I haven't watched the Expanse but The 100 may be a show worth looking into. Parts of it are also set in space and it's very heavy on power struggles/politics.

Wow... Foundation looks amazing.
