The only way it should be done is if it gets a reimagining like Insomniac did with Ratchet & Clank.

The base game just isn't good. If they just want to take an old game and update the graphics it should be AC2.

As a fan of the PS3 era AC games... Neither. Or it has to be a damn good remake.

Ubi needs to learn what made AC1/AC2 so good, and make a new game tbh.
Focus on the assassin aspect, the parkour, rooftops and stylish combat (arkham style) please.

I voted neither because I think AC1 works fine for what it was.

I guess if I have to pick one of those then it would be a remaster, but I sincerely think it looks good on PC today.

No, the game is the worst with difference. Leave it as it is. It was only good because being the first of the saga.

Despite you asking me not to I still say neither

Sorry OP :^3 I want my Japan game or Imperial Rome game before they can start retreading old ground for games we've already played

It should get a remake, but not for a awhile still. Keep the setting & story, and give it the modern day gameplay

Ubisoft will make new AC entries anyway. They have more studios than some individual studios have people.

That is why I thought a neither option wasn't needed.

They'll obviously make some but a full remake would require just as many resources as making a new game, so we'd get one fewer new title as the opportunity cost of revisiting the Crusades which we've already seen.

Remake for sure.

Add more variety to the intelligence-gathering missions, new coat of paint on the graphics, fix the bugs, perhaps add in some side quests (especially out in the fairly empty fields between cities), etc.

Oh and add collectible trackers for the goddamn flags lol. I still have PTSD from printing out maps and trying to manually keep track of which ones I already got (if I messed up and only got 99/100, I had to decide if I wanted to check EVERY SINGLE LOCATION AGAIN to see which one had the missing flag)

I would say remake, but given how frequently the games come out and how much the series has pivoted to an Action RPG, it would be jarring to go back to the more simplistic nature without it being a complete remake with updated game design as well.

It would be perfect in order to soft reboot the modern storyline that's currently non existent in recent AC games or freaking terrible when its there

The first game is my favorite behind AC 2 and Brotherhood.

I love how simple it is: gather information about your targets and then assasinate them.

You discover more about the story from the assasinations, so everytime I had to assasinate someone, I was really excited to discover more

It also gave you some freedom about how to assasinate your targets, which was really great.

Its gameplay basics have potential to be revamped to something really amazing

The game also looks really good, even better than AC 2, imo

It was an amazing graphical showcase when it was released, so it would be fair to make it the graphical showcase for next gen consoles

I don't appreciate the false dichotomy of either choosing an option OP agrees with or being implied to to be too ignorant to understand the point, and then going further to silence any actual discussion beyond what OP feels comfortable with.

I enjoyed the game at the time, but AC 1 should not get a 1:1 remaster, and a remake would require a lot of effort to fix its problems. Even when it came out there were vocal critics of its shallow and repetitive structure. Furthermore, the narrative of the series has moved far beyond the points of the original game, and there isn't a reason to revisit it. If they want to follow the story of Desmond's son, then they could use him to follow Altair again.

It started everything, it has flaws and it hasn't been remade are not good enough reasons to remake a whole game.

A remake of the first game would add nothing to the current situation of the franchise. The modern day story means Jack shit, the gameplay loop is so different now that Origins might as well been a hard reboot and it's not like people need more exposure to the IP.
At this point no one cares if the first game was a flawed gem. AC2 was the real beginning of the monster that is this franchise.

And yes, I did care about trying to get the point of the thread. Just because some people might disagree with your reasons doesn't mean they can't read.

A remaster is the max effort Ubi should put into it of they ever want to re release the first game.

why would you want that? The modern day story has turned into a mess. AC best move forward, reboot the modern day storyline into something non-Desmond related while exploring new time lines.

I would love to see Ubisoft go back to the pre origin games, and add a Discovery Tour for all the locations.

I honestly could care less about playing the first games campaign, but a Discovery Tour based around the crusades would be pretty cool.

The answer is actually neither though lol. There's nothing about AC1 that makes it worth revisiting for most gamers.

But if I had to pick one, you remaster it so it's playable on modern platforms. But even then it'd only be worthwhile from an academic standpoint, to see how the series started out and then later evolved.

A remake would only be worthwhile if they dropped the current direction they're going with AC and completely revamped the platforming, stealth and combat mechanics. But that's something I doubt current Ubisoft has the chops or boldness to do.

I've played it on PC @ 4K60, so a remaster would be pointless for me. Would love a remake with modern mechanics, as that world was the most interesting of any AC game.

Been enjoying it on the X lately

a remake would be cool though
There's more interesting, elevated architecture in this shot than the rest of the series. It all went downhill so quickly.

I'd love to see a remake with this type of architecture to play around in.

Man, that would be so good!

I wouldn't mind it. If they're doing a remake though, I'll have expectations of a complete rework of the game's entire design. Actual missions and not the various side missions.

Uh guys, my request to remove the passive-aggressivenes from the third poll option resulted in it being removed altogether instead, so you'll have to vote again.

Sorry, once again.

The first game has a great setting but the mediocre gameplay loop gets repetitive way too fast. Its boring as fuck and the 4.5 given by classic EGM is harsh and true. Full on remake. FF7 style.

I would love a remaster. I recently got the PS3 version and popped it into my PS3 since they are technically returning to the middle ages for Valhalla and I wanted to see how far they've come. The game is rough as fuck.

Neither. Instead, perhaps something can return to the series from AC1 - the gravitas of the assassinations themselves. The historical moment and its implications of removing the target, the viewpoint of the target, the mystery of which target lies at the final destination of the story, and the tense escape and disappearance into the shadows.

Remaster. Sure it shows its age in more ways than just its graphics, but it's still playable and good.

This game needs a remake, the gameplay loop was bad, even back then. It was basicly like this. Go to npc, make missions to fill *boss kill bar* then kill the boss, repeat.

remake but one very much in the spirit of the first

i know FF7R is in vogue now and people want to compare it to everything but maybe something on that side of the coin.

just dunno if i could stomach a 1:1 'remaster'/remake of the first game too much

I voted enither. If I wanted to play the game, which I don't, I could just play my old PC version. It was an ok game at the time, but I don't hink it has aged all that well. Besides, I'm dead tired of the whole AC thing.

Something new, please!

This is quite the hyperbole, unless you really like boxes. There are lots of interesting and varied buildings throughout the series, especially before Origins/Odyssey.

A remaster would not change the fact that it's repetitive as fuck. If they want to release it again it should be remake. A FF7R type of remake could be an interesting way to reboot the franchise if they want.
