I don't remember DDR for last gen or this one, but I feel that they should make a new version with like all the previous songs a sorta collection if you will.

switch or something?

Or naw, let it die?

America could sure use it. if people are unwilling to change their diets, I'd say a fun, active rhythm game is a good thing to make a comeback.

As someone who just got into it at the arcade this year, yes, yes it should. I know it wouldn't be the same at all, but I want at-home DDR (that doesn't involve buying a PS2, the game, and a pad that probably doesn't work since it's over a decade old).

DDR was kind of a fad. I don't think it'd be very successful if they made one today for the west.

If they're not going to sell the game with genuine hard/or metal dance pads. Not worth the money or effort imo.

I'm still waiting for another home console version. Look at how DJMAX handled it. I'll gladly pay for DLC packs that include songs from each version.

A20 is great, but I think that the failure of Rock Band 4 showed that people are tired of having to buy specialty controllers that only work with one game. I don't think a real market that's strong enough to justify Konami publishing something and a peripheral company coming in to officially distribute new pads for these machines.

Stepmania exists for the enthusiests

Also .... What are your expectations of the floor mat device?
Wireless , no mat ? VR?

Dancerush Stardom would probably work great if Kinect still existed!

Would work well as a VR game, though would require full body tracking, so it would have to be late into the generation once optical body tracking becomes standard, which I can't see happening on consoles until the generation after due to being locked into a set of hardware without constant iterations.

But DDR VR in 5 years or so on standalones and PC? That would work.

Come back? They just released A20 this year.

There's also "ULTIMATE MOBILE" coming out soon (don't worry, it apparently will come out on PC despite the title).
I think the OP is specifically referring to consoles. Unless you're lucky enough to live near a Round1, it's pretty hard to find the newer DDR machines in the US.

I'm actually surprised there hasn't been a single DDR for PS4 or XBO. I could see them trying to bring it back to consoles to bank on nostalgia in a year or two.

I'm guessing you mean on consoles, because DDR has had a huge resurgence otherwise with A and A20. The competitive scene is more vibrant than it's ever been.

After Mario DDR we can get a new Nintendo cross-over. Splatoon x DDR pretty much works out of the box.

The correct answer is OBVIOUSLY yes. The bigger issue is how? Good dance pads are no joke in not only cost, but shelf space too.

They should totally partner with someone to make hard pads and release console versions of A20, yes.

But this is Konami. So it won't happen.

That would require Konami doing something within the console realm that wasn't some half-assed throwaway.

Maybe DDR casino cabinet? Dance your way to a jackpot?

Might sound dumb, but I never got into it because of how it was set up as arrows in a horizontal plane, but made you position your legs or fingers in a different way.

My reflexes didn't kick in for it. If everything was letters or colours it might be better, I guess.

But I did play a lot of Ouendan and Taiko back in the day, so I'm not going to say no to more Rhythm games.

I would love it. My cf mat is still going strong!

VR is an interesting idea, and Beatsaber is a great rhythm game. Could see full-body tracking being used, but I'm guessing it would be used more for a just dance type of game rather than just ddr with 4 arrows (or 6 or 8).

The recent DDR arcade games include like every DDR song ever right? If so, when did they start doing that?

Real talk, you might be more into Pump it Up.

It contains most of them, yes. I doubt we'll see an arcade edition that isn't purely additive at this point. Anything not there is due to weird licensing stuff. So some of the top 40's songs from the aughts are gone, replaced by newer top 40 songs.

I would spend hundreds of dollars on a decent hard pad + A20 for consoles.

Which means it'll never happen.

I have nothing but fond memories of DDR, but also have no interest in ever buying a pad and playing in my own home.

Would still happily play in an arcade (and get sweaty af)

I think a GaaS version of DDR would be great where they'd constantly update the songlists so you don't get bored of the same 30 charts over and over. I know there's Stepmania, but still.

yes

i always thought since xbla first came out that games like ddr and gh/rb should just be access points and just update the library/game over time. there shouldn't be 50 different box versions floating around so much as an ever expanding library. rb balanced it pretty well since everything carried forward but i'd love to see it for ddr

"Huge" is an exaggeration. The new cabinets are prohibitively expensive and online-driven, which is very daunting to most arcades. Only high end places have them, and they're few and far between.
All Round1's and Most DNB's have DDRA at this point, and the numbers have been consistently increasing. The competitive community is bigger than ever as well. Is it as easy to find a cab as it was, say, 12 years ago? No, but the shortage is decreasing and demand is there. The community is as active as ever. I would absolutely call the comeback Ace inspired "huge" relative to what it was with DDR2013 and 2014.

That's more or less what it is now.

I think the bigger problem is Konami's cagey nonsense about actually purchasing DDR machines. Most Raw Thrills machines, the American arcade game maker, are just as expensive, if not more so. But in the long run, it's easier to get those or a Pump machine than DDR and most people won't lobby with the owners or managers to get a DDR machine in.

Round1 and Dave and Busters are really the only ones making the DDR plunge around here and that's because the Mass Bemani scene is very large and very vocal. Our local Round1 has 6 damn DDR cabs now, it's the most I've ever seen in a single room anywhere in the world.

would buy another console version if there is a good pad solution. That was always the biggest issue for me.
