damn, this looks really good. Did they upgrade the lighting? I'm honestly impressed by what I'm seeing.

What are the chances of the Japanese release in October having english subtitles? I'd import it in a heartbeat if it did and I didn't have to wait for the Spring of 2021.
I just checked the Japanese Nintendo e-shop, and so far it only lists Japanese for languages. This sometimes changes closer to release date, but that is pretty rare.

The art direction of Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga hold up so well

My guess is that it's not a big project (unlike SMTV where everyone likely is on), so they're taking more time with it.

edit: that's partly why I'm worried about a physical release in the west.

Surely if Catherine Switch gets a physical release this will too. Now you've got me worried.

Why does Atlus still take forever to release their games in English? The work for Nocturne is already done!
They are localizing the game to other languages as well, and it takes time. They didn't translate the original game into Spanish for example, now they are doing it.

Oh and are the SMT games like FF and each one is standalone (outside of stuff like Apocalpyse)?

Should I get SMTIV or Apocalypse or both?
They're a duology so both.

IV and Apocalypse may not have the same aesthetic, atmosphere, or dungeon design but the gameplay in combat is much better and the fusion system is fantastic. Also has the best set of OSTs out there. They're incredible games and Apocalypse is my favorite playing turn based game by far.

Lightning for Smash
I like both, but I'm biased with Apocalypse because how fucking good the dungeon and battle gameplay loop is in this game. I think outside dungeon design the battle part is even better than Nocturne.
Both. Apocalypse has some improvements but if you don't play the other before, you will miss the story
Apocalypse is a direct sequel. Play IV and maybe wait a bit until playing Apocalypse just in case you don't get burned out.
Apocalypse is technically a sequel to SMTIV. It's also much better, so if you want the best and most complete experience play SMTIV first and then go to Apocalypse.
Alright, thank you y'all! I'm going to buy SMTIV and see how it goes.

If I buy the Japanese release (I'm around N4 Japanese level), I should be able to update to the English release in 2021 when it releases right?

I never got a chance to try this on PS2. It always felt like I'd missed out on something great. I'll finally get to play it in HD. Nice

I do hope Atlus haven't immediately forgotten about the PC after P4 sold like crazy. I voted with my wallet dammit.

A whole new generation is going to get filtered by Matador, it is going to be glorious.
2021 probably means I will play this on PS5.

Matador for a whole new generation warms my heart.

Seriously though people, this is one of the coolest JRPGS ever.

When was the last time Atlus skipped a European retail release of anything recently? I'm drawing blanks. The only major one from recent memory I can think of was SMTIV.
They didn't, but limited editions are still worse (or non-existent), stocks are lower, there's still weird delays despite being the same content as the NA version 95% of the time, etc.
It's just worry due to their history.

Going to assume PC port will come a year or so later. It seems par for the course for JRPG PC ports that don't come out on release date. Better than the 8 year wait for P4G though.
I assume this announcement was in the works before they had the P4G sales numbers from Steam. My guess is that they'll port it sooner than later.

That's true although if a retail release happens for the US, it'll happen for Europe for sure. We got this.

Holy shit, I woke up to the news of SMTV and now I'm seeing this..... omg, this is awesome! And it looks like they've added voice acting too, so who knows what other stuff they might have added. Wish it was releasing this year though, especially since V is 2021.

Still, this is a good day for Shin Megami fans.

My opinion, but I think the game is actually hard only if you are going for the True Demon Ending and have to explore those trolltastic Kalpa labirynths. Otherwise it isn't anything horrible if you already understand how SMT games work.

Too bad TDE is the best ending lol.

I bought two copies of the 400 page Doublejump Guide back in 2003 and never used either. Time to use the hell out of one of them and 100% this one.
