I only got my hands on the game over the weekend, I played a few minutes today just to play it finally and ended up stuck on a bush and had to reset the game :/

Sorry for yet another dumb question.

Has there been any update about the PC version of the game not accepting the backer code, to activate the backer DLC. ?

Because i just tried. And still the same

Does anyone know if there's a place where PC players actually talk about compatibility, mods and such?

Usually I just go for the Steam formus but in this case I'm looking at a ghost town.

I mean, debuting with only 50% (roughly) of the remasters' sales is not good, considering that was "supposed" to introduce new fans to the series (small UK fan base or not).
I bought the Shenmue remaster at launch and did not buy Shenmue 3.

I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd turn down buying Shenmue 3. It was just not the scope of what I wanted in a new Shenmue game. I've watched a lot of streams of Shenmue 3 and I think I got what I needed just from that.

The design of all the new characters, as well as the places and the world not feeling super realistic like the original games bothers me the most. Like they didn't even get Ryo's model totally right. It's all a weird mish-mash of realistic and stylized design that ends up looking super odd.

The fighting looking like some janky ass shit kills me too, that feels like maybe the biggest downgrade from the original games. Going from a Virtua Fighter level fighting system to that is a tough one.

I will say they fucking nailed the voice acting, that is exactly as I remembered it and in a good way. The new in-game arcade games are also impressively detailed.

Most of the characters are fairly realistic and consistent, but the heavy characters do indeed that look out of place. I think the graphics wouldn't bother you as much as the screenshots might tell you. The battles mostly play same as the original but enemies block more and dodging is simpler. As for the scope Bailu Village is far bigger than you would think with loads of distinct areas and the second town feels massive with some huge shops and temples. I think there's a good chance you might like the game more than you think.

I was watching it on Twitch so I have a good idea of what it looks like in motion, the graphics aren't bad at all, but the art direction is all over the place. Although the stuff along the river looks great.

Fighting looks very different to me, animation wise and how you move in space. Maybe while played it feels the same, but just looking at it in action it looks bad.

When the price drops eventually I'll pick it up on PS4 for sure.

Fair enough you've made your own conclusions, personally I think as a fan buying a decent Shenmue game is better than no Shenmue games but no one has to owe the series.

Yes my conclusions with my eyeballs. 30 years of playing video games I think gives me a somewhat good sense of what a game is like by watching it being played (I've watched hours of gameplay over the past weeks).

Look, I love Shenmue. First game is in my top 5 all time. This game did not meet my expectations for what Shenmue represents for me as a concept.

I'm happy it exists, I'm not happy it exists in such a scaled back manner. Hopefully Shenmue 4 goes ham.

Honestly, I love the combat in the game.

It's really about spacing and timing more than button mashing.

Side stepping an enemy attack then hitting them with a well timed elbow assault or grevious strike does not get old for me. Also linking sudden shear with another attack shows the depth of combat system.

My biggest issue with it is that it doesn't have throws which i loved in Shenmue 1&2.

Is there anywhere I can trade the tokens for gems in Nioawu? I did a bunch of fighting and have like 40,000 or so now so want to get some casholies.

I got gems from the prize area building next to the pawnshop at the end of the walkway where the Golden Goose casino/game area is.

You have to go upstairs. I got them then went next door to the pawnshop to sell them. You can make some decent money in that area because there's a colour fortune teller close by too.

I think we'll get Shenmue IV and I don't think it'll go the Kickstarter route because it wouldn't go as well as the first time and that'd be pretty humiliating for everyone involved.

I couldn't get my hands on the French sales numbers but it looks like they weren't so hot.

What we need to try and keep an eye on are the game's numbers in China. Those could help. DLC sales could also help. And we also need to keep in mind that Shenmue III's budget wasn't nearly as big as I & II's. So that'll probably help as well.

Any news on the China release? I just see Coming Soon on the WeGame page: https://www.wegame.com.cn/store/2000805

So I've found enough Phone Cards that I received a flyer saying I can exchange some for clothes. Where exactly do I do that? I've been to three pawn shops and they just seem to offer Skill Books in exchange.

EDIT: Never mind, I worked it out!

Hey, so is there a problem with wasting the first couple of days training? Ryo's low endurance is a PITA so I want to raise it up along with whatever else that comes with training.

Is there any reason to believe than Shenmue 3 is going to set the world on fire in China?

Did they even play the first 2 games back in the day?

Not really but it's a game set in a romanticized version of China so that may give the game some sales in the country. The game was showcased during events in China, that may help as well.

one thing i dislike is how people just stand around in the rain as if nothing happened.

Guess the budget didn't stretch to including umbrellas this time round:

Also:

That said, I do like the mud effect on the ground during rainfall.

Is it just me or are the QTE pop-ups during combat impossible to do? I start pressing the buttons a millisecond after it's up and get insta-failed every damn time lol.

I came here just to ask the same question about the sparring QTEs. They seem almost impossible to me. Nothing in Shenmue 1 and 2 gave me this much trouble. I feel like my character's advancement is being slowed down.

I don't think the sparring QTEs work like regular QTEs. I haven't scientifically tested this or anything but I think they're about how quickly you can input the button sequence from start to finish. Hitting buttons too quickly also seems to negate the input, so say you are meant to input XXST, but do it too early it doesn't register the first X and reads the input as XST and counts that as a miss. Try letting the full demonstration play out first and then input the correct sequence as quickly as possible.

the thing about the sparring qte is not the time when you perceive the qte, but after pressing the first button to press all the others the fast as possible, you can take some time before pressing the first buton and still get perfect, but after pressing the first button you have to press all the others very fast. Treat the controler like an arcade stick have your fingers above each button, it will improve the speed.

For those, I wait until the sequence has finished then enter them as fast as possible.
I enter those as soon as it pops up, before it's even finished showing which buttons to push. It's the same combination that you used to execute the attack, so spamming it as quickly as possible has gotten me through those combat QTEs. I was slowly putting it in, trying to time it etc but all kept falling me. Quickly inputting it is the only thing that has given me consistent success through each sparring match.

A way I did it was just input the button prompts for the move you have equipped, so you dont always have to rely on the QTE on the screen. Once you get a certain rhythm you should be able to get Greats and Goods.

Yes, just input them as quickly as possible once that comes up (you don't have to wait or match the sequence's timing).

I didn't read the topic, so I'm sorry if it's already answered, but... Has this game an ending?
I can't survive another cliffhanger XD

It has a climax, a clear final boss and a there is denouement to the story to find Shenhua's father. The ending does change the circumstance the enemy is in. There is an new horizon in the ending.... but at the same time, I would have liked another act but to be fair as a fan, you always want more Shenmue.

I was hoping that PNL promo for Shenmue was gonna help make Shenmue a tiny bit more popular in France. Guess not. French reviews were some of the harshest. :(

Some things that might be positive:

  1. Amazon has been out of stock for two days. Could've just not stocked enough copies, of course
  2. Shenmue 3 is the #2 seller at Best Buy and has been for days
  3. Ranked #3 on EGS for several days. Now, I wouldn't put it past them to manipulate stats, but I imagine that's a healthy ranking

Do you have the link for the Best Buy sellers list? Tried looking and I couldn't find it.

Sparring QTE's work.

You need to input the move as fast as possible with no mistake inbetween. You can do it when it pops up or after. Once you get the hang for it its rather easy to max a move within 2 training sessions. Don't even watch the inputs, you'll know the move since you've highlighted it.

The other QTE are broken. They're unreliable and way too strict. I hate them. The ones in Shenmue 2's desolated buildings were bad, these ones aren't better. Really I expected slower QTE's in this game by now.

Is that really accurate? I know Mario and Rabbids is popular, but why would it be selling so well randomly at full price (unless it recently had a discount that is no longer showing)?

Not sure. It's what you get when you sort the site by best selling games. I assume so. I think people just want to buy a discounted game. Amazon sold out after price matching Best Buy.
