de palma's use of split screen is one of my favorite things in all of movies, i swear to god.
No movie ever has captured the magnificent height of mountains, and the eerie emptiness and vastness of a desert in a movie since Lawrence of Arabia, juxtaposed against humans. There's been dissertations on Kurosawa's use of rain to emphasize a scene, but David Lean's scenes of majestic mountains and desert conveys it the same way.
This scene of Lawrence walking during a desert sunset will remind you of Blade Runner 2049. Look at the incredible colors!
Another scene that truly captures the mystery, the eeriness and the raw nature of desert is when Lawrence ponders all night, and comes up with the plan 'Aqaba'.
And of course, this flawless, iconic shot of 3 men and a well.
Sherif Ali: He is dead.
T.E. Lawrence: yes... why?
Sherif Ali: this is my well.
T.E. Lawrence: I have drunk from it.
Sherif Ali: You are welcome.
My absolute favorite scene in the movie:
Words cannot describe how absolutely beautiful this movie is. You must watch it if you have even a tiny bit of interest in cinematography.
For a goofy, silly show, sometimes Gotham was gorgeously shot.
I sadly wasn't a big fan of Shin Godzilla overall, but it had some gorgeous scenes here and there.I know someone already had a shot from Godzilla (2014) but thought I'd add some more Godzilla.
Favorite shot from Shin Godzilla (best gif I could find of it)
And my favorite shot from Godzilla (2014).
One of the biggest complaints about Whedon is he shoots his films like they were just an episode of TV. I mean when you watch the Battle of NY scenes from "Endgame" it gives you a taste of what "Avengers" would have looked like had it been done by a cinematographer more aligned with how to film motion pictures.
There's a 4K Blu-ray, and it's also 4K on iTunes (I assume other services too).I've sadly never seen this movie. What's the best way to watch it in 2021? Looks like there are a couple different Blu Ray masters.
Legitimately can't wait for the 4K set this summer. Douglas Slocombe did fantastic work across the first three films that should look utterly stunning in HDR.
Porn scenes with good cinematography... do they exist? Asking for a friend.
Any way, Children of Men.
Just watched this the other night for the first time on an era recommendation. Beautiful film - some shots absolutely do not look like they're from 81. Really wish Mann hadn't fully transitioned to digital
