I think it's because the blue overalls breaks up the red on his body and makes him too similar to Luigi when they're both blue.
Having a uniform color with some blue to break it up just pops way more, I feel.
I'd be curious why Nintendo switched to blue overalls in SMB3 and on. Maybe something with that game's color palette?

I can acknowledge that people like modern design. I disagree with them but I know that. I also could have made the thread title-less dramatic but, I didn't want to put too much effort into it and it would have likely just resulted in far fewer views and clicks. I really didn't make that much of a big deal out it. It's just how the internet works. A hyperbolic headline will draw more attention no matter what.
So there isn't much incentive not to be hyperbolic. Once again nobody forced you to come in here and continue to stay here. I was pretty annoyed by the few bizarre responses yesterday but now I just don't care and it's pretty funny.

Like I said I didn't really care about the thread title. It's maybe a bit clickbaity but It's honestly pretty factual about how I feel about the design. I do think Sonic looks shit.
But whether or not you take my opinions seriously really doesn't matter to me one bit after this thread. I mean there are users here implying that I insulted them because I think the design is shit and that I need to be more careful about how I speak about the design and this franchise. So I'm not really sure why I should care that overly sensitive and attached people don't care for my opinion.

I would say that Generations is good after replaying it on the Series X and the Sonic potion of SA1 is good.
Unleashed is not worth five dollars and SA2 was garbage. Not sure how those are misleading, aside from the last one?

There's a reason the series has had a ton of success despite many blunders, and you can bet that shoddy character designs aren't one of those reasons. Like em or not, the designs are iconic. There's an entire subculture of people who make hedgehog versions of themselves.

Nah, if anything, I'd describe "Modern Sonic sucks" as barely even lukewarm. It's just how fucking insistent and genuinely angry he was about it that made this outstanding.
I can't believe I was accused of wanting Sonic discussion to be an echo chamber when it is well-documented how I feel about a good chunk of the series.
