I might get a lot of ridicule for this , but I enjoyed Men in Black 3 more than the original. I also like Spiderman 2 more than the first one.

Pretty much any Mission Impossible sequel apart from 2 is better than the original.

People will say Aliens and Terminator 2, but they're wrong

Both sequels to the back to the future movies are way more rewatchable than the original to me

Basically every Fast and Furious movie is better than the first one

Almost every MCU focused movie ... except maybe spider-man ?
Iron Man 3 is better than 1
Winter Soldier is better than First Avengers
Endgame and inifinity was are better than avengers 1
ragnarok is better than thor 1
and the less popular one: antman 2 is better than antman 1

Blade 2
Alien 3
Gremlins 2
Godfather 2
Hobbit 2 - this was by far the best film of the trilogy
Batman Returns
The Raid 2

Mad Max 2 and Fury Road.

Before Sunset.

Does Legend of Drunken Master count?

Aliens and ESB already mentioned.

Evil Dead 2. I love the original, but 2 is probably the perfect horror comedy.
The 2nd GI Joe movie is better than the first one.
Paranormal Activity 2 nails the formula of the series.
Wrath of Khan is IMMEASURABLY better than the original Star Trek movie.
Day of the Dead is my favourite of Romero's zombie trilogy. Better than NIght, which is better than Dawn (imo of course).
Blade 2 just about beats out Blade.
Mission Impossible is a great spy thriller, but a lot of the sequels beat it out by having some fantastic action scenes.

I generally enjoyed 2049 but while watching at the theatre I often felt like the movie had been edited in such a way that felt pedantic. I really disliked that the movie constantly repeated flashbacks of the same moments just to make sure that we understood how a present scene was linked to something we found out minutes before and that was, to me, very off-putting.

But what was it that made you enjoy it more than the original? Genuinely curious.

Even though the first movie is a masterpiece of horror cinema and I do like and respect it very much, I'm tempted to say I enjoyed Flanagan's Doctor Sleep a lot more than Kubrick's The Shining.

Paddington 2 - although 1 is still very good, 2 is perfection. (well, 99/100 I guess)

Mad Max: Fury Road will forever be my first choice for a sequel that blows away the rest of the series.

The Dark Knight is probably second. Ledger's Joker is an icon.

Aliens

It's more rewatchable.
Hard disagree. Aliens is a good action movie but I love the atmosphere and slow-building dread of Alien.

Absolutely. I rewatched Blade Runner: The Final Cut in anticipation of the sequel, so I can say for absolute sure that, to me, BR2049 is much more enjoyable, engaging, poignant, and beautifully filmed.

Reminder that the thread specified "that you enjoy watching" and not "are better movies". These are personal lists.

I do not think that Aliens is a better movie than Alien by stretch of the imagination, but it's a much more fun, easier rewatch for me precisely because the first movie succeeded in creating feelings of dread and despair.

For me:

Dark Knight
Fury Road
Empire Strikes Back
Winter Soldier

As a child I enjoyed Ghostbusters II and Ninja Turtles 2 more than the originals. Rewatching them as an adult definitely changed that however. GBII is decent but not as funny or tightly written as the first. Secret of the Ooze is really bad unfortunately.

I've said it before but Jason X is IMO the only legitimately good Friday the 13th movie.

Spider-Man 2 is better than 1.

Honorable mention to Wolf Creek 2. While I think I like the first one more, especially because I don't like the ending of WC2, I was surprised at how clever the script and protagonist were. I didn't expect it to be this good, though the ending left a bitter taste in my mouth.

The Raid 2.
I love The Raid. It's a damn near perfect, tight action flick with a good amount of gunplay, and a wonderful amount of martial arts.
But the sequel, for me, hits all the marks on expanding that into a story that goes above and beyond the original flick, not to mention the improved camera work, choreography, gore, characters, etc.
The only thing that's negative about it for me is the weird
porn dungeon
bit, which just feels out of place, but ends with a good action scene, so I can't hate on that part too much.

So yeah. The Raid 2. Tell your friends.

edit: Also Blade Runner 2049. What a film!

Oh, here's a controversial one. Cube 2: Hypercube is a real ballsy sequel. The first Cube is kinda like Saw before Saw, it would have been really easy to just repeat the same formula over many sequels, but with Hypercube, they did away with the death traps and the different-colored rooms and in doing so made their job considerably harder, but it's a more interesting movie thematically. The first movie is more conventionally entertaining and less pretentious, and it doesn't overuse cheap CGI, but I applaud them for thinking outside the box with the sequel.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

I loved Excellent Adventure, but the Steve Vai soundtrack from Bogus made me the man I am today.
