Can someone give a rundown on what actually happened here? How did he "block a vote"? What's the "unanimous consent" that Gillibrand mentions?

Typical Republican party when in power. Pass tax cuts for the rich and increase the debt but as soon as a Democrat is in office they will turn back into the party of fiscal responsibility. Rinse and repeat

Best of luck to Kentucky residents. No amount of "VOTE" this place can/will shout your way that will be able to change that state's mentality or demographics in your lifetime. This stuff's going to be far too common over the next decades

"Republican that voted in favor of economy destroying tax cut blocks plan to help heroes."

That could literally be a headline for most weeks at this rate. Inhuman garbage, the entire lot of them.

He prevented the bill from being fast-tracked. It's still expected to pass through regular proceedings.

unanimous consent - A senator may request unanimous consent on the floor to set aside a specified rule of procedure so as to expedite proceedings. If no Senator objects, the Senate permits the action, but if any one senator objects, the request is rejected. Unanimous consent requests with only immediate effects are routinely granted, but ones affecting the floor schedule, the conditions of considering a bill or other business, or the rights of other senators, are normally not offered, or a floor leader will object to it, until all senators concerned have had an opportunity to inform the leaders that they find it acceptable.

Republican voters have no respect for themselves nor any standards of decency. They don't hold any of their politicians accountable for shit.

1. Cuts taxes on rich.
2. Blocks funding for 9/11 responderswho are literally dying.
3. Flys to Canada for hernia surgery.

Fuck him. I hope any fire/police/EMT calls from his residences go unanswered.

To be clear by offset he means that to fund this other "less valuable" costs must be cut. Fucking weasel.

Damn, I posted this reply:

"Oh, so it's okay to cut $1.7 trillion in tax revenues, most of that going to the rich and corporations, but we can't afford to spend $10B helping some of the victims of an attack on America without careful budgeting?

Fuck off and jump off a bridge"

And I shit you not, it was flagged within 15 seconds for "advocating self-harm or suicide"

It amazes me there is that many republican voters, it's baffling. Shoot yourself in both feet, hands while getting kicked in the crotch, punched in the gut, face, set on fire and stabbed. Vote republican.

Why are they even expending the effort to oppose this? It can't be that much money and everyone is for it. It's not like you can brag to your constituents that you blocked funds for 9/11 survivors.

You can brag that you forced cuts in "unnecessary areas" - probably things that help the under-privileged families and dis proportionally racial minorities - and still ended up with the compensation for 9/11 victims. That's his goal.

This guy is such a fake libertarian. I don't think Ron Paul would have done this citing that it is such a small % and within defense funding, but he'd block the fuck out of everything else.

All libertarians are fake libertarians. That entire "movement" was a manufactured cargo cult of capitalism that paid vague lip service to Lockean Liberalism while in reality functioning as a political apparatus for super rich people to exert influence over government to accumulate wealth as quickly as possible, through whatever means were available. Rand Paul could not care less about liberal idealism except inasmuch as it can be exploited to benefit those who possess the most capital.

Probably the only thing keeping the guy from fully embracing Trumpian fascism like the rest of his formerly libertarian grifter squad is his name's proximity to Ayn Rand and Ron Paul, which makes disassociating from the libertarian identity practically impossible. It'd be like a guy called "Hitler von Mussolini," who spent his whole life advocating Nazism, trying to rebrand as a moderate liberal.

Wait McConnel said this would pass didn't he?

Mitch gave his word that he'd expedite the process, up to and including a straight up and down vote on this without throwing it into some other measure or adding pork to it. If Mitch is to be believed, he will bring this up to the Senate floor to be solely about this issue and no other.

Thus far he hasn't broken his word. He certainly could have gotten to Paul and Lee about this and told them not to object to unanimous consent, but at the end of the day that's up to those two senators.

By the way, John Feal and Jon Stewart's response to this:

Republicans continue to make me wonder just how comically evil someone has to be before people will actually realize how horrible of a party they have.
