Yeah, I saw it some minutes ago and I'm intrigued because Virtua Fighter (1) emulation is notoriously bad on MAME and other emulators, maybe they reprogrammed it?... or is this like really so hardcore that Sega made the emulator from scratch?
Just for real Sega hardcore fans: this is the first time Revenge of Death Adder is available in a home consumer form, that's pretty much alone a good reason for getting one if you're really into Sega stuff.
"The shape of the back side, such as the design of the handle that is gripped during transportation, is faithfully reproduced. The yellow knob on the lower left side is a power switch, and from here on, it has HDMI, a joystick USB (2 ports), an earphone jack, and a micro USB connection terminal for power."

madness that this happened before M2 did a sega ages release of death adder, but whatever, I'll take it. Hopefully there's a way to extract the data so I have legit copies I can play on emulators too.
That means Sega will have legit emulation for some of its Arcade classics sorted, we might see more re-releases from the Archives, Virtua Racing, OG Virtua Fighter etc.
For the love god get M2 to do an Arcade archives of Model 1 & 2 games. You could put it on the Ouya and I'd buy that shit.

I'll be over here praying for a good remaining 26 games, but this whole concept already has me cautiously optimistic. I love this design and hope they mean what they say on the buttons/joystick. Plus the promise of new add-on USB pads has me giddy.
With them immediately announcing Revenge of Death-Adder this seems extremely promising, especially at 36 games.
I am actually sort of overwhelmed at the potential of this considering they are pretty likely to put a lot of games on here that never got home releases. Most Model 1 games would be awesome, but I would love to see something like Arabian Fight in there as well.

I was thinking I could skip this until I saw Revenge of Death Adder. Guess it can sit next to my Neo Geo mini. Here's hoping for more obscurities to be announced for it.
A bit odd that they went with an Astro City rather than Aero City, I know the former is way more iconic but the era of games in that list are pretty much before it existed.

In the interview the Sega guys commented that Astro City was chosen because of Virtua Fighter, the most important or most celebrated franchise for Sega in Arcades, and also the game that "brings the best memories" for the original Sega arcade staff.
Some of the more interesting points (machine translated so don't take it as gospel):
--I'm naturally very curious about the other titles that have been included as well. When will you announce the remaining 26 titles?
Shimokawa: We plan to make a presentation once a month in four sessions, starting on July 8. Here is a video featuring famous Sega staff members. You can see how the whole SEGA group was in the golden age of arcade games! . We have a lot of other things in the pipeline for fans to enjoy. We're hoping to release this one in stages, so please look forward to it.
--Is it possible to connect an HDMI cable for video and audio output?
Aoji: Absolutely, and fans will be disappointed if you don't provide an HDMI output. I'm sorry.
--I understand from the information you provided that you will also be selling a dedicated controller for this game.
Shimokawa: Yes. We'll be releasing the arcade version of the Astro City Mini Arcade Stick and the Astro City Mini Arcade Stick. We're planning to release a control pad at the same time as the main unit. It's the first pad in Japan to be connected to Astro City, isn't it?
--The Arcade Stick will probably be a replica of Astro City's companion piece. What will the "control pad" look like? Are you planning to design it similar to the home Mega Drive pads?
Aochi: Yes, I agree. Fans are probably most familiar with the Megadrive's pads and So I'm going to use reliable parts and then make a good original one. Even in games like Virtua Fighter, the commands are easy to enter accurately and full of Sega love. We want to make it overflowing, so please stay tuned for this one, as well as the design.
--Will the game support two or more players at the same time, or will it support competitive play?
Shimokawa: Depending on the game, like "Golden Axe: Revenge of the Death Adder," there may be three or four players, depending on the game. Some of them can be played by up to two people at the same time, so I wanted to make sure that was included in the game. I apologize for the communication feature, but I had to dismiss it. When playing with two players, one player can control the game with the lever and buttons on the main unit and the other player can control the game with the lever and buttons on the main unit. One person can connect one joystick to play, or two joysticks You can even play with two players by doing so.
Golden Axe: Revenge of the Death Adder originally allowed up to four players to play simultaneously, but Astro City Mini will support up to two players at a time!
--just like a real board, you can move the dip switches and test modes around, and the difficulty level for each title. Is there a feature that allows you to play with various settings such as I'm the same way, but for an arcade game enthusiast, the ability to tinker with the board is very important. I'm glad to hear that, but....
Aoji: We wanted to make that happen as well, but when we thought about offering it as a product, we couldn't resist. It was a difficult aspect of the game. So we have made Astro City Mini so that it can only be played on certain settings.
--Does it have the ability to save play data, just like the Mega Drive Mini and Game Gear Mikro?
Aochi: Yes. You can save each title. Essentially, arcade games are designed to be played by seeing how far you can go with one coin. In Astro City Mini, if you make it to the later stages successfully, you can save your data once and If you leave it off, we'll try and enjoy it as many times as we can from there.
So it *sounds like*, hdmi out, sega will sell usb controllers for it, up to 2 players, no DIP switch support, one save per game. Translation may be inaccurate of course
