Seagate is on track to deliver ~50TB hard disk drives by 2026, ~100TB HDDs by 2030, and 120TB+ units early next decade, according to the company's recently revealed product and technology roadmaps.

Seagate says that it is on track to build a 50TB hard drive sometime in 2026 and a 100TB HDD in 2030.

In a bid to build a nine-platter 40TB hard drive, Seagate needs to increase the areal density of its media to around 2600Gb/in2 (2.6Tb/in2). Seagate has already achieved such areal density, though it is unclear whether the company already has prototypes of hard drives running such platters, or only tests them on spinstands.

I still won't believe there will be a 100TB Call of Duty with all the season pass and expansion packs installed.

I refuse to believe it.

100 TB? Cool, should install 3 CoD campaigns or 1 campaign and multiplayer that year.

And to think I thought a 60GB HDD on a PS3 meant I would never have to worry about space ever again

Based on what I can see on amazon with the current mega capacity HDDs, read speed looks maybe double of pre-SSD era drives Random read/write IO probably horrendous, how are they going to handle that? Or maybe they don't and the application here is slow speed cloud storage.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who instantly thought of Call of Duty. 😂😂😂

Other than mass storage and backup for servers I don't see much value in HDD going forward. I think Linus even mentioned a lot of data centres moving to sdd already.

Back in 1994 I thought a 540 megabyte drive would be more than I'd ever need. A few years later it was a 2 gigabyte drive that I thought would do the same. Now, I have a 14TB external drive that is mostly full. I wonder if the rate of data storage acceleration will slow now that we're likely going to be at 4K content (video and games) for a while.

Errrrrr... I don't think I want 100tb of data on a Seagate drive. I've had so many fail I don't even consider buying them anymore.
