You do hate to see it, particularly if these "scalpers" were just people selling a single extra pre-order or legitimately needed the money or something. From the sounds of it, these were mostly one-off Craigslist/Kijiji type sales, not scalpers shipping things out en masse from a warehouse.

How are the two things equivalent? It's not illegal to buy a console and resell it for a profit. It is illegal to steal one.

I know I did to make sure I got one on the first day, sold my extras to a friend and coworker at cost. Would obviously never meet up with anyone online based off the reactions here.

A more fitting punishment for scalpers would be for them to sit on the inventory until they become more available. But robbery, I wouldn't wish that on anyone
