I think it might be related to this episode being kind of last minute. SNL rarely goes five new episodes in a row and they decided to add this sixth episode about a week and a half ago.

That episode was a mess even by SNL standards, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since the past week was crazy AND this is their sixth consecutive new episode (which is pretty much unheard of and probably a record for the series).
