and when will that be? the US has been in there going on 18 years now. before that in the early 90s, it was civil war. before that was ten years of Soviet invasion.
what exactly is the US going to do this year that will help stabilize everything?
also,

this whole quote is basically blaming Obama for ISIS which is nonsense.

When Afghanistan can reliably defend itself from threats. But you're actually asking what the US is going to do with President Bonespurs in charge? You know the answer. Nothing.

Yes but more people die if we leave than if we stay. That makes a difference to me.

or the US escalates the number of troops and the other players respond in kind. and how long do we stay for?

lol. If you're take from this is to do greentext and simplify the complications of the Middle East quagmire, there is no reason for us to even discuss.

A handful of small American units being there with the Kurds is plenty enough to keep Turkey or any other player in the region from fucking with them. Especially when we provide much more than mere personnel being deployed. You can't with a straight face say they are cannon fodder when we have been very successful with pushing out ISIS and being a deterrence to other parties in the region. Remember that SDF has made major strides in taking back a major portion of the country with the aid of coalition forces.

the Kurds have been used by the US as much as anyone. an indefinite military deployment is not the answer. after all these it's obvious it's not the answer.
if we're not willing to force Iran, Iraq, Syria to the bargaining table to work out a political solution once and for all then we should step aside for someone who is able to. no, it's not Russia.

The Kurds weren't going to be massacred by Turkey had America been there.

America is a diverse nation with many opinions on foreign policy, this is all on Trump. It was his decision that they leave, and not with a proper time table.

yes I'm aware how diverse America is. but this is the trap that the US always falls in and why it sucks at nation building.

When Afghanistan can reliably defend itself from threats. But you're actually asking what the US is going to do with President Bonespurs in charge? You know the answer. Nothing.

and when is that? we've been training ANA for a good....ten years now and nothing to show for it.
again, all I ask is what is the timetable? an indefinity stay just let's the Taliban recruit more and more each year while they keep inflicting more and more casualties on both the US and ANA. the solution stopped being a military one long ago. it's time to come to the bargaining table. preferably after the oraange moron is gone.

What are you going off of that the US is using the Kurds? And no one is talking about sitting in the region for an indefinite amount of time but even if it came to that, the other option would be leaving the Kurds to defend for themselves which is much worse than US "using" them, in your own words.

Yes, Trump is a moron but quite frankly his reasoning is irrelevant. Deescalating in Syria is one of the very very few good things he's done as President. Let's not turn the Democrats into the pro war party just to own Trump.

Yes Kurds being genocided by Turkey is deescalating the situation.

I think we all knew the reason Trump wanted to pull out of Syria so badly that he made a quick decision without informing the necessary people, is because it's what Russia wanted. Russia is basically just trolling now, they got what they wanted and they want the world to know.

Oh gosh let's find some radical Islamist's to fund and ensure that Russia gets bogged down in a quagmire again! Nothing wrong with this plan!
