Is that footage really of the war in Ukraine? Like those jets flying over and everything?

It's all doctored footage of a hypothetical Russian assault on Paris.

'You're all OK standing by watching Russia attack Kyiv, if it was a different European capital this would be a very different story, give us planes please'.

This aside, it does look like Russia today has taken, again, significant armored losses, similar to rates seen the last several days. We can assume that casualties are also increasing at similar rate as well.

A crazy part of all this with the success of the TB-2, Ukraine may have more successful tactical airstrikes then Russia has had. Possibly by a good margin.

But it seems like Sumy and Chernihiv are encircled and their siege (ala Mariupol) will start soon. Situation is still very bad and I hope Ukrainian reinforcements will come soon. (Not talking about East and South where situation is even worse, but Ukrainians are fighting like lions!)

Some interesting tidbits about the foreign legion in this article (from finnish public service yle, in swedish). Based on interview with (one of) their press representatives who is norwegian.

"52 nationalities"

"most are from the baltic countries and central europe"

"20% from 4 nordic countries" (I'm assuming this means 🇸🇪🇫🇮🇳🇴🇩🇰)

"Finland has its own war history with Russia and I know that motivates many of the finnish soldiers. They know russian imperialism doesn't end by itself, but that it has to be stopped."

Yeah I've interviews from volunteers in Nordic/Eastern Europe saying if Putin isn't stopped here, he would go after their country next. Heroes all

I get that Tucker ruffles a lot of feathers, but wouldn't it be be better to move the discussion to a separate thread, considered the volume of Tucker discussion on the last two pages.

It's honestly likely something as simple as there is always money to be made in being a vocal contrarian even if you're spouting nonsense.

Yup. People who know Tucker have said it's just a game to him and he is playing a character and think this is all just a blast. Why wouldn't he, he's rich as hell from arich as hell family.

Our uni, University of Eastern Finland also has a spot for at least 20 students from Ukraine. Our faculty staff also helped one sociology professor escape Kharkiv and she is now here in Joensuu. Our faculty is a research institute pretty much focused on Eastern Europe so there is a lot we can do for the people there.

Quite many Finns in social media have said that every tank destroyed by Finnish anti-tank weapons in Ukraine is one less tank we have to deal in our border. From what I have heard some of the Russian regiments that are normally placed near the Finnish border have taken a beating in Ukraine.

UA reporting that Volnovakha has been largely levelled, with most of the residents already evacuated.

If there was a move to push the occupiers back in that region, that would be good; however, as long as they can fire on the road from Mariupol to the north, the city will remain functionally besieged.
Yeah depends if they broke a line where the Russian rear is exposed and they need to move artillery on that road. Have to watch more for news but supposedly even pro Russian telegram users are mentioning Ukraine made some sort of successful attack in the region.

FYI, prohibiting hucksters like Tucker Carlson from spreading blatant lies and rhetoric... poisoning the minds of millions of Americans who believe him wholeheartedly because his takes are legitimized as "news"... would NOT result in the United States ending up like Russia.

Russia actively blocks factual reporting that doesn't ascribe to the Kremlin's worldview. Blocking Tucker Carlson is NOT that. That you're conflating the two as the same is somewhat troubling.
I'm simply playing devil's advocate but I think we'd be going down a very dangerous road when we allow the state to moderate who can and can't have a voice. It's not where it begins but where it ends. Especially when you may well have Donald "fake news folks" Trump back in the game in 2024.

FOX should obviously be making better decisions about who they give a platform to though.

So, this thread isn't about Tucker but about the situation on the ground in Ukraine. If you'd like to talk about Tucker's bullshit, please make a new thread. We shouldn't let this thread get bogged down with his nonsense when there's already so much going on.

I'm monitoring official sources, not seeing any confirmations either. Hopefully we get an update in the HQ midnight brief in 2.5 hours.

I mean, have you seen some of the bullshit self-described "Socialists" have posted in this very forum?
That's why I mentioned horseshoe theory. Without a doubt there are plenty of bad actors all around.

Typically we have just pointed out blatant propaganda within the thread so at what point is it not appropriate? Not sure it is threadworthy either and we don't have a propaganda OT but certainly seems worth it to recognize this issue.

I got no problems with people talking about it in here, but it's getting to the point where it risks drowning other stuff out. Him being an asshole is also newsworthy enough to warrant it's own thread.

This would be huge if true

I really hope it's true and that they manage to open up a corridor or even partially lift the siege. It would likely be a BIG turning point in Ukraine's favor.

Because it sadly won't be easy with the metric fuckton of artillery Russia has across their border and I assume they have similarly strong static anti-air defences there as they do on Crimea, so there won't be much air support for the Ukrainians either (except maybe the odd Bayraktar strike because the Russians seem to have massive problems defending against them).

It is a feedback loop. Q-anon types have been banging on about Pro-Putin conspiracies, including the biolabs since before the war started. The disinfo gets injected at various times, often during notable events to make the info seem relevant, as they know the adherents will be hungry for the "truth". He reiterates, they get confirmation bias, and it just gets more and more twisted over time. No one bats an eye because he is telling them exactly what they already think. I do think there is some connections, but I do not know what kind of structure that is. There are clips of Alex Jones from last year warning that war was coming Feb 2022. Jones has also been pro-Kremlin even though he has pushed back on certain aspects of Qanon tenants. The religious right (evangelicals) has defected at this point as well. Certainly there is a vast web of disinfo with 15% of Americans buying a majority of it. Even more hold portions of it. Millions and millions of adult men and women. So the messaging is popular enough to carve out a profitable grift. It is more dangerous and prevalent rhetoric than most people admit.

Ukraine has managed to bring together more Americans than any issue I can recall. Anti-Ukrainian sentiment is very unpopular but likely held by 10-15%

There are really great disinfo reseachers out there who study this stuff. Here are some plots showing when the disinfo was seeded.

Yeah, it's just a bummer that the number of Kool-aid drinkers is even that high. And that the cable news channel of choice for Republicans platforms someone so prominently for them.

Looking at videos from Mariupol, Russia is really going for the Grozny/Aleppo approach there. A russian speaking city with almost half the population being ethnic Russians. And they expected to install a puppet government after this. Generations of Ukranians are going to remember what Russians did after the war.

Ukraine being strong enough to break the siege of Mariupol would be huge if true.

Hopefully those relief forces don't get surrounded themselves.
