it feels like the first wave who were tricked into going into Ukraine were just kids essentially, always forget how young soldiers tend to be.

Another fucked up thing in the laundry list of fucked up things Russia is doing.

Though, I'm pretty sure the ICRC considers these interviews and video of PoWs against the Genova Conventions.

Let's keep in mind that "western officials" could mean literally any country that has zero information. If they said US or UK I'd be marginally more inclined to believe it. But western officials could be, like, Montenegro

Why do people do this? What's more likely, NBC has sources in UK/France with real information or Montenegro with no information

Even if they somehow manged take over Ukraine, how in the fuck does Russia expect to HOLD Ukraine, where there would be maybe twenty Russians, at most, per one thousand Ukrainians in order hold the country (and that's if every single person in the Russian military was there), meaning that they wouldn't be able to hold shit for longer than a couple minutes.
It's not sustainable.

He'll control regions most likely, for him a democratically broken Ukraine is still a win even if he can't occupy the whole country. He just didn't want it to join NATO and unless someone stops him we're likely looking at a broken up country with no functioning central government

And urban warfare in Kyiv hasn't even started.

Honestly, just imagine what these numbers are going to look like if Russia succeeds in taking Kyiv.

No way the Ukranian people are just going to stop fighting. It's already awful and going to be far, far worse by the time this ordeal is done. Which, one way or the other, ends with Russia leaving in defeat.

Has private or public officials offering bounties for assassins of leaders ever in recoded history actually worked?

It always comes across as just theatrics to me

If you count Yurovsky getting a fat Moscow City Cheka promotion from Lenin for the killing of Nicholas II, yeah. Don't know if that counts as a bounty though.

Which is weird, because they would be very vulnerable to MANPADs. UA isn't going to be shooting S300s at these things.

You can't "suppress" MANPADs unless you clear the entire area of enemy infantry.

Plus they'll have infantry on the ground well in advance of any advanced as system who would act as spotters. There's quite a difference between this and... Well, anything modern.

Only thing I can think of is they're used for paratroop training, so they could try small drops of specialised troops to harass and target specific places.

The crazy thing is the more they push into ukraine the more exposed they will be for ambushes and supply raids which will only increase losses for isolated forces out of supply.

Okay so NBC senior reporter is using Montenegro with zero information

There are many countries in Europe. Not all receive the same information, even if they're in NATO.

You following up with a source, or just tales from your ass?

I admit I am absolutely skeptical to a fault, especially after Afghanistan. But fog of war and all that - obtaining numbers is hard.

The Pentagon just had a briefing 30 mins ago, where most of these comments are coming from. It's not a mystery.

The Pentagon briefing said almost 6000? Then I retract my statements.

I mean Iran still abstained.
Strangely, Mahmoud A. was critical of the Iranian government during the protests a few years ago and now they won't let him run for office anymore, so he's definitely not speaking for the country's current government.

Russia Appears To Be Preparing Its Ancient An-2 Biplanes For War In Ukraine

A large number of the distinctive Cold War-era utility planes have appeared at an airfield close to the Ukrainian border.

this looks like the kinda shit they should have been doing a week or two prior to invading…

Probably used them as cannon fodder to gauge Ukrainian defence capabilities.
Since WWI, there have been many technological advances to help determine how strong your enemy is, before you have to send an 18 year old kid charging the enemy lines to see where he gets shot from.

But since Russia seems to be fighting this war like the last 100 years haven't happened…

Still amazing some people still try to prop up the Chechens as some elite force. The majority of their combat experience seems to be low level counter insurgency against their own people. It's not like any ones embedded with Russian "mercenaries" have exactly proven themselves either with getting either bombed by the US in Syria or driven out of the west in Libya.
