Yeah, the challenge felt weird this week. Not just from a conceptual level, but the lack of a live audience, music, or any editing flourishes made the episode feel like a rough cut.

Yeah this really struck me too, the challenge being completely directed by the contestants and how it was just them sitting at a table at the end of runway was so strange to watch lol

As a viewer, I'll base who I want to leave on the amount of entertainment, or lack thereof, they bring to the show. Scarlet brought so much entertainment in my opinion to this season, even before it started. Kylie is blah and Jan is so exhausting to watch.

It's actually uncomfortable to watch Jan struggle so much to understand the change everyone wants from her. It's unfair to ask someone to be less than themselves. The T is that everyone finds her annoying and exhausting to be around all the time. That's the hard and sad truth. Telling her to be "real" when this is her real self is so unhelpful and downright demoralizing.

Jan should have gone home. I still cannot stand her. Her fake ass "this is just how I am!!!" is SUCH theatre kid energy that it is legit making me mad. Source: former theatre kid with friends who were like this. It is NOT how you "really are" and you know it.

I've never met a person who is 100% upbeat at all times. I refuse to believe Jan and it just irritated me to see her crying over it instead of taking the critiques to heart to develop more nuance in her character. I will be glad to see her go and not see her again.

I did not think it was Scarlet's time, but I also don't think she had a shot at winning so I'm not too bent out of shape about it.

I just it's sad every time she mentions "when I was on my season I was this and that and now I changed." Bitch, you're pretty much the same, and that's okay. Just be aware and honest about it.

Is there anyone here "in the know" who can tell us which episode we're finally going to find out what this bloody game within a game is?

The challenge was kinda weird. Getting the queens in drag to "act natural" doesn't make sense, and people like Pandora and Sonique were definitely uncomfortable about opening up. Vulnerability is a meme in the show at this point, but this was a weird way of getting it.

Still, Ginger Minj did that! Even though the challenge felt off she was great, especially because she carried the other two without missing a beat. Also, excellent lip sync, and the bit with Bianca was hilarious.

Btw, LOL:

I was actually talking about this with a friend when they mentioned Fergie not having any iconic moves, haha.

I'm surprised at the backlash against the judging, I pretty much agreed with everything said. Ginger wasn't part of the winning team, but she basically carried her team big time. I thought she was the strongest moderator. Also she gave an amazing lipsync, and they definitely pick a winner based on the lipsync they have planned out. Apart from that, I was sad to see Scarlett go, I thought she had a lot more to give, especially in comparison to Jan , who has given it all as it's all a bit samey.
Yeah, I agreed with everything this time too.

I'm surprised to see so much discomfort with the challenge. I thought it was very respectfully done and it tested speaking and interview skills, two things the queens actually use a lot.

And it's not like they spent the whole episode in tears. Rajah was the only queen who got emotional, and the winner and winning team just had a good kiki.

Am I high or did Rajah do a good job in the challenge? I thought Ross and Michelle had an idea of what they wanted and wouldn't budge from that, but I really liked Rajah's voice and characterisation, it was funny.

A'keria's runway gave me VERY La Camilla from Army of Lovers vibes, the silhouette, headpiece was very her.

Great lipsync, so fun to see Manilla again, and the worst queen in the challenge rightly (but sadly) went home and the other bottom queen shouldn't have been there imo.

Was pretty bummed when it became clear that Jan was going to survive this week.

I hate feeling like I'm feeding into online negativity against certain queens, but Jan is aggressively irritating and she's basically the one thing about this season that I'm not enjoying.

Kylie murdered that lip sync.

I'm finding it really hard to engage with this series for some reason. It may be drag race burn out, or it may be the heatwave, but I found myself barely paying attention to this latest episode. All the queens are fine, I just really don't care who progresses and who doesn't. They all seem a bit bland. Even Eureka, who I hated in her previous appearances.

That challenge was rough. I ended up skipping the last third or so and just moving directly to the critiques.

I will never like scripted acting challenges in Drag Race, give me dancing/improv/sewing challenges.

The runway was so good, everyone did a great job, even Ginger.

It is great to see Kylie shine, she has been kinda meh this season, that bad bitch from the promo and MTQ.

Why did they invite Manila to lipsync to Dirty? They did her dirty.

Has Manila ever really been considered a lip sync assassin? Manila is a legend, but I don't think of her when I think of lip sync assassins. She serves face, but she doesn't really command the stage or bring in a lot of physicality the way the true LSAs do.

To me, Manila will always be one of the first jaw dropping lip syncs the show's ever seen. When she pulled out those iconic dramatic eyes for MacArthur Park??? EVERYTHING. Which has been a problem for several of the lip syncs, imo. If you're going to bring out a past queen as an honored lip sync assassin, let them do a song that shows off their stuff. Manila's style is drama, that's not "Dirrty."

Dirrty IS Sonique though. And whew did she remind y'all that she is THE GURL who FIRST brought gymnastics to the Drag Race. She DID that!

Fair enough! It's been a minute since I've watched the early seasons.

There's basically no drama this season. Everyone just gets along, and while it's refreshing in some ways, it doesn't exactly make for the most riveting television. They cast some previous shit-stirrers hoping they'd stir shit again, and basically nobody has.

Also the challenges are blah.

But I'm mainly enjoying myself. It's a surprisingly chill season of Drag Race.

Yeah I'm not missing the drama. UK2 had barely any and it was all the better for it. It's just they're all.... fine? But not spectacular, if that makes sense? No one really seems to be sticking their head out in front, even if it's just for one week. They all seem very same.

Apart from Jan, who I wanted to do well initially, and I want to like, but who has become very irritating.

Drama is a quick and easy way to get engagement when you don't have anything else. Low drama = everything else is more compelling

I think they opted for a more subtle kind of drama this season, and that is not having a clear frontrunner. It's anyone's game so far, not a single person has won two challenges and it's made the season a lot more entertaining.

Today's challenge was a boot, these acting challenges are always awful. But I think Kylie deserved the win, and I'm happy to see it. Poor Manila didn't stand a chance with that lipsync lmao

Holy fuck the finished recording of this challenge is like 15 minutes long. Read the room, Drag Race. How are they so many seasons in, with the money they make, and still unable to generate scripts for these that are half decent

I did the same. First dud episode of the season. That lip sync was a bit dry tho gotta say. Not mad at who went home, assuming it's not all scripted.
Still a great season with one bad episode so far,

The acting challenges conitnue to be awful. They should have just let the queens do the writing like they did with commercials.

Bit of a bore of an episode. I know not all can be good but the entire set up and concept of the acting challenge was just uninteresting, and sorry, Kylie, Ginger would have absolutely killed that role.

Also: we doing a Snatch game or what? It's a standard and usually done by mid-season.

Ten minutes into the episode and Pandora is getting more screentime than she had gotten the entire season so far, that's either really good news for her or really bad but she definitely won't be save this week.

Edit:
It's not like we didn't know it before but the producers are really cruel, making Pandora think she's out and Jan she's save only to have Alexis do the "But wait!" thing is just mean. They could have had Alexis announce it's a tie right away. And Ru can fuck off with the fake "OMG, really?!" reaction, as if she doesn't know exactly how the voting went and whose lipsticks the queen's are carrying.🙄

Most expensive wig-flip ever? It cost her ten grand!

I was actually gagged at the lipstick reveal, I think this elimination will go down in DR elimination history because of that, not really who was eliminated. Jan being delusional at the queens because they voted her off "because she's a threat" and not because it was her third time in the bottom and her "I want to see more of me" was pure Jan! lol

This made up for last weeks episode. TKB absolutely killed this episode and it was just all around entertaining.

I feel bad that Jan's efforts aren't giving rewards, but just doesn't listen. She really needs to work on bringing out new sides of herself. When your colleagues are complaining about your behavior that should be a signal to re examine yourself

But in this episode Trinity told Jan to stay at 110 and never come down so she is clearly receiving mixed messages. And while Eureka for example often appeared to be annoyed by Jan she ended up voting for Pandora, so I'm assuming the editors are playing up how annoyed the others really are. If it was that bad there wouldn't have been a tie this week, the group vote was also a tie two weeks ago when Scarlet left.

And when the judges say they want to see "the real Jan" or "vulnerability" what they really mean is "give us trauma so Ru can do a three minute therapy session during tic tac lunch", if Jan had cried at 110% about being kicked out by her parents after coming out or whatever Ru would have been all over that.

Being her chipper 110% self also worked well for Jan in season 12, not so much in the competition but she was popular with the fans so why would she suddenly tone it down?

Jan's fellow AS6 girls have said a lot about her at viewing parties, so I don't think it's just editing magic at play. She has this hyper go getter attitude that comes off as desperate rather than confident. Sometimes it works for her, as we saw in half time show and Coven girl. Other times it's uncomfortable because she's just trying so hard to the point that she doesn't really hear what people are telling her and that's where the insincerity comes remark come from.

As for the trauma porn, I just think that's a ridiculous take. Many a Queen has won who didn't have a sad backstory, and plenty of queens who did have sad circumstances went home early. Blair talked about her rape on the main stage and that didn't save her from elimination.

I adore Drag Race, but my absolute least favourite part of the show are the challenges where they have to write their own lyrics. I just find them all absolute banal shite, so unfortunately I did find myself looking more at my phone during the opening half of this episode.

Thank god it's Snatch Game next week.

Also wanted to mention how awful Eureka's runway look was.

Also, not a fan of them bringing back people from All Stars 5 to be assassins.

First half of the episode was meh and the production of the song live was boring/lame/bad.

Runways, including Ru's, were all wonderful. Very good Lipsynch, fun ending drama. Episode redeems itself.

My fave episode so far. Loved the challenge, the runways, the lip synch (Rajas reaction ), the lipstick drama. Hit every gay bone in my body.
