Was it canceled because they're concerned about the virus, or from too many people pulling out?

The meltdown posts when it was confirmed Sony wasn't going to be there are getting more and more hilarious by the day.
But it's also scary how in a month or 2 how much everything can change.

E3 not even happening in the end this year for a reason not even related to videogames was unthinkable a few months ago.

Devolver being the company to ring the death knell is perhaps the most fitting end to E3, if this is true

Did Arrogant Sony convince E3 people to cancel the whole thing? Wow they have so much leverage!! Wonder what Sony wants to really hide!? PS5 development must be in danger!!

Just crazy and very premature. Virus is already slowing down in China. Still have 3 months. Could've made a decision in late April early May.

It's slowing down in China because the entire country has been in lockdown since January. Other countries have bumbling leadership that prioritize fudging numbers over saving lives, so you'll see significantly more cases in the months to come.

Just because it's slowing down in China doesn't mean it's not about to go nuclear in Europe and the US.
People been saying that since it started in January. Nobody knows how it will be even a month from now.
They have three months still.
It slowing down in china but you seeing more and more cases all over the world .
yes like many have speculated since January when it was blowing up in China. China got it under control and its yet to be seen if it will be as bad elsewhere like it is in China.

Everyone will do online stuff and then they'll figure out that they don't need E3 anymore.

What a time to be alive.

Good. Public health is more important than video games.

Though if companies do an alternative (like streaming) and find they don't lose out too much on the media blitz that surrounds E3, this may be the death knell for it.

Every pub about to see how much cheaper and less stressful on employees it is to do a digital event.

And for this year, definitely safer.

We'll probably still get Nintendo E3 Direct but we're definitely losing Treehouse segment.

Heads-up, I just heard from several people I know within the industry E3 cancellation was officially emailed out to a lot of developers/publishers. The official announcement should be in the next 24 hours.

But if there was any doubt, it seems to be real.
Welp, it's the end of an era.

They'll blame it on coronavirus but the writing was on the wall a long time before that.

ugh. i'm glad I got to experience it once, I guess. even as someone whose data they leaked, who was directly affected by their incompetence last year, I really enjoyed the experience and was looking forward to this year. oh well...

This is going to hurt E3 a lot. There is no better time to have an event like E3 than next gen launches and it's being cancelled.

Good move.

Wrestlemania still going strong though in a few weeks BROTHER. I hope Tampa forces them to.

We'll probably still get Nintendo E3 Direct but we're definitely losing Treehouse segment.
I don't see why they can't have the treehouse crew and the devs still get together, only thing that gets lost there is the crowd in the background.

The E3 shows are some of Giant Bomb's best content, so what are they going to do instead?

No...
What a bad year it's been for events everywhere. It was already bad enough it was only going to be open to the public for 2 days. And now this.
Ugh, just end 2020 already and let's start over with 2021.

??
Is this because of public health concerns or because E3 has been dying for years?

Genuine question

Holy shit. This is wild imo

Personally, I've attended 8 consecutive E3's but skipped out on last year. This event being cancelled is a big deal and will be missed. Not saying it's gone forever but, we'll see.

I'm genuinely sad about this. Sure, E3's relevance was questionable in this day and age, but it was still such a cool event.
