is this the same dice management team from BF 3/4?
IIRC, a good number of the DICE management and devs from that era left to form Embark Studios.

I'm going to love it, but this thing is coming in as hot as ever, the classic for modern setting BF titles
If it's too raw at launch I'll have to put it off for Halo for a bit until it's stable, but I got through 3 and 4 at launch so who knows

I'm expecting either a massive day 1 patch or another delay. Another delay seems near 0% chance at this point so massive day 1 patch seems realistic. The question is if that massive day 1 patch will make it in time for early access users or when the game opens up to all.

This was taken from the EA Forums, I personally haven't gotten the survey yet, but I wonder if they expected complaints regarding the Specialists and are fielding feedback as leverage to revert it back to the more traditional Battlefield classes.
axhzmwkvjvs71.png

I think they expected some kind of blowback about specialists. But im thinking its bigger than they thought it would be. Absolute trash-tier idea IMO.

I hope Embark are making a proper BF style game and not some hero shooter. I know there's WW3 but that has a free for all class system and vehicle spawn system, just does not work for large scale warfare.

Another delay would be a great call. I think summer of next year would give them plenty of time to rework things and settle on a direction that's more faithful to the rest of the franchise.

I think the bigger takeaway from this (poorly written) article is here:

Alleged Development Problems at DICE

According to both of the sources mentioned, many of the game's problems have stemmed from management, with some management figures coming from 2017's Battlefront II.

Management is allegedly not committed enough to the project, with creative being simply told to do X, Y, and Z. One of these management figures was simply described as a "yes man", and apparently things have "been s*&t since".

Problems brought up to management also fall on deaf ears throughout the development process. Ultimately creating issues that DICE could have solved earlier in the development process.

As for the lack of creativity, management loved some of Modern Warfare 2019's aspects that much, that the studio was supposedly encouraged to create something similar.

Not sure on the reliability of the author, but this does seem like a reasonable cause of some of the issues and changes this game has.

I'm pretty sure they left so that they don't have to keep making BF-style games.
Their second project which is a team-based PVP game is most likely a hero shooter judging by the concepts they posted:

They should've aimed for a September 2022 release with current gen only, not being held back
-medium sized maps with 64 player count
I don't think the map size & player count are the problem; it's that the game is not made for the map & player count. Honestly I wasn't even fond of BF3 from a BF2 vet (yes I'm one of them types :V). Orbital is kinda like a BF2 map but with a gameplay core that is very close to MW 2019 Ground War, meshes poorly.

As always, the new Battlefield game is getting released in a semi-janky state (that beta was ROUGH). I was super excited to get into this, but I think I'll be just fine waiting for Halo and coming back to this game in 6 months to a year. I'm sure they will iron out the kinks over a little time.

As someone who has not enjoyed BF since BF2, I hope they delay it.
I prefer Halo and CoD but still don't want BF to crash again after V.

There is way too much focus on the age of the build.

The beta had many bad things that were fully working as intended

I enjoyed it the more I played (pc). Put in about 10 hours, actually.

Some beta complaints are more broadly applicable to BF in general ("map is big" "map is empty" "I kept getting killed from far away"), others were more subjective (I personally didn't have any trouble finding firefights, spawn killing wasn't a problem outside of one cap point).

My main concerns are the specialist system, which kinda seems like it is what it is and we'll have to see how it plays out. I'm not sure it is the answer to BF's evolution, but I'm gonna guess they won't significantly alter it from beta to final.

There were obviously a lot of bugs and glitches. Actually, other than the specialist system, it's still shocking how much DICE forgets from their last game(s) and has to reinvent or recreate old mechanical. Lack of a compass, lack of heading indicators in vehicles (this makes pilot/gunner coordination a nightmare), lack of capture area indicators, loss of a lot of BFV's movement improvements...I mean, I'm not surprised because DICE does this all the time, but it's incredibly annoying.

I still think it scratches the BF itch but will wait to see how things pan out before buying.

Way to take Tom completely out of context with that title:

Just because the build is compiled on that day, doesn't mean that it incorporates all of the latest developments.
Especially for an open beta that needs to be stabilized and have content removed before they release it publicly.

Good job confirming you didn't read the article. From the article:
However, shortly after my mathematic wizardry, my DICE associate claimed that the beta build wasn't actually months old at all. The source stated that the Beta build is from early-mid September, but couldn't give an accurate date.

A second source would later back up this information, who had revealed the Battlefield 2042 delay plans and new Beta release dates to me in mid-September.

Honestly this game has looked shady ever since the beginning with the way they've cut their trailers. You never got more than the briefest look at gameplay before it would cut. But I'm still down for the full release because I'm a sucker…

Lol

Ur getting ur big scale mess with 2042, let the next battlefield be for us guys

By being bought up MS and take away what makes BF a BF game? No rocket launchers but still have vehicles and choppers... sure dude...

And no planes? Something that has been in there since the beginning?

Also, fun thing, last gen consoles have 64 players max, so there's that.

yeeeesh

man Im glad I put in for my preorder refund on Xbox, sorry to all the hard working people at DICE

Would kinda agree but I suspect a lot of DICE developers just want this game out. I mean a next-gen only September 2022 date would've made this whole thing smoother but I fear that DICE Management & EA really fear MWII.

Lol

Problem is the franchise BC2-Bf1 was heavily focused on your wishlist partially. They have been trying to appease everyone.

Battlefield needs to go the Forza route but I dobut EA will do that since it has a similar UK HMG Treasury mindset (minimum commitment to actually go sustain anything).

This does not mean anything. It does not matter in the slightest when the build was built. They could've built this beta in September for the original beta date based on code from god knows how many months ago.

Edit: And I see, the actual article even says that. The title of this thread is very dishonest.

Beta was 100% phoned in. They're no doubt in crunch time getting ready to ship in November, but had already made the commitment for having a beta so slap dashed an old build together and put it out there. had lots of complaints but still played for 10+ hours and was having fun for most of it so 🤷‍♂️

This is the most likely scenario

I really like 128 players, at least on a map like Orbital. Only occasionally found myself with no choice but to run a long way to the next hotspot, and there were regular firefights with 20-30 players in one spot.

It worked here because of how open the map is--i wonder what the smaller maps will be like.

I'm really hoping to be surprised on release date and it turns out to be an incredible game.

But with Halo releasing a couple weeks after this, I won't be too heartbroken if 2042 ends up being a trainwreck.

If it turns out this game is not good because once again they were chasing CoD with MW2019, I'm gonna flip a table. There was a time when Battlefield was confident doing its own thing

Orbital is like the smallest of the "medium" sized maps and 3rd smallest map overall, since there's about 40 vehicles overall on a map I kinda dread how Breakaway & Hourglass will play due to vehicles per player will be relatively low.

I will because it'd be a huge missed opportunity for the franchise. God I wish BF took the Halo Infinite route of getting it right, or BF1 or BFV did.

They tried that with a rushed BFV and many content creators and competitive dorito bros hated the direction. I mean BFV was IMV the last "doing its own thing" for a long time and many people with vocal platforms dunked on it. Social Media & BF don't mesh well.

Don't forget there's the Gold and Ultimate editions that get to play this one week early on the 12th. That would be a full month to Halo and a week from COD release

I wouldn't say always, BF3-4 and 1 to V. 3 was rough as but at least they built on it.

They are a really odd studio sometimes but I'm not a dev so maybe it works for them to make broader strokes in new games. It's just really frustrating because they are super talented.

It doesn't play like MW2019 at all in its current state. I have an embarrassing number of hours put into Warzone and a win count well over 100 at the time of uninstallation ... and it's still more Battlefield than COD. Markedly so, too. I was relieved when it wasn't handling like MW2019 during the Beta.

You're misrepresenting what he said. Sure, the actual build may be from mid to early september but it does not mean what you're implying it does with the thread title. This does not mean that this is the state the game was in in september.

Everyone that just reads the title and not the actual article is going to have the wrong impression, as you can see by most of the posts in here already.

The game sure feels like it has identity crisis. They want it to be apex, cod and battlefield at the same time. It just doesnt work, meanwhile they are destroying almost everything that made battlefield unique. Removing the class system was the biggest mistake
