Thinking of picking up this monitor to go with
3080:

LG UltraGear 27" 4K 144hz IPS 1ms HDR600.

Are a higher percent of games expected to use DLSS to reach 4K next year?

If I can't run a multiplayer game at 4K 144, does running it at 1440p make it look much worse than a native 1440 panel? I've read it won't look as good as native but also read that most people won't notice it.

If the game supports a separate rendering scale from what resolution is running, that will give a better result than setting the game to 1440p. Plus you'd get a native UI for the game, and the game itself would just be softer.

Also, with GSync, you have the advantage of games that won't run at 4k144 will just run at whatever framerate they can. So the competitive stuff where 144hz matters, you can lower the resolution/scale, and then where it doesn't, let it do its thing at 4k.

I have a 3080 in my new pc and went with an ultrawide 3440x1440 160Hz (the LG 34GN850). No regrets.

I wanna buy a new monitor before CP2077 drops so badly but it seems like the new hotness with hdmi2.1 and good HDR is right around the corner

I've seen so many posts advocating for ultra wide, but how is the game support? Do most modern games support it?

Yep, pretty much every modern game (aside from some indie games) supports it. A lot of the time cinematics will only be 16:9 with black bars on the side, but I haven't found that distracting. Actual gameplay and UI is all fully supported though, at least in the games I've tried.

I found it a bit strange for the first few times I used it, not being used to so much screen real estate, but I love it now, and going back to a game in 16:9 feels strange. It definitely adds to the immersion, plus the extra visibility can help your gameplay in some genres (RTS, 2D Platformers, Rocket League, etc).

Planning to stick with 1440p144 if/when I get a 3080, I want to drink from the performance fire hose.

If you're maxing out at 1440p, the 3080 is *overkill*. Higher refresh rates hinge more on your CPU, not GPU, so your budget would be better split up with a 3070 (or, quite frankly, a 2070 Super) and that much more $ in your CPU, RAM, and an NVMe 4.0-compatible mobo.

1440p 144hz, LG GL850 or LG GL83A-B. That's the way to go. 1440p on 4k won't look great (1080p on 4k will look better.)

1440p on 4K screens looks quite a bit better than 1080p does in my experience. Way less jaggies, way cleaner lines. You must've tried on a really bad screen.

3080 is a 4K card, as is 3090 is a 8K card.
i dont understand how people refer to the 3090 as an 8k card the difference between its performance and the 3080's performances is about %10, i mmean yeah it has 24gb of vram but still, performance wise it isnt even close to being an 8k card.

Im literally using that setup, a 3080 and the 27GN950 and I love it.

Reaching 144hrz at 4k will depend on the game and since it is gsync is buttery smooth. Do not get a 1440p monitor if you intend to use a 3080, is not worth it.

I have the LG 27GL850-B. Best monitor I've had. When I got my 2080 ti I originally went with the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ 27 at one point, but no regrets going with 1440p144fps over 4k60fps. When I upgrade to a 4K 120/144 monitor, going to try to stick with LG since they won me over from ASUS.

This. I'm planning on rocking a 2k 144hz setup myself in the future, but I know I'll have to upgrade my CPU to go along with it (Zen 3).

I've got a 3080 on 1440p/144Hz and it's not overkill. I'm looking at 85-100 fps maxed out on most demanding games right now and it's great, but 120+ would be even better. 8700K processor for reference, which could be better, but I'm not exactly losing the 20 fps I want because of it.

I haven't been able to get a 3080 yet, but I'll be building a new PC when 3080's become available again. I love ultrawide and would truly recommend a 1440p ultrawide - so much so I couldn't go back to a 16:9 monitor now.

I personally use a PG35VQ - excellent HDR performance too.

IMO 4K in 27" is a waste and overkill and I'd go with 1440p with higher framerate personally.
4K start to make sense above 30" in a monitor.

This may be true now but can easily change in a month after next gen launch. So unless you're getting yourself a monitor for one month I'd be a bit more forward looking with this purchase.

Yeah, 3090 struggles to do 60fps+ at 8k with certain modern games.

This really isn't true. You need a very powerful graphics card to reach 144fps in modern games at max settings. 3080 fits the bill perfectly, particularly if you're interested in ray tracing.

As always has been the case, gpu is the most impactful upgrade you can make and should be where the vast majority of your budget goes. Yes you need to have a high end CPU to pair with it, but to call 3080 overkill for 1440/144 is imo off base.

I have an Ultrawide 3440x1440/144hz Monitor and a 3080 on the way.
I've been running 1080p 144hz for a while.
Can't wait to behold the transformation.

If you don't buy an ultrawide 3440x1440 at 144hz+ you're doing it wrong. This is the way to go right now.

While 3440x1440 isn't as 'big' as 4k ( 3840x2160 ), you'll still reap benefits - games will for sure run at 60fps no problem. I'm kinda debating switching to a 4k monitor, but the ultrawide screen real-estate is super nice.. And the resolution is definitely good.

Seems to be a lot of ultrawide recommendations, 3440x1440 at 144hz may seem to be ideal for lots of people.

Ampere supports integer scaling, so a 1080P resolution on a 4K screen will look like native 1080P rather than upscaled 1080P.

Something to consider, plus if you want to get a console then 4K is going to help. Because I doubt PS5 will support 1440P, though the Series X will.

1440p @ 144Hz is the way to go. Driving a 4K monitor just isn't worth the performance cost, performance that can instead be used to drive games at 1440p to high framerates.

Not sure why this forum has a hard on for ultrawide. Not all games support it truly. Personally would go a decent 1440p/144hz with a 3080, that should be ok I think going into next gen games.

1440p or ultrawide 1440p.

Max settings youll be hitting 144fps more often for a good portion of the generation.
4K144Hz the 3080 already cant do that without dropping settings or DLSS.....and you think itll keep up in a year or 2?

Would this be a decent option with a 3080?

I've been using a 4k Samsung 43" HDTV for the past 5 years as my monitor and it's time to upgrade but it really doesn't seem like they make smaller 4K TV's anymore. I almost got this but I'm not sure it would be a big enough upgrade over my 5 year old TV to justify the cost.

Gonna have to hard disagree here. I have a 3080 + 1440p/144Hz display and most modern AAA stuff still struggles to reach 144 fps at max settings, and that's today. I've been often locking framerate to 120 or 90 just to avoid dips. I'll probably keep the card for 4 years so still very much a worthy investment.

For games that do support it, it's pretty awesome. Unfortunately, those displays become super awkward for games that don't though, so I have to agree.

For the 1st one you linked I would say yes.

I went 1440p 165HZ with my 3080.

Dell S2721DGF and i couldn't be happier. If i want to play in 4k I will just hook up to my LG B7.
