I have my gripes with Dragon Age, but I would probably still rather play any of those games over Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest is just boring to me. The stories and gameplay to me are just so cookie cutter and uninteresting.

Eaaaaaaasily prefer Dragon Age. Dragon Quest VIII is still the only DQ I can stand, and even that is duller than DA: Origins.

I've only played about 30 minutes of Dragon Age Inquisition, so not the fairest of comparisons... but yeah, Dragon Quest for me. Across the board, I think DQ is significantly better than a lot of people give it credit for... writing, gameplay, etc. are only dull on the surface.

I am interested in taking a crack at Dragon Age Origins at some point though, since I love Final Fantasy XII's gambit system.

Dragon Age 1 was ok, DA 2 was bad and DA3 was mediocre at best.
The Dragon Quest saga wins the contest by having an episode that is at least good, pick any of them.

Dragon Quest ist S-Tier JRPG
Dragon Age is B-Tier cRPG - the first game is the only "great" one and even in that subgenre there are much better games like Pillars of Eternity and Baldur's Gate.

So, easy choice.

Dragon Age. Origins is an amazing game, while II and Inquisition are rather mediocre.

But as I've only played DQ VIII and XI and found both also mediocre (and really boring), I will vote for the series that has a game I really like.

I love my JRPGs but my loyalty to is to WRPGs these days, gotta say.

Dragon Quest is amazing but I prefer the lore and choices of the DA series.

Dragon Age. I wish I liked Dragon Quest but it's gotten so boring as time has passed.

Dragon Age.

To be fair, while I know it's a much enjoyed franchise I've never played Dragon Quest, and I wouldn't be surprised if I ever did. I'm generally not a fan of JRPGs.

This is just asking "do you prefer WRPGs or JRPGs" but with a cheekier title. Can't fool me, good sir.

Dragon Age. Dragon Quest is a great series, but Dragon Age: Origins is an absolute masterpiece and DA:I is excellent too.

I felt like Dragon Age as a whole has been overrated from the start. Even the first one, as good as it was, wasn't nearly as game changing as people were making it out to be.

Dragon Quest hands down is a better series. The best is better and worst is less worse than DA II.

Dragon Quest by a mile. I do hope they manage to make a decent Dragon Age someday though, despite how generic and cheesy the series is so far.

I'm as big of a weeb as they come, but gotta vote Dragon Age on this one. I thoroughly enjoyed DA1 and, to a lesser extent, 2.

My only foray into DQ, XI S on the Switch, ended after 15 hours once I realized that the game is, basically, a huge bucket of vanilla ice cream. Everything is played completely straight, the combat is not particularly exciting, and nothing is going to really change in the next 80 hours. I also happen to absolutely hate Toriyama's character designs, so there's that.

Dragon Age is one of my favorite gaming franchises so it easy gets my vote plus I have generally always found Dragon Quest games to be very dull.

Dragon Quest all the way.

Have fond memories of DA1 but like Bioware's other big hitter Mass Effect, the sequels never improved on what made the first game worthwhile and went off in a direction I didn't much care for.

I like both, but I'd say I probably have more and fonder memories of Dragon Quest.

I haven't played Dragon Age, but I've played enough similar games to know it isn't really my bag.
Dragon Quest is my grocery bag, sleeping bag, and other-things bag.

Dragon Age.

Dragon Quest has aged poorly for me. I enjoy them, but I also think they're pretty boring. I would honestly take Dragon Age II over most of the Dragon Quest series.

I like em both, but if this boils down to a WRPG vs JRPG, then Western wins easily (imo) for actual player agency (mostly anyway..).

This is almost an insulting question. DQ is one of the most beloved gaming series of all time. Dragon Age is a series with 1 good game. 30% of you is too many of you to be wrong!!!

I voted Dragon Age. I like DQVIII, IX, and XI. However they're so lacking in ambition. Just real cookie cutter stuff. Dragon Age is a real mess sometimes, but I appreciate the attempts to create interesting narratives and world building.

Origins is in my top 10 of all time and I also greatly enjoyed DA2. I also really liked DQ11, which is the first game I ever beat from the series. Voting Dragon Age for the moment, but I'll see how I feel after I beat DQ8.

I have zero interest in dragon age.
I have little interest in bioware games at all tbh. My experience of them is uber-jank. I bore with KOTOR because I was super in to the old EU, but that's about it.

Meanwhile DQV is one of the finest games ever made, and Dragon Warrior/Quest Monsters 1, DQVIII, DQVI & DQIV are all faves of mine too. And I like all the other mainline games to some extent.

It's Dragon Quest for me.

Dragon Age: Origins was by far the most hyped for a video game I've ever been in my life and it lived up to most of my expectations. Dragon Age 2 was a major letdown however, and despite realizing they did the best with the time and resources they had, it was in my opinion a bad video game. Inquisition was a better return to form, but at that point Bioware had become so formulaic it didn't really do anything interesting other than let you import a save state through the Keep instead of having to have a save file containing it all.

Dragon Quest is one of my 3 favorite JRPG series, so there definitely is bias. But 3 of my favorite video games of all time are from this series in V, VIII, and XI. The series is the OG, and while it never truly reinvents the wheel it does the fundamentals so well and is always charming. I seriously disliked playing IX, but I still believe it to be a good video game whereas Dragon Age has a shorter and far more volatile history.

Dragon quest. The NA release of dragon warrior was the first NES game I owned. It's been a great series to follow over the years, one of my most beloved. My faves are 4&5 but I've enjoyed them all.

I dropped Inquisitor (inquisition?) after ten hours, just not my thing at all. Beat the first one at launch, don't really remember it.

it's all a matter of taste but I don't see the two franchises as competitors (or competitive)

I find it amazing that DQ doesn't have 90% of the votes, actually.

I think it's a mixture of real Dragon Age fans and folks who find Dragon Quest especially bland. Both groups certainly exist here, haha.

This is just asking "do you prefer WRPGs or JRPGs" but with a cheekier title. Can't fool me, good sir.

LOL, fair.

How much do you have to hate dragon quest to ask this question?

I <3 it, actually.

Oh yeah, they certainly aren't. This was created totally on a whim when I realized I'm replaying two Dragon (Age/Quest) games at the moment!

This is a really weird comparison, given how different they are. Still, Dragon Age, obviously.

Dragon age origin is still GOAT. Da2 had a good story and inquisition (besides tresspasser) sucked in both areas. DQ5, 8 and 11 were also really good but did not suppress origin for me.

Dragon Age as long as we ignore all the games in the series except origins.

I'd rather have something flawed over something bland anyday. And I'm saying this as someone who vastly prefers JRPGs over WRPGs.

Dragon Age, though it is slightly by default.

Never played a Dragon Quest, and in no real rush to start, considering Sugiyama

I liked DA1, and to a lesser extent the other DA games, but DQ and JRPGs were an important chunk of my childhood videogames.
