Trekkie Girls has hosted an article on the actor's comments at London Comic Con, where he recently broke the news.

"I am pleased that they (CBS) have expressed interest in me. They have reached out to my agent about next season. So I'm looking forward to seeing what it is. As you know I play two characters, primarily the Doctor but also Lewis Zimmerman."

With Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine already on the show's upcoming first season, Picardo would complete the duo of best Voyager characters IMO. Perhaps, given Seven's closeness with The Doctor on the 1994-2001 UPN flagship series, that closeness has continued and it will be his way into the plot next go-around.

Please have them married so that the Seven/Chakotay last-minute romance mess can be canonically slain.

Really the one consistently good part of Voyager. Hopefully we get some DS9 appearances as well.

I feel like the Doctor has been displaced in my head by Mr Woolsey.

I'm on board, but I can't help but think that this show is just going to go for fanservice after fanservice.

This is fantastic! Picardo's a great actor, the Doctor is a super interesting character, and this means they'll actually have to directly address the whole 'sooooo did all those EMHs get their freedom in the end orrrrr...?' question that Voyager left hanging. That whole thing's been bugging me for years.

Oh and it'd be great to see the Doctor and Data interact!

While I love this news, why is DS9 the black sheep of the franchise? Voyager's cast got cameos in the movies, and now in Picard.

Do they just never want to throw DS9 fans a bone?

I hear you but honestly, like... full stop, seeing TNG/DS9/VOY-era characters again has basically been the one huge example of me wanting a fanservice festival all of my adult life.

DS9 is my favorite as well. I want those cameos more than anything. If O'Brien and Worf show up it totally counts, at least. lol

Nice he ended up being the only character I liked out of Voyager, and is up their as one of my favorite characters in Trek period.

Possibly, thought Seven and the Doctor make far and away the most sense to carry over from Voyager given how much of an impact they would have on Starfleet. Seven with her extensive knowledge of the Borg and Delta Quadrant technology, and the Doctor for the evolution of his programming out of necessity over the course of Voyager's journey.

The Doctor is probably my favourite Star trek character next to Data. I'd love this :D
Make the Picard show a big "one last hurrah" for all these characters!

I'm so excited for this series specifically because it actually acknowledges the other shows. Hoping for some DS9 love but the doc and 7 are easily the best parts of voyager so its a good start. Glad to hear this is locked for a second season too
