Old news but good show. I think the setting of two close but separate ice-locked ships could make for a lot of good stories. Also imo the superior Jared Harris show over Chernobyl??

Great mix of incredible performances, great set work/blue screen, atmosphere and a really solid mystery. Loved this season to bits. Second season is real lame though.

It really grabbed me the first half but lost me in the end. It just went a bit mad for too long that I wanted it to end.

I'll also echo how good the book is.

Bonus: if you happen to live in a place that gets nice, cold, and snowy, it's the perfect time to read it now!

OT: I thought the show was a pretty great adaptation. Love the performances and music.

Yes great show, with incredible performances. I love how I went from feeling contempt for Fitzjames to loving him and his relationship with Crozier.

Also echoing how good the book is. Both are great takes with interesting differences from each other.

Rewatched it recently. Expectations on first watch made some things quite jarring. The second watch wasn't coloured by this and actually made it much more enjoyable. Incredible series with some fine performances.

I tried to get into this, made it to fourth episode (I think) and it's just about a
big bear harassing
them? Thought there'd be something more interesting. Should I continue to the end?

Jared Harris is awesome. This show is awesome.

Not exactly. There's a lot that happens I'd continue but your mileage may vary about the conclusion regardless.

If only season 2 was close to being as good

What a misfire of potential that was.

And one thing I want to point out, for those that may not know, the proposed route by Crozier in the clip in the OP, is in fact how Amundsen completed the passage in the early 1900s.

Should I read the book or watch the series first?

I was reading the book as the show aired. They made for great companion pieces because they don't tell the story the same way. I believe the show even uses some of the knowledge we've learned about the expedition since the book came out because they discovered the wrecks for both ships after publication.

Yeah its good. Not as good as the book but still awesome.

And yeah the setting of two ice locked ships is a gold mine of good stories.

I remember being so hyped about this show when the first trailer dropped. What is the best option to watch this in Sweden?

The story is about the human conflicts. The foe that they face is not the centerpiece; it's only there to inspire more chaos and conflict among them.

Subscribe to HBO Nordic for a month.

Agreed. In fact, were it not for the supernatural elements--which, to me, represented the least interesting aspect of the story--I'd rank it as one of the very best limited series I've ever seen. (Show would've been even more effective purely for its survivalist and human drama aspects, IMO.) The quality of the writing, particularly in the first half of the season, is just about second to none.

Echoing all who have said the book is fantastic. The show is pretty solid but doesn't quite compare to how atmospheric and tense the novel is.

It's still bizarre they didn't adapt The Abominable (from the same author) for the second season instead of the original story they went with.

The show is worth a watch if just for the performances. As good as the book is, it doesn't have this cast.

I still haven't watched it because they haven't release the fucker on Blu Ray and it's not in any streaming service in the U.K.

There is a moment of singular beauty in the finale that is remarkable. Loved this show.

Have not bothered with S2.

I'm currently reading it and I agree that it would have made for a great and quite different second season. It's a bit less tense than The Terror, but the characters and setting are excellent.

The Terror first season is one of the best and most fascinating shows I have watched in recent years. Fantastic casting and performances as well. I really don't get how they went from that to the second season we actually got.

As someone who read the book... eh it was ok. I felt a lot of the best parts of the book were handled rather poorly in the show including the big party they threw. They changed that entire event up from the book to the show and lost a lot of what made it so good in the first place.

The show isn't mainly about this if that makes a difference. I had similar thoughts where I thought the show would just be some drama between two ships and was a bit weirded out by what you mention, but it still does mainly end up being about the crews mostly.

Maybe I need to restart with fresh eyes. I dunno - it seems like it would be the perfect show for me but it just didn't grab me. I want to love it!

Love love love this show, it is a must watch just like season 1 of True Detective. I watched it before Chernobyl and Harris's performance was so good that I was instantly hyped for Chernobyl just because he was in it. I haven't watched season 2 yet or read the book, and for what it's worth I liked the supernatural elements, they weren't in your face or overdone but instead just added to the overall creepy atmosphere.

"Like a dream, sir."

Still the show that's stuck with me the most in recent memory. It and the 90s Berserk anime occupy the same space in my brain.

Real shame about season two. George Takei was such a great grab for something so meh.

Season one is a GOAT, though, yeah.

Season 1 is a brilliant show. All the actors are incredible. The blu ray has a honor place in my collection.

I dug the book more but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Harris was a fantastic standout in the pretty decent adaptation.
