To preface, I also play Skyrim on PC which according to my Steam gameplay time is is a tad just under 700 hours give or take, I'd say a good 100 of those hours was spend mucking around in the Nexus Mod Manager, BOSS / LOOT, Mod Organizer, Wrye Bash and so forth. So I also find enjoyment in working within the limits of the Xbox One restrictions and trying to work within those confines to make an ideal setup that cohesively works together, that being said an ideal mod list is highly up to interpretation and personal preference. In my case, my ideal Skyrim experience mainly retains the core but touches on nearly every aspect of the game with a focus on content expansion in the form of more quests and new locations to explore, revised crafting, combat, hunting, and survival.

There is 5120 MB reserved for Skyrim Mods, so my goal was to use as much space as possible but retain a load order consisting of mods that work together well to create a Skyrim experience that has a noticeable impact on where it counts coming close to a PC Skyrim mod feel in terms of gameplay within the confines of the Xbox One file limit without being able to take advantage of SKSE or MCM to utilize.

Mind you this load order could be optimized even further. Any omissions and replacement mods to still reach that ideal load list are always being pursued, so I'm open ears for recommendations as well. So moving on with the load order and a description of what each mod does.

01) Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - MASTER FILE https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2947804 418MB (4702MB left)
Fixes hundreds of bugs and issues that Bethesda never got around to actually fixing.

02) Campfire: Complete Camping System - MASTER FILE
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2941311 36.6MB (4665.4MB left)
Campfire is the most feature-rich camping gameplay mod for Skyrim, and the foundation of Frostfall. Create and buy camping equipment using items in the world around you. You can create over a dozen useful items on-the-spot no matter where you are in Skyrim.

25) Obsidian Weathers and Seasons
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4046856 2.6MB (3716.7MB left)

SMIM greatly improves the appearance of countless 3D models in Skyrim. After over 4 years of active development, SMIM improves nearly a 1,000 meshes placed in thousands of locations.

30) Vivid Landscapes Complete
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4042594 405.3MB (2050.1MB left)
An additional graphics texture replacer that covers the rest that Graphics Pack and the SMIM Add-On does not.

31) Glowing Ore Veins 300 (OPTIONAL)
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3123538 7.1MB (2043MB left)
This mod serves to make the game's ore veins much more visible, especially in darker environments. It accomplishes this by replacing the cubemap textures used by ore veins. This gives them a glow that appears brighter as the ambient lighting becomes darker.

Without the mod, ore veins are very difficult to see and really don't stand out much against the rocks around them. The new version changes the meshes to use new cubemaps instead of modifying the game's original cubemaps. So the ore veins are the only things affected by this mod.

32) Old Kingdom - Weapon Overhaul
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4038561 535MB (1508MB left)

Windstad Mine is a player-owned mine that allows you to transform a bandit-infested cave into a profitable mining operation. Constructing the mine and its facilities will reward the player with income every day and the ability to extract ore from its vast mineral reserves. The mine can be further expanded by excavating two additional mining shafts (which allow access to additional types of ore) and a fishery business, as well as hiring guards to protect your property.

41) Heljarchen Farm
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3101746 19.8MB (632.9MB left)

Heljarchen Farm is a player-owned farm that allows you to rebuild a once-abandoned property into a functional farming business. Restoring the farm to its former glory will reward the player with income every day and the ability to harvest crops grown on the farm fields. The farm can even be upgraded further with the construction of a small meadery and guardhouse, allowing you to earn gold from a meadery operation, with guards protecting your goods against thieves.

42) Practice Dummies
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2940915 131KB (632.8MB left)
Practice Dummies allows you to train your 1H and 2H combat skills, archery, and magic skills with frost, fire, and shock spells. You can do this up until skill level 30, after which you will gain no more insight from attacking the dummies. This is accomplished through the use of a simple script attached to combat dummy objects which are already present in the game but never used. Archery targets required the creation of a second object to replace the normal static target objects.

Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul is a mod whose purpose is to increase player in-game immersion by greatly improving Artificial Intelligence (AI) of friendly NPCs (citizens) in order to make them act and react like true humans in relation to their environment or to an aggressor.

46) Realistic Conversations
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3008843 3.9KB (610.4MB left)
Ever wondered why npcs always seems to have a longer pause between each sentence? Well No more, They are actually talking like people should do now. Every social logic in Skyrim for npcs is changed, they talk more often to each others. And will less likely greet to you from a distance, they will also greet less often too, making them to not act as much as robots.

47) Smilodon - Combat Of Skyrim
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3093882 110.2KB (610.2MB left)
Smilodon improves combat AI, increases lethality and adds more depth to combat. Battles are more deadly, enemies fight like they are trying to win, and mechanics like timed blocking, stagger and attacks of opportunity create more depth. Minimal scripting and no save bloat.

48) Hunterborn SSE
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4025081 64.8MB (545.5MB left)
Hunterborn changes the simple routine of kill-and-loot on animals into something more immersive. This mod has its origins in Realistic Wildlife Loot, but I wanted something more in-depth for the actual process of dressing down a kill, skinning it for its pelt, taking material from it for alchemy, and finally butchering its meat - based on the animal's weight, not just a single cut of venison.

49) Alternate Start - Live Another Life
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2918744 11.9MB (533.6MB left)
Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen but also want the option to play the Vanilla intro. The power of choice being the winner of the day here. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead. A wide variety of choices will be available.

50) INeed - Food, Water And Sleep
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2970856 6.6MB (526.9MB left)
The goal of this mod is to provide an incentive to "live" in Skyrim without demanding a significant change in playstyle. The player is now needs to eat, drink, and sleep or will suffer stat penalties and if left alone for too long will get sick and ultimately die.

51) INeed - Extended
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3186066 - 896.2KB (526MB left)
Expands INeed to allow snow collection from medium to large exterior snow drifts simply by activating them. Remove magic effect buffs and debuffs from most food and drink items. Remove the Salt Pile ingredient from cooked meat. Rebalance soup recipes by adding a water ingredient requirement and by changing the number of soups produced from 1 to 2. Innkeepers will now sometimes sell soups and Hearthfire foods.

52) Realistic Water Two
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3017538 76.4MB (449.7MB left)
One of the many upgrades to Skyrim Special Edition is the new water flow system that allows water to bend around turns and change speed depending on the environment. While the water is much improved over the original edition of Skyrim, water flow was applied to most bodies of water indiscriminately resulting in odd looking water at times. With this mod, lake, pond/marsh, river and ocean water are once again visually and aurally distinct from one another.

53) Realistic Water Two LOD Fix By Mfcfbro
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4042147 912.0B (449.7MB left)
Fixes LOD issues for Realistic Water Two.

54) Realistic Water Two - INeed Patch
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3017651 19.9KB (449.6MB left)
This patch allows for the refilling of waterskins by standing in water.

55) Vampires Suck: No Attacks In Towns OPTIONAL
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3003928 1.1KB (449.6MB left)
SUMMARY
"Vampires Suck" is a dumb mod that disables the vampire attacks in towns. This does not disable vampire attacks in the rest of the world.
WHY
This is for people who are afraid of their NPCs dying during the vampire attacks Dawnguard introduces after Level 8. Also for people who use a mod that increases the level of vampires and other enemies in the leveled list.

56) Relationship Dialogue Overhaul - RDO
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2965163 113.8MB (335.8MB left)
Adds over 5,000 lines of completely voiced dialogue for NPCs for more than 50 voice types, focusing mainly on friends, followers, spouses, and rivals. All dialogue is voiced using the original voices from the game, achieved through re-adding existing dialogue in new and suitable places, as well as editing together multiple lines to form brand new dialogue.

57) Wearable Lanterns
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3471457 3.2MB (332.6MB left)
Adds a craftable, wearable travel lantern that can be hooked onto your belt, or carried in your hand. Catch a torchbug in an empty torchbug lantern and let it light the way in dark dungeons while you keep your hands free during combat and adventuring.

Includes an optional lantern oil burning system.

If Campfire is installed, you can craft travel lanterns from Survival Skills: Create Item, and use lantern oil as tinder for your campfire.

58) ESO Skyshards
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3326557 11.6MB (321MB left)
ESO Skyshards places several shards throughout the province of Skyrim, including Dawnguard areas and Solstheim. Much like the ones from ESO itself, once you collect 3, you will earn 1 perk point to spend as you see fit. There are 6 in each section, for a total of 66 shards amounting to 22 extra perk points. That may seem like a lot, but by the time you've found them all you'll likely be pretty high level anyway so it balances out in the end.

59) The Forgotten City
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2950588 133.4MB (187.6MB left)
The Forgotten City is an award-winning, critically acclaimed expansion mod offering a unique 6 - 8 hour experience: a murder mystery investigation set in an ancient underground city. You'll need to solve it using your wits, and the ability to travel through time. It has a dark, non-linear story in which you'll interrogate suspects, explore the city and its many secrets, and navigate challenging moral dilemmas. It features multiple endings, an original orchestral score, and professionally voiced dialogue.

60) Undeath Remastered
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3434817 122.1MB (65.5MB left)
Excellent quest mod that allows the player to discover and obtain the necessary components for the ritual of undeath. Multiple paths. Decide if you want to stop a Necromancer cult or become a master Necromancer yourself and unlock the powers of a Lich.

61) XP32 Maximum Skeleton+Realistic Ragdolls And Force
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3395531 2MB (63.5MB left)
This mod is a combination mod. It includes both the XP32 Maximum Skeleton, and Realistic Ragdolls and Force. A multi purpose skeleton for animation in Skyrim. Reduces the extra force applied on ragdolls to a more reasonable level and replaces ragdolls so that they bend and twist realistically and fall at a faster velocity. Increase friction to fix ice-like ragdoll sliding.

62) Belt-Fastened Quivers
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/2921889 342KB (63.2MB left)
Repositions Quivers so they don't clip with backpacks and other equipment. Also includes a new arrow drawing animation to accommodate the new quiver position.

63) XP32 BFQ Patch
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4059969 657.2KB (62.5MB left)
Allows compatibility with XP32 and Belt-Fastened Quivers

64) A Quality World Map - Vivid With Stone Roads
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3268241 19.4MB (43.1MB left)
This mod provides a new set of highly-detailed world map textures, complete with most roads! The roads shown were artistically selected by IcePenguin. This mod also adds a detailed Solstheim map.

65) A Quality World Map - Clear Map Skies
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3268463 3.5MB (39.6MB left)
This add-on for A Quality World Map removes all clouds from the center of the map, granting a crystal-clear view of the world below. The clouds at the edges of the map are still present.

66) Insignificant Object Remover
https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3049177 1.4KB (39.6MB left)
This mod reduces the density of insignificant objects to 0, effectively removing their existence safely from your game. Those little rocks, twigs, bits of concrete, and piles of rubble populating your game aren't physical objects in the game world. It's actually GRASS that's generated on the fly using PARAMETERS initialized when you launch the game. This essentially removes 1/4 of all the grass you don't see to try which nets a few additional FPS for more performance.

10 hours with this load order and no issues so far. I wanted to finish the mod list by adding Enhanced Blood Textures which supposedly needs 18MB, however despite the Free Space claiming to be 39MB left. Skyrim gives the out of space error. So it seems there is a buffer for reserved unusable space. Still for those that don't own a PC and want a Skyrim experience that comes fairly damn close to a full modded out PC experience, this load order is an ideal approach with a mix of everything from gameplay overhauls, graphical improvements, new locations to explore and new quests to undertake.

Great thread. I've been meaning to get back into Skyrim to see how the sizeable Bruma expansion mods play. This is a fun mod that puts Nazeem in his place and sends him into the literal cloud district, so to speak:

I had totally forgotten that the Xbox version allowed mods. Now that I have an X I'm going to have to install a ton of these.

The dude who sells Heljarchem Farm has two deeds in his Inventory - I bought one but then nothing happened. No Map Marker or confirmation of a Quest etc. I am level 6 and scrapped together the money so I can't buy both lol Is this a bug?

Great thread. Have been itching for some Skyrim lately and purchased it on Xbox 1 last time it was on sale. Mainly due to the superior mod experience you can get over PS4.

Also double dipped with Fallout 4 on Xbox due to the mods, but haven't really looked to much into it.

Not bad. Although I was just checking nmm and I had 130+ mods enabled when I was playing Skyrim VR a few months back. lol

OmegaDL50 this is amazing. Great work here. There's something incredibly unique about Skyrim. R
Regardless of how many hundreds of hours one spent playing, we feel compelled to come back to it.

Thanks OP.

I've sunk a few hundred hours into Skyrim.

Well have a play with this.

Might be too overwhelming to add all of them at first though.

I'm glad you did this. I tried out a bunch of mods, but ended up getting major drops and some incompatibilities, due to attempting my own load order.

Fantastic work, thank you so much for the effort! Despite not owning an Xbox myself, the future prospect for modding looks very bright on that platform, I am very jealous as a PS-player.

I find it quite amazing how far you can go with the mod support for Skyrim on Xbox One. I've always felt like both Microsoft and Bethesda undersell this feature. These are all shot on a heavily modded console, that's so surreal.

I did this load order list for my gf a while back, and I use it too. No crashes, surprisingly it works wonders. Skyrim SE is very stable.

My load order:

Great work OP with the detailed descriptions!
And beautiful screens Katarn342!

As a long time PC Skyrim player I've played around quite a bit with mods too but it was years ago, I always got to the point where the framerate started dropping though, even on a beefy rig. So I have to ask, how's the framerate on console with all these applied?

This thread makes me want to jump back in again. Best RPG ever!

It's mostly good. All interiors are flawless 30fps, never even the slightest drop. Exteriors are usually good but there are specific areas that are pretty bad. Such as the city of Riften and forts. It's not unplayable per se, but it is quite annoying. Funny enough, my modded set up plays better on a original Xbox One than on my Xbox One X because the latter is forced to run at 4K.

Bah, that's just typical, such a waste of performance (imo). And you can't force it to run at 1080p by setting the system to 1080p?

Unfortunately no. Microsoft doesn't force developers to target 4K, so I wonder why Bethesda doesn't offer a "performance option" that just sets the definition lower than 4K. I know that some framedrops are CPU-bound but I have tested the same save on both One and One X and I can clearly see that it runs better on the former.

Yeah that's all intended. You just need to own the deed and can access the chest to rebuilt the property. There is no grand announcement that you are now the property owner. Works that way on PC too.

Yeah I figured I'd better go and see if the farm was there after buying a deed. Found the crate to kick it off. Thanks for the work you put into this thread - made me dust off my copy of Skyrim - will potter about until RDR2 unlocks.

I'll probably also come up with my ideal load order on PC soon too, but keep in mind it's a preference thing. As I said I typically focus on things that improve gameplay such as new landmasses to explore and new quests to undertake. Too many folks in the PC space focus on Anime hair and body mods to make every character look like a supermodel. Now don't get me wrong I also use body replacement mods, just I don't try to turn my females in to barbie dolls in minimal armor that is completely unsuitable for actual combat. I have a strong inclination for mods that despite the limitations of the vanilla combat experience and leveling mechanics to work around that and improve it.

SkyRe or PerMa for example which neither exist on Xbox so EnaiSiaion stuff like Ordinator, Apocalypse, and Smilodon are the closest comparable replacements on Xbox.

There is stuff like Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Undeath, Helgen Reborn, etc Gameplay expansions, major quest additions, stuff that just builds on top of the existing world or expands it, A few of these are unfortunately not on Xbox either.

Then there is iNeed, Frostfall, and Hunterborn. You have all of these animals and game present in the game as well as being able to grow crops and cook food and they don't really amount to much in the vanilla experience. iNeed makes it so you need to eat and sleep to survive. Frostfall requires you to be prepared for the elements such as rain, snow, and freezing weather. Hunterborn allows you to hunt animals, skin their pelts, carve the meat which ties back into the loop of iNeed to feed yourself, and Frostfall to create your own fur capes and cloaks to keep warm. Its synergistic in all how it all comes together.

What happened to mods on the XB1?

Seemed like such a big feature reveal at the time, and very few devs have implemented it.

Here's some videos that show off some of the mod stuff

A shame you can't record more than 2 minutes with X Enabled game. Would have loved to get a 10 minute video up there. Maybe it's time for me invest a Elgato or one of those other game console capture devices.

That's a legit mod list, my dude. It's crazy to me that this is possible on consoles now. I hope Bethesda keeps it up for Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6.

Plug in an external hard drive and you can record for an hour in 4K/60. However, you do need to plug that hard drive into a PC or other device to edit and upload its somewhere. Some don't like that step, but in essence it turns an external hard ride into a capture card. I recorded 8 hours of 4K Witcher 3 play like this.

I'd say it's because no other major AAA developers are as open with mods as Bethesda and no indie developer will want/have the resources to integrate mods into their game. So, since Bethesda Studios hasn't released a new XB1 title since Skyrim: Special Edition mods have kind of just died out on the platform. We'll see what happens with TESVI and Starfield, I guess.

I'm starting to put together my mod list for PC users folks. Keep in mind my PC mod list is much more comprehensive. If you intend to use it prepare to reserve at least 15 GB of space for just the mod list alone.

I have an i7 6700k, 1070 GTX, and 32GB of Ram. So I can pretty much bruteforce Skyrim SSE in terms of modding and never run into memory related issues. Of course no PC is created equal so my mod experience may wildly vary to your own.

To prepare I suggest downloading these essential tools in advance. Vortex (replaces NMM), LOOT, TES5Edit and Wrye Bash.

There will be mods with multiple level lists, LOOT will greatly assist with the organized load order, TES5Edit will clean dirty mods, Wrye Bash will merge level lists. Optimization, clean mods, and minimal conflicts. I find these essential for a proper PC Skyrim modding experience.

PC mod list is gonna take me a day or so to compile. It's comprised of 160 mods in the load order, so it's fairly massive in terms of overall changes. I'll be sure to cover the essentials and what I would consider optional additions, but again preferences and whatnot.

Here is a preliminary version of my PC / Steam Skyrim SSE load order. I will update it with more verbose and detailed descriptions over time.

01) Apachii Sky Hair Full
02) Apachii Sky Hair Female
03) Apachii Sky Hair Male
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2014
An excellent hair replacement pack. The default Full has both mix extra hairs for males and females and the individual Male and Female packs add additional hair models and textures over the original Full pack. Install all three to expand your character creation options.

04) Unofficial Sky Special Edition Patch
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266
No surprises with this one. This is the definitive patch mod for Skyrim that corrects and fixes thousands of issues that Bethesda themselves did not fix. An essential mod for any Skyrim mod user.

05) Legacy of the Dragonborn
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/11802
Legacy of the Dragonborn is a DLC sized expansion which centres around your own personal museum in Solitude. Offering dozens of new fully voice acted quests, hundreds of new items, a completely new guild and MUCH more.

06) Campfire
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/667
Campfire is the most feature-rich stand-alone camping mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, created from Frostfall's immersive and detailed camping system. Campfire is also a modder's framework, allowing anyone to create their own unique camping equipment.

07) Expanded Towns and Cities
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13552
Expands upon existing towns, villages, settlements, cities, etc. (This is a complete rebuild of the LE version - Not a direct port.) So far includes Darkwater Crossing, Dawnstar and Riverwood. Other towns will be added as they're completed. (Rorikstead currently in-progress.)

08) Falskaar
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2057
A DLC sized new lands mod that adds 20+ hours of fully voiced lore friendly (But not canon) quests, dungeons, and more.

09) FileAccess Interface for Skyrim SE Scripts - FISSES
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13956
Easy to use interface for modders to save&reload in-game variables (e.g. MCM settings) to/from file. I use this to save presets for A Matter of Time to configure the placement of in-game clock.

10) Wyrmstooth
https://archive.org/details/Wyrmstooth1.17B
Wyrmstooth adds a new quest that takes the Dragonborn to the island of Wyrmstooth situated north of Solitude across the Sea of Ghosts. Battle across new landscapes and through new dungeons in this expansion-sized mod. The task may seem simple enough: slay a dragon that's stirring up trouble. But things never quite go that easily...

11) SkyUI
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12604
Elegant, PC-friendly interface mod with many advanced features. Essential for many mods due to it's include Mod Configuration Menu that integrates into Mods that utilize Skyrim Script Extender.
SKSE64 is REQUIRED.

12) Interesting NPCs SSE
http://3dnpc.com/2017/11/20/3dnpc-v3-4-for-oldrim-and-sse/
Interesting NPCs includes over two hundred NPCs, each with unique dialogue options, as well as dozens of new quests. Most NPCs added have extensive dialogues that explain their background, as well as sometimes disclosing more information about the lore of The Elder Scrolls Series established in previous titles

13) Lore Weapon Expansion
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9660
Lore Weapon Expansion (L.W.E) is a project that aims to expand the available weapons found in-game via loot and the crafting menu. All of the included weapons are lore based, meaning they are either based on designs found in previous games (with visual upgrades) or based on descriptions/places/characters mentioned in the series lore.

14) Reverb and Ambience Overhaul.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/701
Makes all sounds more realistic for player and NPCs. Improves and balances ambiance and reverb to be more realistic and lively. Increases the diversity and dynamics of in-game sound. Fixes numerous issues. Lightweight and compatible with all sound replacer mods.

15) Touring Carriages
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/15948
Ride wagons from cities, towns, and settlements, with vanilla recorded commentary. Makes Carriage fast travel much more immersive in that you are actually rode your destination based on the in-game travel mechanic instead of an instantaneous teleport with a load screen.

16) Undeath Remastered
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6180
Uncover a small new questline that will take you to the frigid peaks of the Dragontail Mountains themselves, and beyond, as you pursue a powerful necromancer and his followers, and thwart their plans to acquire powerful artifacts and ingredients for an unholy ritual. What you choose to do with those reagents, and the forbidden knowledge they have stolen however, is up to you...

Requires cleaning in SSEEdit. Refer to LOOT for the link for cleaning instructions.

17) Better Male Presets
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2001
Adds a set of human and elf male presets that are more attractive than the vanilla versions, to make character creation a little easier. This is NOT a texture replacement mod. It simply makes the built-in vanilla presets better than the defaults.

18) Static Mesh Improvement Mod
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/659
A massive project to greatly improve the appearance of countless static 3D models in Skyrim. Basically, this is my attempt to make the Skyrim architecture, clutter, furniture, and landscaping much nicer.

19) Gildergreen Regrown
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/348
A mod to make the Gildergreen in Whiterun grow from the sapling back into a full tree over time. Takes approximately 6 months in-game time to grow from a sapling into a full adult.

20) Immersive Sounds - Compendium
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/523
A dramatic and extensively customizable overhaul of Skyrim's sound.

21) Enhanced Blood Textures SE
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2357
Makes blood textures and gore effects in Skyrim much more realistic over the default game.

22) Enhanced Lights and FX
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2424
Enhanced Lights and FX has the goal to create a more dramatic and realistic mood to the Skyrim lighting. Exterior mod uses 21st mod load order according to LOOT. Vibrant exteriors and realistic interiors. Dungeons and Night time are much darker but not so much they hinder gameplay. Intended for usage with Torches and Wearable Lantern. Also Makes Nighteye spell effects actually effective instead of washing out your view.

23) A Matter of Time
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12937
This mod adds a clock to the HUD showing the current time of day and more. To be used in conjunction with Dynamic Timescale and Immersive Hud.

24) Andromeda - Unique Standing Stones of Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/14910
Andromeda replaces the mundane vanilla Standing Stone effects with two new abilities per stone, enabling many new character builds. Upon discovering all Standing Stones, each of them also grants a unique power.

25) MorrowLoot Ultimate
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3058
MorrowLoot Ultimate overhauls your game for it in a way that's vanilla-friendly. Skyrim's loot and most enemies are no longer leveled, new and vanilla artifacts are powerful, and Morrowloot's old leveled lists have been meticulously perfected. Earn your success and reap the rewards.

26) Summermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6285
Summermyst adds 120 new enchantments to the game. The new enchantments are integrated seamlessly into the vanilla item system. It also makes many improvements to vanilla enchantments.

27) MLU - Summermyst
Mod on the same page for MorrowLoot Ultimate.
Allows MorrowLoot Ultimate and Summermyst to play nice together without conflicts.

28) Book Covers Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/901
Book Covers Skyrim is a retexture of all the readable books, journals, and notes in Skyrim. It gives each book and journal its own unique cover and adds many additional paper styles to the notes.

29) iNeed - Food, Water, and Sleep
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/645
The goal of this mod is to provide an incentive to "live" in Skyrim without demanding a significant change in playstyle. Your needs will adjust to your timescale so by default you should only feel the need to eat and drink 2-3 times a day and sleep once per day provided that you are consuming full meals and getting a full night's sleep. Just use a little common sense, follow a schedule and you should hopefully find that the features here are intuitive and have been well integrated into the world. The Extended version of iNeed uses the 28th place in the mod load order.

30) Skyrim Immersive Creations Special Edition
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12680
Skyrim Immersive Creatures adds dozens of new creatures to enhance your gaming experience. This mod adds brand new creatures which fit in to the world of Skyrim, alongside variations of existing creatures, adding diversity and improving gameplay.

31) Cutting Room Floor
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/276
A mod to restore several pieces of cut content in Skyrim Special Edition.

32) Forgotten Dungeons SSE
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/449
Forgotten Dungeons adds 49 new radiant-quest enabled + 11 extra dungeons in game. Covering Skyrim, The Forgotten Vale, Solstheim, and extras.

33) Helgen Reborn
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5673
Excellent gameplay and quest mod that focuses on rebuilding the town of Helgen into a thriving community, on top of adding an extensive questline with new dungeons, an underground fighting arena, and NPCs with decent voice work.

34) Shezrie's Old Hroldan Town
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/7857
This mod adds a brand new town around the Old Hroldan Inn located in the Reach with many new shops and a secret underground town. 800 Lines of new dialog from 25+ NPCs.

35) Hunting in Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/10353
Adds a Hunting Guild to the game, and completely overhauls the entire hunting experience. It features realistic animal skinning (like Red Dead Redemption), animal trapping, kill & stat tracking, new skills and abilities, new NPCs and locations, new dungeons, new weapons and more. An awesome complimentary mod for Hunterborn.

36) Better Harvesting
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/522
This is a mod that changes the harvesting in Skyrim for flora and ingredients and items you find on dead animals/creatures. No more will you just harvest 1 flower or pick up 1 mushroom, or 1 snowberry when harvesting flora, or harvest 1 mammoth tusk from a mammoth, or 1 sabre cat tooth from a sabre cat, or 1 hagraven feather from a hagraven---you will instead get a realistic random amount that reflects what you are harvesting. I have gone round all the flora, ingredients etc you harvest from plants or dead animals in the base game and DLC and based on my judgement picked a realistic amount you could randomly harvest taking into account what you harvest, the item harvested, and the size of the thing you're harvesting. So don't worry you won't get 3 sabre cat eyes, or 5 goat legs, just an amount that I think is more realistic and not too much that it makes harvesting overpowered.... you still have to harvest but not quite as much now.

This mod also removes finding gold coins, necklaces, rings, gems etc on dead animals, although there is an optional file to download if you still prefer animals to drop gold and valuables. Use only one of those, not both together.

37) Flora Respawn Fix
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13186
This is an essential fix if you are an alchemist. See, since the 1.3 patch there has been a bug in the Skyrim engine that it can't 'remember' that plants, mushrooms, nests, and some salmon have respawned, after you reload a save. So you might go to a place again, see that everything is as it should be (i.e. has respawned), then if you save and reload... poof! it's gone. You have to wait for the cell to reset again. You might not notice it unless you look for it, but I've seen it explained as "oh plants take 30 days to respawn" (they don't, they would normally respawn when the cell they're in resets - like anything else), or that certain plants just don't respawn (they all should), or whatever. Nope, bug. Most players have just gotten used to it.

Well, they don't have to get used to it anymore. This mod can't directly fix Skyrim.exe, but it can alter how these flora and fauna are processed by the executable, such that they are no longer affected by the bug.

38) Thunderchild - Epic Shouts and Immersion
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1460
Thunderchild enables players to create shout-centric characters, adding 29 new shouts with multiple effects. It also includes several buffs that are unlocked by completing Kyne's tests of faith, a custom Greybeard Robe in several variations, the High Hrothgar Library, and an assortment of buffs and bug fixes for vanilla shouts.

39) Immersive Armors
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3479
Immersive Armors seeks to drastically enhance the variety of armors in the world of Skyrim in a lore friendly way. The goal of every set is to blend into the lore, balance, and feel of the game for the most immersive experience possible.

40) MorrowLoot Ultimate / Immersive Armors compatibility fix
Allows MorrowLoot Ultimate and Immersive Armors to play nice together.
Mod on the same page for MorrowLoot Ultimate.

41) PrivateEye's Heavy Armory
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6308
This mod adds nearly 100 new weapons to Skyrim. You will find all new Halberds, Spears, Glaives, Shortswords, Quarter staves, Mauls, Hatchets and Clubs. Looking for some new gear to bash a skull in with (or get your skull bashed in with)? Then look no further than Heavy Armory!

42) Ars Metallica - Smithing Enhancement
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/321
Adds the ability to forge arrows, gain skill for smelting and mining, melt down unwanted armor and weapons, and more.

43) Even Better Quest Objectives
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/159
This mod enhances the quest descriptions in the vanilla game so that you have a clear sense of where you are supposed to go and what you are supposed to do besides looking at the quest markers. Let's face it - the quest descriptions were quite bad, not specifying where you are supposed to go by themselves, and forcing you to play with the quest markers on all the time. This affects nearly 250 quest objectives/descriptions, spanning over 160 quests, editing descriptions that were either really vague or didn't exist at all.

44) Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers (OPTIONAL)
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/684
Adds quest markers to all 24 of the Stones of Barenziah (Unusual Gems) that you need to find/collect for the "No Stone Unturned" quest.

45) Beards
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1067
Beards is part of Hvergelmir's Aesthetic mod series that aim to replace (and add) vanilla character creation textures, such as beards, brows, tintmasks/makeup, eyes, warpaint and so forth with new high quality hand painted textures.

46) Belt-Fastened Quivers
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1182
Belt-Fastened Quivers repositions quivers and crossbow bolts in order to be more "backpack friendly" for the player and all NPCs. The position is similar to the quiver location in Dark Souls.

47) Point The Way
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/352
A mod to provide more road signs at various road intersections so you don't need to refer to your map so often.

48) Run For Your Lives
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2272
A small mod that makes citizens in a village or city run indoors during a dragon or vampire attack.

This was born out of frustration at seeing the citizens all trying to be a hero and rushing headlong to their doom attacking dragons and vampires. Instead, the citizens will run to safety like smart people should when faced with the horrors of giant flying fire breathing lizards (or bloodthirsty undead). NPCs who live in the attack location who own a home there will retreat to it. If the attack location has an inn, NPCs who don't live there will flee to the inn, along with any NPCs who live outdoors. If no inn is present the game picks a random interior from the surrounding area and those NPCs will flee there instead.

This should work for any NPCs added by mods as well, up to a limit of 150 in the area. After that, they're on their own. The NPCs chosen are first come, first serve by the game engine.

49) Cloaks of Skyrim
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6369
Adds almost 100 new styles of cloak to the world of Skyrim, via crafting, levelled-lists, and static loot. They are lore-friendly and enchantable, and more are being added with every update. The aim of this mod is to provide some variety and flavour to the world, as well as the chance to wear a stylish cloak and quite literally keep the cold out. Integrates nicely with Frostfall so you can wear armor and look stylish against the the harsh cold.

50) Heljarchen Farm SSE Revamped
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4108
Heljarchen Farm is a player-owned farm that allows you to rebuild a once-abandoned property into a functional farming business. Restoring the farm to its former glory will reward the player with income every day and the ability to harvest crops grown on the farm fields. The farm can even be upgraded further with the construction of a small meadery and guardhouse, allowing you to earn gold from a meadery operation, with guards protecting your goods against thieves.

51) Inigo
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1461
Inigo is a fully voiced khajiit adventuring companion with over 7000 lines of unique dialogue - much of it about you. He'll level alongside you and avoid most traps. If you're sneaking he won't chatter and he'll whisper if you talk to him. He can run out of arrows. He's highly skilled in archery, one-handed, and sneak. He levels with you equally so he will never become useless.

52) Keld-Nar
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/14353
Keld-Nar is a new and lore friendly village in Eastmarch, near the Dwemer ruin of Mzulft. It boasts an inn, a blacksmith, stables to park your horse at, and a decent sized local garrison of troops. Unlike many other populated areas, Keld-Nar welcomes Khajiit, owing to the history the ancestors of the current residents had with them in Feldscar those many decades ago.

53) Common Clothes
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5063
This mod adds countless armours and clothes to the game. They are phenomenal quality and fit the game very well.

54) DBM_MLU_Patch.esp
Allows Legacy of the Dragonborn and MorrowLoot Ultimate to play nice together.
Part of the Legacy of the Dragonborn compatibility patches.

55) DBM_HelgenReborn_Patch.esp
Allows Legacy of the Dragonborn and Helgen Reborn to play nice together.
Part of the Legacy of the Dragonborn compatibility patches.

56) Windstad Mine SSE
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4160
Windstad Mine is a player-owned mine that allows you to transform a bandit-infested cave into a profitable mining operation. Constructing the mine and its facilities will reward the player with income every day and the ability to extract ore from its vast mineral reserves. The mine can be further expanded by excavating two additional mining shafts (which allow access to additional types of ore) and a fishery business, as well as hiring guards to protect your property.

57) Hunterborn SE
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/7900
Changes animal looting into a process of dressing, skinning, harvesting, and butchering. Adds hunting knives, many new alchemy ingredients, animal meat, recipes, and foraging.

58) Immersive Patrols
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/718
Immersive Patrols adds a reasonable amount of Stormcloak, Thalmor, Imperial and Dawnguard patrols to Skyrim and a few Skaal, Reaver and Riekling "patrols" to Solstheim. These patrols often cross paths with each other or the player creating new encounters or unexpected aid. It also includes small Civil War battles and some non-Khajiit Caravans.

Ever been caught in a three way crossfire with Thalmor Justicars and and a rogue traveling Necromancer completely randomly while traveling? This is what this mod does and it's glorious for this. Getting to your next dungeon now brings an unexpected surprise when you come across these patrols on the road.

59) Bring Out Your Dead
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/323
Bring Out Your Dead is a simple yet immersive mod which expands on the number of graves given to the unique NPCs in areas of the game that don't currently have them. Solitude, Windhelm, Whiterun, Riften, and Markarth all have a Hall of the Dead that contains coffins and urns for various unique NPCs who live there. Their items are transferred to their assigned coffin when they die. The smaller cities of Falkreath, Morthal, Dawnstar, and Winterhold do not have these facilities, and neither do the other smaller villages and towns. NPCs living on farms outside the major hold capitols don't get buried in their Hall of the Dead either. This mod aims to correct this and provide for more uniform handling of everyone's dead.

60) ESO Skyshards
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6331
ESO Skyshards places several shards throughout the province of Skyrim, including Dawnguard areas and Solstheim. Much like the ones from ESO itself, once you collect 3, you will earn 1 perk point to spend as you see fit. There are 6 in each section, for a total of 66 shards amounting to 22 extra perk points. That may seem like a lot, but by the time you've found them all you'll likely be pretty high level anyway so it balances out in the end.

I'm probably going to revise the Xbox One load order. In my experience the Old Kingdom mods are too bloated. It takes up more than a gigabyte of data for minimal impact on the weapon textures. I mean they ARE an improvement over the vanilla textures but not so much I'd waste precious XB1 space over them considering how limited 5GB you have to utilize. I'm going to do some extensive testing over the weekend and do some experimentation, if I'm not caught up playing RDR2 that is. In any case what I can be gained by removing Old Kingdom can probably be put into other areas overall, texture improvements for character models for instance and extra quest mods for more gameplay variety. Should be interesting.

Also the PC load order is coming along nicely so I'll have that sorted out by the end of the weekend so any folks who want to revisit Skyrim SSE have something to check out once I got that fully posted.

Awesome thread - Skyrim is one of my all time favorite games. Will mods disable achievements?

I'm still mad Bethesda never fixed ambient occlusion only rendering on half of the screen 100% of the time on X. If Digital Foundry had pointed it out I bet it would have gotten fixed.

Interesting. As someone who has loved Fallout and its gameplay, and a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings books, I always thought I would love Skyrim. I have tried to play a number of times and just fallen off. Are there a small amount of mods someone would recommend for me to just experience the story. I hate to say god mode, but something but that is probably not far from what I'm thinking. I dont want everything given at the start of the game but maybe just drastically lower the difficulty so I can chew threw it and experience the story.

Yes, but if you are playing a modded save you probably exhausted yourself with the vanilla content and want to try something different, so at that point achievement hunting won't matter much.

I have not played the X version yet - bought it a long time ago. How do you recommend I start?
