And there is no one more qualified to point out the "hard truth" to women and minorities then an old white dude living in the whitest state in the Union.

Sigh.. I so tired. Can we just vote for who ever has a D next to their name and get Trump the fuck out already?

There were at a private dinner having a conversation that we are hearing the "game of telephone" version of.

Bernie and Warren know where they stand with each other and know whats at stake. The bullshit is everyone else opinion on it that doesnt fucking matter at all

Just hate to say it, but the disinformation campaign (read the Russians) is already working. Remember that all of the Democrats still in the race (including Biden) are decent humans, flawed, not perfect, but decent. This infighting is what the other side and our enemies want. Remember that.

what on earth are you talking about? This story was obviously leaked by the Warren campaign to hurt Bernie in response to his surging poll numbers.

Her fucking camp leaked the private conversation to begin with. She's not an innocent bystander being attacked.

If she had nothing to do with it leaking, and didn't want it to leak, she could've said the whole story. Either she's lying, or she's using the situation for her gain. Neither of the options make her look any less untrustworthy.
Cool, so just compare her to a serial murderer.

That's what I initially hoped, but then her statement was so wishy washy that it really left me disappointed with her. If her staff did it then she needs to come out and say that, but she didn't.

Why state it at all if you don't want to talk about it any further? Warren is sending a mixed message while Bernie's message has been consistent for literally DECADES.

Yeah, her vagueness really cements the fact that, whether she intended for the leak to happen or not, she's more than happy to exploit the moment.

I've stated it before but for me, Bernie and Warren are largely interchangeable. Bernie is certainly a more left-leaning progressive but Warren is the second most progressive candidate we have and I think either of them could potentially be the best president in ages.

Instead, we have tribal factions ready to slit each other's throat while Creepy Uncle Joe rides the wave of our collective progressive red tide all the way to the nomination.

Progressives have to be smarter than this.
This. A thousand times this. Jesus get it together folks.

The Bernie supporters trying to downplay this here and in the older thread is pretty pathetic.

AOC will be the first woman to become POTUS I think (if she ever runs). She can break through these mindsets and prejudices. And this moment will be always remembered as the beginning of the golden age of democratic socialism haha

All I'll say about this is I've never been less confident in a Dem 2020 victory than I am today. What a mess this whole thing is.

My gut is that it was leaked by some of her staffers without her knowledge.

Mine as well. Her statement afterwards sounded like someone who wanted to be honest but at the same time trying to not stir up the shit more. Someone needs to get the boot (or fess up) for leaking a private convo but that'll probably just result in more conspiracy theory cries. Unless someone can find evidence she authorized this leak I have no reason to believe she knew anything about it.

The repeated claims this is all because of some Iowa Caucus polls seems limp. For one, fuck caucus' anyways, worst form of primary. For two the polling is pretty tight for the top four right now and if she authorized this trying to throw out some dirty laundry on him specifically thinking his followers would switch to her then the person we've seen giving speeches and policy positions must be a doppleganger 'cause that'd be a moronic move.

User Banned (3 Days): Inflammatory comparisons
Your leader can do no wrong, we get it.
It's kinda sad how people In cults doing cult like things just assume that everyone else must be the same. Reminds me so much of Trumpist Republican projection, just this time coming from the left. You are literally just assuming what he said was excusing her when he's just posting the facts of what she did about it and you're using right wing talking points without any regard for that because "fuck her"

Considering Hilary was one comey letter away from being the first female president it doesnt matter what context you frame it in, a woman could certainly win right now. If he was going to talk about her policies it wojld be one thing but he supports policies ever further left

What context does she need to provide? It's pretty clear cut. He said something, Warren says he said one thing, and Sanders said another.

To be honest, Sanders' own description of the events doesn't even reflect well on him, either. Imagine if you were a man and a woman going for the same job, and you said to your female coworker, "you know other people don't want you to have this job, right? They're gonna make it hard for you."

No one would go "oh, he's just talking about unfortunate realities". People would rightly assume you're trying to discourage your coworker from going for the job.

It is literally the same line she has used since prior to March of 2019. Not everything is about screwing Bernard.

Now it's been rendered inoperable, since apparently it doesn't stay private.

This is a dumb controversy all around but every time Warren is involved in one of these media controversies she manages to trip all over herself. Not a good sign for how she'd do in the fall.

It clashes pretty heavily with both things he's said and a number of demonstrated actions he's taken in support of women in politics. Even WaPo seems to suggest Sanders's words are being misrepresented.

Through all of this I don't understand why people are so quick to use stuff Bernie has said in public as reasons why he might say something different in private. He wouldn't be the first politician to do that, especially now that he's personally running against a woman and has something to lose, and I don't get why he gets the benefit of a doubt. What has he done to earn that, verses all the other men who've said the right things when the cameras are facing them, only to prove that they're less than stellar off camera?

I'm not trying to tell people what to think about this news story - but I would hope people don't form their opinion on it based on an op-ed from Krystal Ball.

No, it is not. This video is later than the initial events, and it is known that Sanders is not a sexist candidate. It has been known for decades, people keep posting videos about his speeches in this very thread, only for it to get ignored.

However, keep in mind that she produces 5-6 videos a day, and this election cycle has already been packed with events, so to find 10 that criticizes Warren, from a stated (i.e. self-described, clearly communicated) progressive host of the show is not only logical, it is also not unexpected.

I like how the same people who've been desperate to call out Bernies staff for playing dirty and now defending Warren's.

He said it.
He lied about it.
When confronted, he accused Warren staffers of lying.

Only he's publicly said the opposite? Including wanting her to run in 2016? It's his word against hers and to be honest she's not had a great record when it comes to Medicare or her heritage. Only one of the two politicians in question have held their beliefs throughout their entire lives.

I kind of assumed he told the truth about the climate making it more difficult for a woman to win. She misconstrued it to her staff to look better in front of them. Thus she didn't want it to leak.

It's kind of a nothing story given one of them doesn't want to talk about it and the other denies it.

Oh I'm sorry, did I misunderstand your comparison of Warren, a progressive politician running for president, to a fictional character who is a sociopath and serial murderer? Did you want to clarify it then?

Re-read their post, it reminded them of a line in one scene, they aren't saying both are the same lol

This thread sure is something else

Not a big fan of the Warren camp stirring the shit pot like this. Probably going to reconsider my primary vote and vote for Bernard.

Now that we are in conspiracy theory-land, I think what happened in that meeting is that either Warren or Bernie wanted to run with the support of the other. They disagreed on multiple things, and now they run against each other. I can imagine how Warren might have thought that Bernie will not run in 2020, as even half a year ago, his momentum was not as visible as it is now.

for something recent I would suggest his regular support of leftist congresswomen Tlaib and Omar (neither of whom are white, either) from bad faith criticism from the right/'moderates'

He's not running against them, and they endorse his candidacy.

I submit his support of Cenk Ugyur and numerous hiring/staffing gaffes as a counterpoint as well.
