Just finished replaying the switch port and...jumped right back in on xbox one as I saw it was on gamepass.

One of my few positive memories of my freshman year of college at Pitt was playing this in my dorm with a bunch of friends from my floor. We lost our MINDS when we got to the village and I got my head chainsawed off. One of my most vivid and favorite gaming memories.

Not my favorite RE (I actually like REmake, RE7, and REmake2 more), but I vividly remember the hype for this game and getting the playable demo disc at GameStop.

This game just felt special . It felt important. Not sure how to explain it accurately.
It's one of three games I ever owned for the Cube and it was well worth it. Glad I experienced in that capacity instead of the inferior PS2 port.

maybe the best designed game ever. this game is an absolute masterpiece, I'm so glad Capcom have brought it pretty much every console since its release.

The best-paced video game ever made.

Looking forward to the RE Engine remake that cuts out half the game!

Did the Switch version ever get Gyro? I swear they upgraded 6 of all things for it.
Might just have to bite the bullet and replay the PS4 version with its aiming deadzone

I really need to fully play through this again.

I beat it back when it first came out, but could never finish a run when I tried it after I bought it for X360 and later the XOne.
I got a close friend like wayyy into it and he was glued to my Gamecube for a while, but it baffled me that I would have to do the QTE parts for him. LIke... he just could not do them and that always seemed weird to me.

It was such a damn beautiful looking game when it came out, and personally, I still think it looks gorgeous.

I still remember walking down to the shop to pick this up pretty much on a whim. The only footage I'd seen was of the village section in a Gamespot video months before release. I was never the biggest RE fan, I respected the games, they just never really did it for me. I saw the footage and noticed they were really doing something different, but didn't really give it any thought.

I was off work when it released, noticed it came out that day and just thought "fuck it" I wanted a new game and noticed that this released. The rest is history, easily in my top 5 games of all time.

Unfortunately no. RE5 and 6 have gyro.
Adding gyro to the games that didn't have it and ignoring the one that did is a wonderfully Capcpom move.

Still my favorite 3D action game of all time, with probably one of the Megaman X's being my favorite 2D. Been waiting on that RE4HD remaster mod for years now, but I can't wait for it to be finished so I can 100% the game for the umpteenth time.

In all this time I've still never done a Red9 run. Waiting until that texture mod is all the way done.

I'm playing it right now and... maan, it's brutal sometimes. Being used to old RE, I want to save as many bullets as possible but those enemies are relentless. Adding salt to the injury I got to the point in which I need to escort Ashley, so double trouble.

If you want to save ammo, try to knee shot then knife enemies as much as possible. They stagger/stumble when you knee shot them, making them vulnerable to repeated knife attacks. This way you can save ammo as much as possible (and I usually end up selling a load of spare ammo for weapon upgrades).

I remember when this game came out and everyone was freaking out about it. Certain screenshots or scenarios you'll always remember from watching x-play or reading magazines. But I was pretty young back then and I hated anything that could even be remotely scary so I never played it (or any other resident evil). I do remember watching my friend play it a few times, and picking up the controller once or twice when he had the unlimited ammo guns. And of course I follow the industry pretty closely, so I've seen speedruns of it or full playthroughs from time to time. But I've never actually played it myself until buying it on switch a couple of weeks ago.

And already the game has suplexed its way into a top ten spot for me. I could write a book about how amazing this game is. It gets so many things right and then still manages to go above and beyond.

The Riot Gun praise in this thread is baffling. How could you forget the Striker!?

It's crazy that a remake of this game is now a very realistic possibility. I can't imagine how it would play, but it's always had superb art direction that could adapt wonderfully to modern technology. Hail to one of the all time greats.

If this was remade with a proper HD release like RE2, capcom could basically print money. It would sell like gangbusters

An RE2 style suggests it needs a fundamental reworking of the game, which I think is very much not the case as it still holds up to this day. What it actually needs is a Shadow of the Colossus style update that retains the fundamentally sound gameplay and only polishes up the visuals and sound

Legendary game. Easily one of the best. None of the future RE games sadly stacked up unfortunately. I didn't have much interest in this game before it released thanks to the mediocrity that was Code Veronica but this classic review from gamespot sold me hard.

Still think it should have gotten a 10 though. Deserves it way more than many others that have received that score.
The game blew my expectations out of the water and i must have replayed it more times than any other game i can think of.

You're right, it's not a good Resident Evil. It's a fucking great Resident Evil.

An absolute masterpiece. In 15 years only a handful of games have come close.

I played and beat it for the first time last month. I needed to see why so many people were praising this as one of the GOATs.

Yeah, I get it. It's a fantastic 9/10 game. The quick-time events are pure garbage, but it's all good otherwise. I literally screamed during some Regenerator encounters.

Id be happy with that, the controls have aged but I still was able to enjoy the game immensely. The sound in this game is a pure masterclass in dread. Regenerators anyone? No thanks. /Runs

Edge magazine did a reappraisal and upped the score from Nine to Ten.

:-)

Still have my original Wii console plugged in and play it from time to time. The definitive version with Wiimote pointer controls. Refuse to play it any other way.

It's blowing my mind that I was only 15 (!) when I played through RE4 for the the first time.

I remember pinning up blankets over my windows to achieve pitch blackness within my room. I think I played through RE4 on a 22 inch CRT, but that first playthrough was the most immersed I ever felt within a game.

The game is now as old as I was when it came out and I got Leon killed multiple times. Have since bought it a lot of times...

A game so good it killed its previous genre for nearly a decade. While I prefer REmake and RE2, the influence it had on third person action games is undeniable and is still a masterpiece in that genre today.
