Sounds like the complaints are mostly "Too much action compared to RE2 Remake"
Looks like some people never played the original lol

The original got criticized for that as well iirc, so the sequel not fixing that issue one way or the other doesn't help.

I don't see what there was to fix, though? RE3 felt like the first step towards the heavily action-orientated RE4. RE3 just toed the line with both survival and action horror elements. I thought it worked fine within the context of the original, but I didn't find it tonally off.

For the people that are saying it's too short. How long do you guys think the original was?

Like, please. It's perfectly fine.

I got RE2 on sale for 20 bucks and got 20 hours of fun out of it. I'll wait for this to drop to 15 or so.

I'm still day 0, but i really feel they should have kept the major story beats/locations. RE3 was way more tense and incredible than 2.

Man so disappointing. The best game of original trilogy got the worst remake. What happened capcom you were on a roll

It just seems a bit lost and all over the place. The cut content isn't as much noticeable as it is completely altering to what I would find enjoyable to a RE game. That being said it was fun at times. Just not like RE2 at all

But surely it's not being reviewed solely as 'how accurate is it to the original'. It's being reviewed as a videogame in 2020. And, if they've remade RE3 accurately, a lot of the things that a lot of people didn't like about the original are still gonna be a problem. Especially coming one year after RE2.

Reviews to me still indicate it's a game worth playing. Just don't expect it to hit the highs of RE2R.

I got the PC version relatively cheap ($46) so I'm good with it. Plus I have two kids and a full time career so short games are A-OK for me.

Yeah, I don't get why is it bad now. As I just posted, RE3 was the action game. I don't get why is that bad now?

Because the original had more variety, better Nemesis encounters, more locations and was generally the better paced game. I've seen quite a bit of the retail game, and I expected a lot of the changes to not sit well with the audience. I am a fan of RE3, and I didn't like a lot of the things they did.

Not really. Biggest complaints are lack of content, cut content on top of the lacking content, missing features, Nemesis being a downgrade from Mr. X, and it all being extremely scripted. RE 3 OG was none of that.

Clock tower was the best part of the original game and I always said it should have been longer..

Why do people here get excited for reviews if they're just going to dismiss criticisms that don't align with their expectations?

81 on OpenCritic. Certainly lower than I expected but still seems like it's absolutely worth playing. Pre-order confirmed!

Lmao, the way some of you are talking, this sounds like an incredibly shit game.

Relax.

Only thing I'm worried about is the gore and my fears turned out to be correct.

Kind of what I expected. RE3 was always more linear and setpiece driven than 2 so I don't much mind that or the short length as most classic RE's are pretty short. Although hearing they made some cuts its dissapointing as this was the perfect opportunity to flesh things out a bit.

Sounds like RE3, meaning a rushed incomplete game that evolves nothing, isn't remotely scary, and only offers fleeting enjoyment. Sad outcome after the last game won era GOTY.

What I am getting from reviews is that this is much more action heavy than RE2, and serves as more of a companion piece to 2 than a strong standalone experience. Yep, that sounds like RE3 to me. Right down to the reused assets. Still hyped for this. It's what I expected. Anyone who thought this was going to reinvent the wheel was playing the wrong game.

Damn I see a ton of them talking about cut content. What's been cut besides Extreme Battle or whatever?

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the game very much. If I had my own site, it would be a 8.5/10. Really fun to play, although I must say I never played OG RE3 so there's that.

Surprising. Not a total failure or anything mind you, reads like there's still a solid game here, but still surprising.
Seemed like the most sure bet one could have this year: An expansion pack to Resident Evil 2 essentially (just like the original RE3) but somehow tripping up to do that effectively.

The point is. Should this be reviewed comparing to the original? This is the main take. Some outlets will, and the game will suffer. Others will judge on RE3Rs own merits, and it will be higher.

That's true, I expected there to be a bit of a gulf between reviewers who have fond memories of the original (the writer for PSU did) and those who are fresh into it. Expected a common criticism of length across the whole spectrum, mind.

Are you....*bites tongue* "lovely people" really crying that you won't play it now because it's not as good as re2make and it's getting an 80 average? As if that's a terrible score or something? Fuck.

Damn, that's quite a drop from RE2. I'll still get it of course, but maybe I'll wait since I'll be balls deep in Persona anyways.

RE3 is my favourite classic RE game. I didn't expect them to reinvent the wheel but I DID expect them to not but the best part of the original! The sliced off areas from the original game are a huge sore spot that has nothing to do with expectations about the remake's innovation or how action focused it is.
