Eurogamer says it's not all the time. Gamespot and IGN say that, despite that, he can be a nuisance and get in the way of some puzzles.

omg I can FiNALLY TALK ABHOUT THIS.

He appears no matter who you play, but at different points throughout the game. He is a constant threat - think the Alien from Isolation. Though he can be downed with a few handgun bullets if you want to lose him. You can lose him too, and he can walk straight past you in a room if you're quiet enough.

There are some rooms where he won't follow you. which keeps you sane more than anything.

I don't get this review. The only complaints are that it's too faithful pushing new people away and not faithful enough by changing some things. So which is it? :/

He appears at a certain story point but then he is around pretty regularly. I usually hate the stalker shit too, but I think his implemntation here is fair.

As I predicted it's scoring similarly to MHW from last year. 91-92. Capcom has been on a roll since then so I knew this would be in that range. Glad my instinct was rewarded.
