If you're on Switch it takes like 10m to create and add an EU account. Then you just redeem it on the eShop.
Either when it ends or a few minutes later when you get the PM.
I think that depends on how the region settings work for whatever system. I.e. region locking or no.
You should be able to participate I think since that is the game's or store region where you can download it.

Also as some others have pointed out about the lurker requirement, in that it's not an ideal solution.
I believe an improvement to this could be a restriction to users who had already contributed to a thread before the GiftBot post is made. That would then also prevent low-quality posts to be made just to increase one's post-count in a community thread.
