Introduction

Welcome to ResetEra's fourth annual video game soundtracks of the year thread! This thread will serve to create a common point of reference for ResetEra's favorite game soundtracks in 2020, place a spotlight on the industry's musical talent and expose people to great video game music that they haven't heard before. It will also host a (hopefully) comprehensive archive of the year's game music and other related information.

Also, many thanks to EarthPainting, who is the real hero here. Also thanks to Nocturnowl, Schala, and many others who have handled these threads in the past.

Voting Rules

For your vote, select up to 10 of your favorite game soundtracks of the year and rank them in the order of your preference. Your first pick will receive 10 points, your second pick will receive 9 points, your third pick will receive 8 points, and so on down the list. Feel free to post more than 10, but anything past 10 will be considered an honorable mention and will not count for any points or tiebreakers. They will, however, help us in building the archive.

No special formatting rules apply, since all tallying will be done by hand. Just be sure to clearly identify the ranking of your picks.

Please list at least 1-2 tracks you feel are your favorites from each soundtrack you vote for, as it will make the process of building the Archive much easier. It is also highly suggested that you give a quick write-up for at least one of your votes, but this is not explicitly required.

Sample Ballot

1. Game A (will receive 10 points)
2. Game B (will receive 9 points)
3. Game C (will receive 8 points)
4. Game D (will receive 7 points)
5. Game E (will receive 6 points)
6. Game F (will receive 5 points)
7. Game G (will receive 4 points)
8. Game H (will receive 3 points)
9. Game I (will receive 2 points)
10. Game J (will receive 1 point)

Honourable Mentions (if any)

If you wish to do any sort of write-ups for your vote, you may do so in any way you wish. And absolutely feel free to make your vote as pretty as you want to make it.

You're highly encouraged to do more than simply list your selections; please provide links to standout tracks if you can and take the time to describe what makes the soundtracks special to you. We're hoping that everyone will want to join the conversation and take the opportunity to discover new soundtracks and composers. The most important thing about this thread is to have fun with voting and discovering new things.

Voting will end on March 5th at 23:59 PM (EST). The votes will not be counted until after the voting period closes, so you may edit your post and change your vote as many times as you would like before then.

-----------------------------------

Ineligible Soundtracks: 2020 has seen many games which have been either re-releases, ports, remasters, or games that have seen staggered releases in different regions. Because of this, some soundtracks are ineligible for voting for various reasons. Generally, if a game is remastered or ported and there is not a substantial change to the game's soundtrack, it is not eligible. If there is a substantial change to the game's soundtrack, such as through DLC or expansion, it is eligible.

  • Regional: If a game was released for the first time in your region this year, it is eligible even if it was previously eligible in a previous year or will be released in other regions in 2021.
  • Late Ports: No non-2020 ports are eligible. They are only eligible for LTTP votes.
  • HD Remasters with minimal changes: Remasters with minimal soundtrack changes are not eligible for point allocation this year. If you would like to vote for these Remasters, please do so in an honourable mention.
  • HD Remasters with major changes: Remasters with major soundtrack changes are eligible for point allocation. Please vote for these soundtracks normally.
  • Major expansions with new tracks: Expansions of some games are eligible for voting. Additionally, patch content for some games, such as Final Fantasy XIV, are eligible. If you are voting for these soundtracks, please specify that you are voting for their expansions.
Long story short: if you would like to mention a soundtrack or two that comes from a late port or re-release, you may add it onto your ballot as an honourable mention. If other soundtracks come up in conversation or via PMs, I will add them to the categories in this OP. If you have any substantial reasoning as to why an HD Remaster soundtrack should be eligible for point allocation, please send me a PM.

Aside from those exceptions, all soundtracks for games released in 2020 will be eligible, including licensed and partially-licensed soundtracks. To the extent that we're hoping to celebrate new music from this year and bring some attention to composers' new works, there's a bit of an implied "honour system" here; if you decide vote for a licensed soundtrack, an explanation as to why you think it was especially fitting for the game or thoughtfully compiled would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions about, or wish to discuss, a soundtrack's eligibility, please feel free to send a PM to me and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Nine times out of ten, my answer will probably be "yes", but if you're unsure please message me.

1. Genshin Impact
Yu-Peng Chen
Peaceful Hike
Gallant Challenge
Forsaken Child of Ancient Times
Rainbow at Summit
Liyue

There's too many tracks to pick. Almost everything has different remixes and night time renditions. All the music was recorded and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and it shows. As far as orchestral video game soundtracks go, this one is by far the best this year and probably one of the greatest of all time.

1. Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind
Yoko Shimomura
Nachtflügel
L'Oscurita dell'Ignoto
Vector to the Heavens
Masterclass in how to make old tracks feel fresh. Not only are the added segments to songs in this soundtrack amazing but the instrumentation is out of this world. And the few new songs related to a certain character are some of the best in the series as a whole.

2. Persona 5 Royal
Shōji Meguro
I Believe
Take Over
Throw Away Your Mask
Only 30 new tracks here but almost all of them are very very good. Feels like a natural extension to P5's already excellent soundtrack.

3. Final Fantasy VII Remake
Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Mitsuto Suzuki, Shotaro Shima, Yoshitaka Suzuki, Yoshinori Nakamura, Tadayoshi Makino, Yasunori Nishiki, Keiki Kobayashi, Takafumi Imamura, Daiki Ishikawa, Tsuyoshi Sekito, Ayumu Murai, Nozomi Toki
The Airbuster
Hollow Skies
The Valkyrie
The sheer volume of this soundtrack is as impressive as it's very high quality.

4. Granblue Fantasy Versus
Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Nishiki, Tsutomu Narita, Hidenori Maezawa, bassy, picnic, Nao Tokisawa, Azusa Chiba, Cygames, Johnny Kawahata
Existence
Party People
Butterfly Girl
I've not played GBVS anywhere near as much I wanted to but I'll be damned if I haven't enjoyed the music.

5. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Hitoshi Sakimoto, Mitsuhiro Kaneda, Yoshimi Kudo, Rikako Watanabe, Yukinori Kikuchi, Kazuki Higashihara, Azusa Chiba
-(ISOLEUCINE)-
-[DEOXYRIBOSE]-
Seaside Vacation
The destruction segments are 50% carried by the amazing songs that play during them.

6. Demons' Souls
Shunsuke Kida
Flamelurker
One Who Craves Souls
Tower Knight
I may have had some initial reservations about this but upon listening closely, it's a very fine soundtrack that exists hand in hand with the old one.

7. Doom Eternal
Mick Gordon, Bobby Prince
The Only Thing They Fear is You
Meathook
Cultist Base
Music that gets the blood boiling. Expectations were high and they were met.

8. Ghost of Tsushima
Ilan Eshkeri, Shigeru Umebayashi
The Way of the Ghost
Sacrifice of Tradition
Jin Sakai
Combines extremely well with the cinematography in the game. They enhance each other.

1. OMORI
Pedro Silva, Jami Lynne
You Were Wrong. Go Back.
Trees...

The tunes in Omori swap between boppin' boss beats, whimsical yet forlorn nostalgia, pure unfiltered dread, chill vibes, and ultimately just some very memorable compositions. My list of 2020 games is skinny, my list of GOTYs even skinnier, and my list here is only one item long, but what a stellar item it is

1. Paradise Killer
EGO 24-7
To The Heart
One of the greatest accomplishments of Paradise Killer is how confidently it manages to re-imagine the cosmic horror genre aesthetics. And music plays a huge role in this. Instead of creepy horror music, its soundtrack is filled with amazing, cheerful pop music and sick saxophone solos.

2. Hades
Lament of Orpheus (Underworld Mix)
God of the Dead
The Unseen Ones (ft. Masahiro Aoki and Daisuke Kurosawa)
Supergiant's soundtracks are always going to sound stellar, but this one manages to surprise both by focusing the vocal songs around Darren Korb, and by having a healthy dose of metal in contrast to their usual style.

3. Signs of the Sojourner
Main Theme
Hara
In a game with a presentation as minimalist as Signs of the Sojourner, music often has to carry an even bigger weight than usual in terms of setting up the atmosphere and overall feel of the game. And Sojourners folk soundtrack absolutely captures the post-apocalyptic, sad-but-also-hopeful feeling of the game.

4. 13 Sentinels
BUDDIES
To The Final Battle
(VALINE)

5. Crusader Kings III
The Dynasty
Charge of the Knights
Knights of Jerusalem

6. Granblue Fantasy Versus
Arvess
Noble Execution
The Path of Duty

7. Arknights

This doesn't seem to have an official ost release, and the only playlist I can find on Youtube uses what I think are just filenames for the song titles. The game also releases a number of additional songs or alternative versions of songs in the game as promotional material that don't actually appear in the game proper, so I don't think they count for this. Which is a shame, because a lot of them are great. Such as this vocal arrangement of the first song I listed.

1. Crawlco Block Knockers

(Link to bandcamp page with samples)

It was released 2019 on Steam but I first played the 2020 Switch release. The soundtrack is nu-disco and future funk. I'm a huge fan of acts like Tensnake, Tiger and Woods, Lindstrom, I:Cube, Yung Bae... so stuff like this is right up my alley.

The game and it's music blew me away. I did not expect a soundtrack this year to beat FFVIIR for me but it happened.

Its been one heck of a year for Game Music if you ask me. The top 3 could be interchangeable but overall felt like the current listing is where I'd rank them personally. Though for Them's Fightin' Herds, I was gonna include one of the dynamic music tracks from the game since a key thing with the fights is that the music of the stage changes based on which character has the momemtum. But many of those tracks are from 2018 when the game launched in Early Access so I'm not sure if that counts. Then again Hades also launched in EA and perhaps the tracks I posted are older than being on 2020. Also I was hoping to find one track from Spiritfarer where its when you are fishing for a huge fish (Bluefin Tuna or Albacore) and you get this fast paced fiddle song playing. That's probably my favorite track in the game but I can't find it on Youtube at all. Unless someone who has played the game knows what the track is.

1. Demon's Souls
Shunsuke Kida
Flamelurker
One Who Craves Souls
Maiden Astraea
Storm King
The original was cool. The new tracks are goddamn epic.

2. Panzer Dragoon Remake
Saori Kobayashi (new tracks), Yoshitaka Azuma (original)
Main Title
Opening Theme
Flight: Episode 1
I actually prefer the original OST here overall, but Saori's new songs are a great homage to the classics.

3. Hades
Darren Korb
Out of Tartartus
River of Flame
The Unseen Ones
I may dislike the game a lot but I can't deny the soundtrack is baller.

4. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Gareth Coker
Ku's First Flight
Kwolok's Hollow
Escaping a Foul Presence

Music that makes me cry, from a game that makes me cry. ;_; Lots of soaring, bombastic epics too.

5. Nioh 2
Yugo Kanno, Akihiro Manabe
Soaring
Shadow
Dream
Battle Theme 3
Some repeats from 1, but the lots of new great tracks too.

6. Streets of Rage 4
Yuzo Koshiro, Olivier Deriviere, Groundislava, XL Middleton, Keiji Yamagishi, Harumi Fujita, Motohiro Kawashima, Yoko Shimomura, Scattle, Das Mörtal
Next of Kin Showdown
Rising Up
On Fire
Das Mörtal's track (Next of Kin Showdown) is the best by far though. Synthwave > dance or trance or whatever. Sorry, it's true. All new SoR games should have synthwave soundtracks.

1. OMORI
Pedro Silva, Jami Lynne
You Were Wrong, Go Back
It Means Everything
World's End Valentine
See You Tomorrow
My Time (OMORI Ver)
This one came out of nowhere and really surprised me. I honestly didn't expect the soundtrack could live up to Bo En's contribution for the initial trailer (posted above) but the whole thing is full of amazing tracks.

2. Umurangi Generation
Adolf Nomura AKA ThorHighHeels
Highway Flash
The Fog on Katz Street
Beat the Police

3. Paradise Killer
Barry Topping
Paradise (Stay Forever)
GO!GO!STYLE
The Lemegeton Bop

4. Mad Rat Dead
Kazuya Takasu, Dyes Iwasaki, Camellia, a_hisa, Zizz Studio
Drain
Mad Heart
Underground Hug
Kind of Hope
The electro-swing vibe of most of the soundtrack contributes a lot to the game's punkish charm.

5. Hades
Darren Korb
Good Riddance
Lament of Orpheus
The Unseen Ones

6. Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Hidenori Shoji, Yuri Fukuda, Chihiro Aoki, Saori Yoshida
Yokohama Battle Theme
Substory Battle Theme
Cold-Blooded

7. Hylics 2
Chuck Salamone
Xeno Arcadia
That's A Big Stick
Fancy Meat Computer
Salamone lends a professional quality to the soundtrack while still retaining the prog-rock vibe of the original.

Honorable Mention
moon: Remix RPG Adventure
Hirofumi Taniguchi, Miki Higashino, Taro Kudo, Masanori Adachi
I'm Waiting for the Night
The Other Jet
Kera-Ma-Go
Apparently each of the moondiscs that you can set up in a playlist while exploring were contributed by a different Japanese indie band. The full OST has an incredible range as a result.

Rising Up

A remarkable OST created by several people that not only lives up to the high praise of it's predecessors but actually comes close to matching them. Truly special

2. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
Bury the Light (Boss version)
Devils Never Cry HR/HM ver DMC5 SE mix
Wake Your Fury (Vergil mission start)

Bury the Light is so fucking good, I don't even care they remixed it like in 4 different ways. The boss version is my favorite. This one track was almost the entire marketing campaign for the game lol

3 Nioh 2
Yugo Kanno, Akihiro Manabe

My favorite game over music full stop and William is fantastic as is Azai Nagamasa.

  1. Paper Mario: The Origami King -- Yet another Paper Mario game with a fantastic OST. Origami King has a dazzling quality and variety of music to match the game's immense range of locales, action, and mood. Keeping pace with the game's madcap action and emotional story moments is a tall order, but managing that across a variety of musical genres and packing in some really impressive dynamic compositions (such as the "thinking" combat theme variations that seamlessly fade in and out every single turn) just feels like showing off. Origami King is an easy choice for my favorite soundtrack in 2020.
    Chestnut Valley
    Exploring Shogun Studios
    Disco Devil
    Purple Streamer Battle
    Origami Castle
    Ending
  2. Hades -- The Hades OST didn't really come as a surprise, considering much of it was available through the early access period. We'd already heard a lot of the chill character tracks, chthonic combat themes, ethereal vocals, and (of course) that killer theremin, but this is the year they all get recognized. Hades is another in a growing line of amazing Supergiant soundtracks courtesy of Darren Korb, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. I particularly appreciate the audacity of a composer writing himself in as the voice of Orpheus and absolutely nailing it.
    No Escape
    Scourge of the Furies
    Lament of Orpheus
    Last Words
    In the Blood
  3. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity -- Like the first Hyrule Warriors game, Age of Calamity has a fun blend of original and remixed music, and all of it is high quality. The overall effect is almost more like Breath of the Wild meets Fire Emblem; perfect for marathon battles with the game's extensive cast of familiar characters.
    The Champion Mipha
    The Champion Revali
    With Power Awakened
    Hold the Line
    Push Forward
  4. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition -- While Xenoblade Definitive Edition included a fully remastered version of Xenoblade's classic OST, I'm only considering the original tracks for the Future Connected epilogue for this list. Smaller in scope that Xenoblade 2's Torna DLC, Future Connected nevertheless has a complement of great tunes for Shulk and Melia's continuing adventure. I absolutely love the trend of off-genre combat themes in Xenoblade add-ons.
    Time to Fight!
    Bionis' Shoulder
    FogBeast Battle
  5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- The New Horizons OST delivers nonstop good vibes and relaxation. The hourly themes are clear standouts, but the main theme is one of the best tracks from any game this year.
    Welcome Horizons
    11AM
    1AM
  6. Spelunky 2 -- Catchy tunes for various exotic locales and the monsters who live there. Considering how hard Spelunky 2 is, it's a good thing the starting area theme is so good.
    Dwelling
    Wet Fur II
    Mother
  7. Shantae and the Seven Sirens -- Fun, chippy compositions as per usual for the Shantae franchise.
    Beach Travel East
    Sunken Shipyard

Honorable Mention

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers -- It's not eligible for the ballot this year, but FF14 continues to rack up an ever-increasing list of absolute killer music even in its off years. The Shadowbringers main story and Eden raid series both completed in 2020, and the musical accompaniment for both events was absolutely stellar. I've got my fingers crossed that we get an expansion with a whole new OST in 2021.
Return to Oblivion
Where All Roads Lead
To the Edge

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake
The obvious pick but this is such a labor of love for the original soundtrack from everyone involved. The arrangements are done with great care and respect to the originals, everyone is extremely mindful of what Final Fantasy VII means to the fanbase. I swear the new orchestrations just hit the right notes every time. And there is some great stuff among the new compositions too! I don't think I have ever, in my life, seen musical production values of this sort for a JRPG. The massive breadth, variety and overall level of quality in the score never lets up. One example is the myriad of variations on the classic FF7 battle theme, ensuring it never gets old. Frankly, the nostalgia levels for this game are off the goddamn charts, I can't in good conscience pick anything else as my top spot. There is such an absurd wealth of riches that a second 4-disc soundtrack had to be released to supplement the original 8-disc release. An absolutely don't sleep on the banger of the year, Stamp's theme (yes, really). BOW WOW WOW.
On Our Way
Let The Battles Begin! -A Merc's Job
The Airbuster
The Valkyrie
Smash 'Em, Rip 'Em
Ghoul
Midnight Rendevous
Stamp

2. Streets of Rage 4
Living up to the legendary 16-bit creations from Yuzo Koshiro seemed like a nigh-impossible objective, but somehow, they did it.
Main Theme
They're Back
Chow Time
Rising Up

3. Hades
Just absolutely wonderful, has some of all-time favorite vocal songs I've heard in a video game. Darren Korb has a really beautiful falsetto, I gotta say.
Lament of Orpheus
Good Riddance
In the Blood
The Unseen Ones

4. Ghost of Tsushima
Exceptionally moving and at times exhilarating. Impeccably produced.
Shurai
Seiki

5. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Magical, just like the first game.
Main Theme
Shriek and Ori

6. Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
If Personal 5 Royal is admissible, then I imagine there's nothing wrong with nominating this one too. :P SFV is personally one of the secret best gaming soundtracks of the generation, and Champion Edition adds a few new bangers.
Ring of Power
Theme of Lucia
Ring of Justice
Holly Jolly Beatdown

Came to the thread just to vote for FFVII Remake. Aerith's Theme, played during Cloud and Aerith's rooftop stroll, is the first game track that made me cry for several minutes. Unfortunately I couldn't find any official video to link here.

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake
This game is chock full of A+ arrangements of FFVII's already all-time classic soundtrack. To the point that even just the jukebox arrangements could go head to head with other full releases for soundtrack of the year!
Tifa's Theme (Jukebox ver.)
The Oppressed (Jukebox ver.)
Main Theme of FFVII (Jukebox ver.)
On Our Way (Jukebox ver.)
Cosmo Canyon (Jukebox ver.)

2. Hades
Suprise! A Supergiant game has a fantastic soundtrack! Shocking, I know. Seriously though, it's saying something that hours and hours of playtime, doing tons and tons of runs and I'm still not tired of the music.
On the Coast
Out of Tartarus
God of the Dead

3. Them's Fighting Herds
The little fighting game that could. Simply listing tracks here doesn't do the game justice with how well they mix the themes and instruments based on the characters picked, essentially giving each match up it's own theme!
Title Theme
Training Stage
The Prairie (Arizona's Stage)

EDIT: Seeing Andrew J's post reminded me that Cindered Shadows came out last year and is eligible, so I'm stealing his links because Three Houses rules and the music of Cindered Shadows is a fantastic addition!

4. Fire Emblem: Three Houses: Cindered Shadows
Woven by Fate
The Shackled Wolves (Rain · Thunder)
At What Cost? (Rain · Thunder)

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake

My only vote; the only 2020 soundtrack I've listened to extensively. Wow, is this amazing! All the battle theme remixes are mindblowing, as is the Midgar motorcycle chase music. I loved this game when I first played it (the Japanese original as an intermediate college student; built my reading ability right up) but came to love other SE RPGs more. But the remake might be the single best SE OST of the past decade.

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake
Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Mitsuto Suzuki, Shotaro Shima, Yoshitaka Suzuki, Yoshinori Nakamura, Tadayoshi Makino, Yasunori Nishiki, Keiki Kobayashi, Takafumi Imamura, Daiki Ishikawa, Tsuyoshi Sekito, Ayumu Murai, Nozomi Toki

Boss Themes:
Crab Warden
The Airbuster
Hell House
J-E-N-O-V-A - Quickening [Final Phase]

General:
Midgar, City of Mako
The Promised Land - Cycle of Souls
Hollow Skies
Let the Battles Begin! - The Hideout
Wall Market - Chocobo Sam
Due Recompense
Smash 'Em Rip 'Em

(I wanted to post 10+ more tracks lol.)

I can't get over how good this soundtrack is. Its soaring heartfelt energy, its joyful variety, its delightful enhancement of every scene, every familiar area, every astonishing boss fight. It's hard not to dissolve into a stream of hyperbolic praise, because this music is such a powerful example of how to take the emotional palette of a classic game that is embedded in the collective psyche of a generation of players and bring it back to vivid life, better than ever before.

Not only does FF7R's soundtrack reprise major themes from the original in a way that perfectly captures their essence while heightening their nostalgic potency, but it's full of bold creative remixes and new additions that absolutely slap. This music makes the scenes and settings pop with personality and tap into the full array of feelings from the original game. It makes you fall in love with the characters and the story all over again. And don't even get me started on the spectacular boss themes, which are easily the best in the medium since Metal Gear Rising.

What the composers achieved here is nothing short of extraordinary. They didn't merely remake the FFVII soundtrack for the modern ear. They used players' memories of the original to add little wisps of suggestion, hinting at the events to come. The music is peppered with subtle references to character arcs and origin stories, places and times we haven't seen in the Remake, yet we know well from the classic game. It's a remarkable thread of purposeful design that confirms this brilliant soundtrack was tailor made by and for passionate fans of Final Fantasy VII.

1. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero
(Falcom soundteam_JDK Masanori Osaki, Saki Momiyama, Takahiro Unisuga, Hayato Sonoda)

Like Trails in the Sky FC, Zero hits this wonderful trinity of sound. Going from the sophisticated sounds of the city with Afternoon in Crossbell (Leslie speakers!) and Geofront, to the comforting exurbs with Lemonade In Hand and The Mining Village of Mainz, to the mysterious ambience from the lore's supernatural edge from Between the Forgotten Phantasm and Ancient Pulsation, the soundtrack never skips a beat with a subtle strength.

2. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
(Basiscape Hitoshi Sakimoto, Mitsuhiro Kaneda, Yoshimi Kudo, Rikako Watanabe, Yukinori Kikuchi, Kazuki Higashihara, Asuza Chiba)

Yo this is mad Zero Escape and very very Prog. So good to have another brick thrown at Sakimoto haters.

Mornin', Sunshine

High Alert

Mutual Telepathy

(TRYPTOPHAN)

qE103oN.jpg

3. Horizon's Gate
(apparently rights-free stuff)

I think this crowd uses the same free music for most if not all their titles. That's cool cuz it's got quite a strong take on standard musical genres (I really need to find that Wraele theme which is easily the best).

Deep Woods

Exotic

Minamo 2

Resort 2

Seanchas

HByNixf.jpg

4. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4
(Falcom soundteam_JDK Hayato Sonoda, Takahiro Unisuga, Yukihiro Jindo, Mitsuo Singa)

The worst of Falcom soundtracks are good overall. This soundtrack is quite good. That said, it's very quiet and a bit submissive even in its best tracks.

Twilight Green Passage

Towards That Land

Feel At Home

Crimson Flash Shadow -Radiant Wings-

If you combine the epicness of the two end game dungeon tracks End of Saga and To the Future, you'd have something on the level of the previous game's Spiral of Erebos.

With Our Own Hands!

GKrFGjq.jpg

5. Necrobarista
(Kevin Penkin, Jeremy Lim)

Effervesent, with great production values, and all-around snappy, this soundtrack complements the game's quick-moving narrative with charm.

Spill The Coffee

Confluence

Sunrise in Limbo

Njx8SZ8.jpg

6. Streets of Rage 4
(Yuzo Koshiro, Olivier Deriviere, Keiji Yamagishi, Groundislava, XL Middleton, Harumi Fujita, Motohiro Kawashima, Yoko Shimomura, Scattle, Das Mörtal)

A really damn good compilation and alot more melodic than rhythm, oddly.

It's hard to whittle it down to just a few examples as the game has over 4 CDs with roughly 120 songs many completely different genres of music. Not to mention most songs have different versions in-game depending on what you are doing and they also encompass a number of different composers. It's bonkers how much they crammed into this game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake - Not much to say that hasn't been said before. The OST is a great mix of respecting and honoring the original FFVII OST while bringing new and interesting music to the table as well.
