Agreed that it is possible, but not convincing especially given how dire things are around the country.Possible, but it's not that quick. It's been 5 days. Infections have been seen to become contagious in as little as 2 days.

She became symptomatic, and a rapid test administered today returned a positive result. It's 5 days basically RIGHT now. Usually the turn around on a PCR test is minimum 24 hours and probably more like 48.
Because they're not pretendingWhy do this behind closed doors? I mean I get doing it on tv and at rallies cuz of the obvious reasons but why pretend to believe the bullshit they spew to their followers in private behind closed doors? Aren't these republicans more informed than the average insurrectionist?

She does not yet have the results of a PCR test.
She is among those who received the initial dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Virialism goes terrorist.
Yeah, I'm no expert, but the vaccine isn't some magic cloak of invulnerability. I thought it protects against severe symptoms, but it doesn't prevent catching it, testing positive and spreading the virus. Also people are forgetting that at least with the Pfizer vaccine it was only shown to be 95% for reducing severe disease, not testing positive.
Not enough data I think:Do we have data about how effective 1 dose is at reducing severe infections that might need treatment in a hospital?
Hopefully even at 1 dose, most don't get sick enough to need treatment in a hospital.
Hm looking into that, I found this article. Somewhat matches up with what you said.I thought first dose was around 60-80 percent effective if you were around the time of getting the 2nd dose, ie 3 weeks out
I could be wrong though
The right answer, in other words, depends on science we haven't yet completed. For one, the protection from a single dose of Pfizer's vaccine hasn't been definitively tested. Scientists can only infer from the trial data that Pfizer's vaccine would provide protective antibodies to roughly half of people who get one dose.
But Dr. Chris Gill, an infectious disease specialist at Boston University, points out that a single injection of Pfizer's vaccine may be even more effective than this estimate suggests. Looking at data from a smaller window between the time the first injection should have started working and before the second injection kicked in, Gill says the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine may have an efficacy rate as high as 80 or 90% with just a single dose.
Moderna actually collected data from people who only received one dose of its vaccine, Gill says. Some 2,000 participants in Moderna's phase three clinical trial received just a single injection of either a placebo or the vaccine. In that population, the efficacy of the single vaccine dose was roughly 80 to 90%.
"[Moderna] was not shy about showing that a single dose was so effective, and they do the math right," Gill says. "After 14 days, the [single dose] vaccine is remarkably effective."
It also isn't effective the second you get the shot. Although I have no idea when she got her first dose.Yeah, I'm no expert, but the vaccine isn't some magic cloak of invulnerability. I thought it protects against severe symptoms, but it doesn't prevent catching it, testing positive and spreading the virus.

Omar should just quit America and move north already
"We have really based our priorities on burden of illness, so people who have died most of the disease or have been most touched with complications, and frontline health-care workers, as well as Indigenous communities and remote communities. Political leaders are not part of these groups," said Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh, chair of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) in an interview on CTV's Question Period.
"When there's a time for healthy people in their 40s to get their vaccine, when it's our turn, I will be as close to the front of that line as I can get," Trudeau told CP24 television. "I am super enthusiastic about getting vaccines, and I certainly want to show people that they're safe and that we trust our doctors, but there's a lot of vulnerable people who need to get these vaccines much quicker than I will, and we're going to make sure that they get it first, because that's the priority."
Yeah, I think leading by example and showing the vaccine is safe is that's the most important effect of having political leaders get the vaccine early.Omar should just quit America and move north already
Politicians not prioritized for early COVID-19 vaccine doses
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other political leaders of all levels will be waiting their turn to receive a COVID-19 vaccine like most other Canadians.www.ctvnews.ca
The impression I get is that Americans trust their government, and vaccines generally, a lot less so that's at least one reason why the government wants to show their leaders getting vaccinated.
It's a principled stance, consistent with how Omar operates. She probably loathes the implication of young, healthy congresspeople being prioritized before millions of genuinely vulnerable Americans, regardless of the optics of congresspeople demonstrating the safety of the vaccine. The two shots she would have gotten isn't going to really make difference at all. She should have gotten vaccinated.
Her political instincts have never been what I'd call the best.

Should have told them to mask up or take their chances with the rioters.
I'm glad Canada is prioritizing those in need. This might manifest as an active bias and possibly influence how I perceive Omar's decision here. Accordingly, unable to evaluate Omar's actions and political acumen objectively, I will remove myself from the conversation. Her political instincts have never been what I'd call the best.

Isn't it amazing how in a thread about fuckers not wearing a mask and potentially being responsible for contaminating a 75 years old person, we have people trying to derail it with Ilhan Omar something something

Yeah you might want to not use ableist slurs
I mean thanks for fixing it but it is a slut not can be seen as one, just so ya know for next time, but appreciate you removing it without drama :)Now that I look at it I see why someone might see of part of that as a slur, though that couldn't be further from my intention. Fixed either way though.
