That's it Era, that's the post.

Who knows what Konami will or wont do with their grab bag of franchises after Contra rightful blew up in their face.
But it's safe to say, we'll probably see Metal Gear...something eventually. Which I'm sure we're all feeling uneasy about.
However, I just want a real basic odds debate. What do you think era? We gonna get another entry in the magnificent
sword combat spin off Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance?

It's a miracle the first one happened and was as good as it was.

Konami will NEVER do it.

And Metal Gear has no future.

I didn't care for it but I had hoped for a sequel anyway because I know that a lot of people really enjoyed it.

It's likely never going to happen.

Nah. It's not happening.

It doesn't need a sequel either. Not everything has to have a sequel.

In my mind, this is the most tactful way to continue the series. I don't think Kojima would ever be directly involved in a hypothetical sequel, although I also get the feeling that Platinum senior management would want to get Kojima's approval to take the project on themselves.

I think it's perhaps still unlikely, and maybe they'll just do some kind of MGS6 without Kojima and all the other staff that left, or maybe remakes, but I wouldn't rule it out.

It is a shame, too, since Platinum did an incredible job of this game, given it was a salvage job in the first place. I can only imagine how good they could make a sequel when built from the ground up to be an MGR game. Especially if they were able to implement the cut features like increased mobility options like wall-running and such.

Still the best Metal Gear imo.

Maybe the right way to do it would be to get everyone hyped up to play another game as the complete badass Raiden, but then to subvert your expectations less than an hour into the game, you end up having to play as Solid Snake.

Edit: footage of the wall running mechanic from before release, which sadly had to be cut

That's my question as well. If Platinum feels particularly good about it, I suppose they could pitch it?
Cause I can't imagine Konami being the first to bring it up.
Feels like whatever bad blood there is between Konami and Kojima, Platinum wouldn't want to insert themselves in the middle of it. Platinum seniour management (as far as all outwards signs indicate) have a good professional and even personal relationship with Kojima, and I think out of respect they wouldn't want to take over his baby without him at least informally signing off on it. Kojima personally selected Platinum to salvage Metal Gear Rising, and they already have enough projects in the pipeline and are in demand enough that they wouldn't really need or want to sour things between themselves and Kojima just to make a sequel. Maybe Kojima would be cool with it, maybe not, but I do think that would be a factor.

Unless Konami wanted to do a sequel without Platinum's involvement, but I can't think of any other studio I'd want to take the reigns.

I feel like a sequel could really expand on the "cut everything" system. Especially on next gen. The version that ended up in Revengeance was pretty tame with pieces almost instantly disappearing.

It depends on Platinum's schedule or on what the current team at Konami will do since Metal Gear Solid Rising's script by Etsu Tamari is still unused, and I'm sure Korekado would want another crack at it considering: he inherited the producer role after the original producer mysteriously left the project and Kojima wouldn't give them an extension. Either team that does, Platinum or the old KojiPro, Rising is in good hands with people who care for the project. I think Yoko Taro or Takahisa Taura would make excellent Director for the project.

While that would be very cool. It's not enough to justify a sequel though.

There won't be.

Do I wish I was wrong? Absolutely. But I just don't see it happening.

Though I'll be honest, a Rising 2 would have a whole hell of a lot to live up to. The OST is nigh perfect already and it would take an absolute mastermind of a writer to top the incredibly amazing lightning in a bottle that was General Armstrong.

Revengeance was a planets aligning miracle. The fact it exsits at all is something I'm extremely grateful for. A sequel would be lovely but it's never going to happen.

You're lucky to have the first one at all. Especially at that high of a quality.

If Kojima and/or Sony buys the Metal Gear IP from Konami, then yes it's possible. But currently as it is, no. Question is if Kojima cares enough to do it, just move on to what he wants to do.

As much as I'd love to see an even better version of MGR, it'd be a miracle if it happened. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure platinum would make a good wheelchair bound combat system

I'll just say this.

MGR2 being announced is the only video game announcement that will actually make me lose my shit.

I love the original game so much

I think Konami would happily license out the franchise to another publisher for the right price.
But they won't pay a penny themselves towards developing a new Metal Gear game.

So we'd need another publisher to pay Konami for the license, then pay for development and then hope the game sells well enough to make a profit. That's money that could be spent on your own IP instead of being at the mercy of Konami.

It's a one and done, no need to dig this stuff up. Now, get someone to make what it was actually supposed to be (Metal Gear Rising), then I'd be interested.

kinda weird to see this thread today because just a few days back (due to Ghost of Tsushima), I caught myself on youtube watching the Metal Gear Solid: Rising reveal:

I know the platinum game is different and is what this thread is about, but I'm still intrigued by that initial concept

How the fuck has Konami not port this game, it's like how Capcom hasn't ported Viewtiful Joe.
