I haven't listened to this week's episode yet (*gasp* No one is playing Xenoblade?! :p)
Loved the episode with Jonathan Metts. I hope he comes back more often
I think it came out as we were recording. I've resigned myself to getting to it. Just not quite yet.
I listen to the show while exercising and the cussing actually helps with my lifts... except when the guys say something funny. Then it doesn't help at all.I really like this show, I do. My only wish is they would tone down the language.
It's hard to listen to this casually when there are so many unnecessary four-letter words sprinkled in for what seems like no reason at all.
This show is great. It would be better minus the incessant cursing
You're not the first person to bring this up. I've floated the idea of making the show PG-rated as a way to improve our numbers. All I can say is we're listening, so people who feel this way, speak up.I really like this show, I do. My only wish is they would tone down the language.

Thank you for the perspective, Guillaume! You're all great on the show, and I think it's safe to say a lot of people love what you four are doing every week keeping us entertained during this crazy time. You're not the first person to bring this up. Of course, as the editor, I'm kind of setting myself up for doing more work. I would have been sad to get rid of that pegging joke in the last episode, however. Although, if as a parent you can't find a way to insist forcefully on the only definition being "to see someone a certain way", it's not my problem, haha.
The Gaur Plains theme playing while Jon talked about XCDE was great. It put me right there.I only just finished the episode from last week (turns out it's harder to find time to listen to podcasts when you previously listened to them while commuting and now don't go outside) but I'm a big fan of occasionally playing music/sound effect clips while talking about a game.
Also "if you plan to fail, you will succeed" when talking about not letting the urge to 100% a game ruin it for you is wisdom that will stay with me for a long time.
I've been blowing through this game and enjoying it quite a bit, but I couldn't help but feel that something was slightly off. On a particularly hard moon that caused me to lose a ton of coins, I was starkly reminded of Warioland 3, and then it kind of all came together. This game would have fit perfectly as a logical 3D iteration of the GBC/VB/GBA/Wii series.
The transformations
The focus on currency and collectibles
The crazy clash of art styles
The relatively minimalistic music
The minigames
The Game and Watch cameos
The focus on meticulous exploration
The de-emphasis of time limits, speed, and skillful platforming (generally)
The punishment through tedium (You're not really dinged for messing up platforming. The punishment is that you have to climb back up to the top of the tower, hunt down the enemy to transform to, whatever).
The threatless enemies that are more part of the puzzle design than anything
Obviously it's still a Mario game, and is packed full of Mario references and gameplay, but I definitely feel a strong connection to the Warioland series here with some of the gameplay decisions they landed at. In the end, it kind of made me sad that there was so much crossover, as it seems there's even less of a reason for a new Warioland game to exist now. Anyone else feel similarly playing through?
As an Australian I am highly upset at one Mister John Linderman and would like an apology ASAP
On the one hand, we do live in a hot, tinder-dry environment filled with venomous eldritch horrors not found elsewhere that does regularly catch fire on top of paying some of the highest prices for video games in the world, but on the other hand we can go outside most places without fear of a deadly plague, so it's kind of a wash.As an Australian I am highly upset at one Mister John Linderman and would like an apology ASAP
That was a fantastic episode. Highly enjoyed it! I loved the interview with Syrenne; you don't often hear these kind of interviews with someone who's so intimately familiar with the design, development and also production of video games so the way she described working on Manifold Garden really gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to work on a multi-platform indie title.
something something "can we play the ds version for the retrospective"
