Countdown star Rachel Riley is facing calls to be sacked after she edited a photo of Jeremy Corbyn at an anti-apartheid protest and accused the Labour leader of being "racist".
The TV star prompted an online row after she posted a photo of herself wearing a t-shirt adorned with an image of Mr Corbyn.

In the image on Riley's clothing, the Labour leader is seen being escorted by two police officers with a placard hung from his neck that reads: "Jeremy Corbyn Is A Racist Endeavour."

The image has been edited from an original photograph, which pictured Mr Corbyn being arrested at an anti-apartheid protest in London in 1984 during his first year as an MP.

In the unedited photograph, Mr Corbyn's placard reads: "Defend The Right To Demonstrate Against Apartheid Join This Picket."

Statistically there was exact same level of anti-Semitism in the labour party under Blair, no one seemed to give a shit then. Anti semitism is deplorable and should be stamped out where ever it's found but the double standard is unbelievable.

It's a fucking stupid image to use and it should be condemned and she should apologise for it.

But I struggle to see a lot of hand wringing online as being in good faith.

All the lads with rose emojis in their usernames who have stayed absolutely silent or dismissive about the well-dcoumented anti-semitism ("no it's anti-zionism!") issue in the Labour Party have been gearing up for some revenge for some time because she's been heavily involved in raising the issue.

Corbyn could come out tomorrow and confess to every single thing Riley has accused him of and it still wouldn't make that image on her t-shirt right or justified. It's a very gross thing to display, even if she was doing it with 100% good intentions.

Celebrities and twitter don't mix. When will they learn.
They won't sack her.

She should be sacked. But I doubt it'll happen anyway.
Disgusting person.

Imagine editing a picture of a man protesting apartheid for this shit.

I think she should probably get into trouble for tweeting that a labour candidate was fined for being anti-semitic, he wasn't he just had the same name as someone who did, he lost his seat. she is entitled to dislike Corbyn but she needs to take responsibility for her mistakes.

It's genuinely one of the most repulsive developments in this whole saga to date. Watching a white woman make a mockery of an anti-racist campaign and black struggles in order to propagate cheap, cynical smears of a politician makes my stomach fucking heave. She's become the centrist Katie Hopkins.

This was also within 24 hours of the separate twitter hot takes, from other people, that 'Corbyn's pronunciation of Epstein was antisemitic' and 'Corbyn referencing A Christmas Carol was antisemitic'. The bad faith has become so brazen and obvious at this point.

Please, by all means, show me this documentation. So far, all actual investigations have shown levels of anti-Semitism in the Labour party to be at or below those of society in general, and it has one of if not the most robust systems of any party in place to investigate and punish claims.
So far, all I've seen is a tiresome smear dragged out to beat the left and yes, stifle criticism of Israeli war crimes.

There's two things to take into account here.

1) Rachel Riley absolutely receives anti-semitic and misogynist abuse for being a public personality who speaks out.

2) She is also the fucking worst.

This.

She fucked up, she should just apoligise for being insensitive. I don't think she should get fired, she should just be more careful in the future.

The best thing about the shirt is how it was edited from a photo when he was arrested for protesting against apartheid. I can totally get why she's strongly outspoken against antisemitism. (and rightly so, it has no place anywhere) but this really isn't it chief.

Corbyn has been sluggish on the issue, but yeah he has toughened and sped up procedures to deal with it, so was New Labour an even worse hotbed of anti-semitism.

Hope she gets sacked, her considered response to Labour's/Corbyn's inaction to anti-Semitism was wholly inappropriate.

As a public figure there's no free pass as what she decided to do wasn't off the cuff...

Jeremy Corbyn is a sack of shit and the "there's no problem here" Baghdad Bob stuff re: anti-semitism is horrible.

But that doesn't stop this from being in incredibly poor taste.

I don't understand how her pinned comment proves Corbyn is racist. We're in batshit country, there's no hope for this country. I had my sister today just say I don't trust Corbyn because he supports the IRA.

She is white washing black history, she deserves far more than just being condemned. Seeing as she doubled and tripled down afterwards.

Surely it's for the company to decide if they want the bad PR ect. Why do the public and people here act like they get the call on a famous persons punishment by them getting the sack? Wholly bizzare ...

She is getting a lot of stick, but at least she's been able to rally support from like minded individuals such as Katie Hopkins.

This is one of the most successful smear campaigns ever.

Like the Tories aren't a hotbed of racism, bigotry, classism, etc... jfc

So many times before this photo made it to twitter where her brain should have said "Hey, ummmmm this might not be the best idea".
If she wants to continue this twitter crusade (and a lot of the stuff she stands against is great) she needs to hire some PR people to watch over her. This isn't the 1st time she's fucked up after all that shit with falsely accusing someone because they had a similar name to a racist.

This has been months in the making. One could almost make a guess now it's part profile boosting.

People credibly working on calling out hatred don't do stupid things like this.

Then double down.

She is quite odd in taking Corbyn hate to crazy levels, don't think this is her first time either so I'm not sure what her game is.

The T-Shirt is shocking, no idea what kinda bubble she lives in but it's a very bad look and inexcusable.

Ok I am an outsider, but she is Jewish, and Corbyn has not been known for lets say great opinions.

She's coming across as obsessive, borderline unhinged. Her reasoning skills appear to have been pushed aside and replaced by blind hatred for Corbyn.

She identifies as being Jewish but what exactly started this obsession of hers over Corbyn in particular? Had she been emotionally abused in the past for being Jewish, maybe as a child for example?

She really needs to take a few steps back and look at some facts instead of raging all of the time. Some introspection over this recent issue would be a good idea too. She's also due to have a baby soon, I can't imagine her stressing out over this is going to help the health of her unborn child, let alone Riley herself.

She lives in the rich and privileged bubble. These people live in another world entirely from the rest of us. Not that it excuses it at all, she deserves to be heavily criticised and lose her very cushy job.

The same bubble in which you can freely lie, smear and bullshit your way to political power and face little to no consequences. The whole country is a fucking dumpster fire and no doubt we are about to vote in another 5 years of austerity. We've reached peak ''fuck you got mine''.

Yes although ironically no one gets theirs either way unless they are the top 1%. We are a very smart country.
