Yeah, I'm a bit tired already and lately I even didn't even tried to go to XC2 threads anymore. The most surprising thing about this thread is that even after three years of updating my ignore list with hot-takes-users and irrational hatred for Xenoblade series, I keep on getting more and more free embarrassing stuff. Talk about people not moving on...
On topic, I don't play Smash, but I'm happy that Xenoblade has finally more characters in it! Elma is next!!!
I'm so dang happy to see Pyra + Mythra in Smash. The characters look excellent and the music is something to look forward to, most definitley.
Your thoughts, particularly the bolded, speak volumes to how you view representation, not others. *Most* people who want black characters aren't interested in just "checking a list". They want cool and positive representation of black people in games.
Black folks have wanted a black character in Smash bros for years. At least over a decade. Requests have been around since Brawl discussions and have only gotten louder in recent years. An when the opportunity of a popular and cool black character was missed, folks were met with "oh we already have a minority character."
And that feels like a fucking checklist. "The minority box was checked, so stop complaining, black people."
Look, I don't have any issue with Min Min, as a character or as minority representation, and if people feel they are represented through her, I think that's great. However, I have never seen such discussion of her ethnicity as representation until Twintelle appeared to be a viable choice as a fighter. People were suddenly talking about her Chinese background when others expressed any sort of disappointment about the most likely chance of having a black character in Smash being lost. The discussion felt like a cudgel to shut black people up. And that's not what representation in media is about. It's not about cancelling one minority group out with another. It ain't a minority checklist. It's about listening to groups when they speak up.
Black and brown Smash players have been speaking up for years. They haven't been heard.

Just when you think there's no hope for a XC2 character, they pull this on us. I'm glad this is the choice they went with instead of fucking Rex. I'm surprised they're going with a transforming character since Zelda/Shiek was split up. And more Xenoblade series music in Smash is definitely welcome.
I guarantee you he would use a sword with his bow. He can promote to Lord and uses one in a cutscene. If you want unique movesets, Dimitri ia the safest bet since I don't recall him ever using one in a cutscene, unlike the rest.
But this is a Pyra/Mythra topic and I don't want to derail beyond my general issues with Smash's decisions
Capcom/Bamco/SNK/NRS/ASW would be crucified if their positions were switched with Smash's.
I feel you choose to ignore that unlike them this is a crossover game which is highlights a different issue of not giving brown or black skinned people main roles in games

No, but that's likely the sole outlier due to Dragon Ball being devoid of melanin beyond Uub. Plus it's still crucified for the lack of women of the few options that exist.

This was such a good trailer. I was so happy the whole time. I could have literally been staring at a black screen for the rest of the direct and still came out satisfied.

There are plenty of woman fighters that could be added over Yet Another Goku but that game gets a pretty big pass because it's from a franchise people love.

Glad we are getting some Xeno 2 characters since I enjoyed my time with the game (despite thinking some of those designs were ridiculous), but man that fake out was too real. I was hoping for Xeno 3 or Xeno 2 expansion... :(
Ganondorf is the incarnation of evil and has a sickening green tint to his skin color half the time. I think it's perfectly fair for people to demand better.
He's also inhuman to the point of being green-tinged.

Please ignore those misoginyst comments, they have never play the game and they think those characters are sexual dolls becouse of the looks. They are the worse kind of misginyst ppl like a white knight in disguise.
There's no perfecting or not perfecting, my favorite Smash remixes take a song and throw it into a completely different style. I love when you get a song that's just a completely different genre or feel. That's the importance of varied arrangers.
I don't want the Smash remixes to just sound like more Xenoblade.
I'd love to see some battle mixes for the Gormott or Mor Ardain themes.
Elma would have been a decent rep with no costume alterations needed. A strong, cool-headed Samus Aran type with no fan-service controversy (in her Mim form). Her dual ralzes/gemels from her Xenoblade 2 incarnation would have added a bit of variety. I get that Pyra/Mithra were selected because of popularity, but Elma seemed like an easy choice.

As much as I would love more people that look like me in Smash, the last thing I would want is then doing it just to check a box - they, and games in general(but especially them), need to fix their problem of not having more diverse protagonists to choose from(bye Elma) - aside from Urbosa or Marina I don't see any upcoming possibilities to rectify this, and it seems the Urbosa ship may have sailed anyway. Marina too, for that matter, depending on what Splatoon3 does or when the fighter's pass ends.
But yes, I would LOVE this, but this is mostly a Smash issue because it's a Nintendo issue and because they're only pulling from existing characters, not having the luxury of creating PoC characters from scratch (which, to be fair, a lot of fighting games still do just to check the boxes - and it often shows)
The world was a done of fun. All the characters have soo much personality. I wish we got Nia though haha
