I don't know, to me this post seems like a clear case of whataboutism, but what do I know...Games for Windows Live was shut down and at some point the ability to redownload your paid purchased content broke and was never fixed and has been like that for years. Companies are unlikely to invest money to fix things on services that are shutting down or already shut down so we shouldn't expect fixes.
It's not deflection when someone is saying Microsoft has shown they handle this just fine. It's pointing out that it's not true and we shouldn't let Microsoft off scott free in all this let alone forget or even change their history.
History is still history of past behavior. Interest change over time and that's why that service went down and now they're focused on what they are currently. Those interests can change again but we shouldn't forget that Microsoft has not only shut down a store before but has cut off access to paid content. Saying Microsoft is fine in all this is ignoring history.
No my logic is to not excuse or rewrite Microsoft's history in all this and that we should keep things in perspective and be aware how changes in interest, especially when it comes to financials change over time and companies who are no longer financially interested in something tend to move on and shut those things down. Sony is guilty here, but this behavior is not exclusive to Sony and trying to paint that this is only a Sony thing is being blind to the fact that other companies have behaved the same way including Microsoft. Their behavior is consistent with how businesses operate when it involves their financial interest.
PCSX2 isn't a replacement to real PS2 either... a lot of compatibility issues and more importantly huge input lag.All Sony had to do was make PS5 BC with PS3 (and ideally, PS2 and PS1).
RPCS3 is coming along nicely but it's nowhere near ready to be a replacement for Sony hardware like PCSX2 is for PS2.
If third party of emulation is coming along at a decent pace, I don't buy that Sony couldn't do it for the PS5 with the code they have.
Just shitty anti-consumerism and no respect for the large library of games.
Yes I meant the homebrew/hacker community. Thanks. You mean third party as someone on the internet or third party as in Ubisoft?
Because there are quite a lot of PS3 and Vita repositories online with the games and patches. They're just illegal, but they exist.
Obviously the latter is impossible.
Your physical games aren't getting these removed patches/updates either. Doesn't matter where you bought the game.
Probably not for all games, but I'll take minor issues for 4K/60. Don't think I've tried many games that have had big issues so been lucky there.PCSX2 isn't a replacement to real PS2 either... a lot of compatibility issues and more importantly huge input lag.
They're 3ing us from these dirty old games. Thanks Sony.
The 4k is not very good on PCSX2 sadly. The only emulator when I have seen 4k doing wonders is in Duckstation, i wish they made a PS2 emulator because what a beast it isProbably not for all games, but I'll take minor issues for 4K/60. You'd think so wouldn't you?But the game one downloads from the servers is already fully patched, isn't it?
I'm really glad I took the step this generation to purchase all my multi-platform games on Xbox Series X, feels like a safer bet than trusting Sony right now.
Saying that, I had always mentally assumed that buying digital games means I'd no longer be able to access them at some point, but it doesn't soften the blow as much as I thought it would.
My only hope is that preservationists will be able to get all this stuff backed up in time, and we can enjoy all this stuff in the future via preservationist means.
People going "I'm switching to xbox because of this!" puzzle me. Just switch to PC if you really do care... Time and time again the console cycle has proven MS and Sony are out just to fuck with people with leadership changes. If you think your Xbox, PS5 or Switch digital purchases will be available in 20 years, you probably are diluting yourself.
This disaster, if it's what it takes for people to realize it, then maybe it'll be a nessearry evil. In the mean time... Support DRM releases and physical and otherwise.
It obviously doesn't compare to a proper upscale job by a studio, but having just played Fatal Frame 1 & 2 upscaled to 4K, it looked bloody lovely. The 4k is not very good on PCSX2 sadly. Yeah totally. The only game that I know that cant be emulated is Steambot Chronicles, it doesnt even work on PS3 backwardsIt obviously doesn't compare to a proper upscale job by a studio, but having just played Fatal Frame 1 & 2 upscaled to 4K, it looked bloody lovely.
If anyone looks at how PCSX2 can clean up PS2 games, and then the horrible mess that plays on the original hardware, I don't see how you couldn't pick emulation unless that particular game had a lot of compatibility issues.
They probably all were. Probably happend when this did https://www.resetera.com/threads/vi...turn-downtime-24-hours-update-back-up.336987/Do we know if any of these games were having these patch troubles earlier than the recent news?
Could be!They probably all were. Probably happend when this did https://www.resetera.com/threads/vita-downloads-and-file-transfer-dead-for-all-console-owners-currently-no-eta-from-sony-on-if-they'll-return-downtime-24-hours-update-back-up.336987/

I am not sure, but I think this wasn't even the case with PS4 at launch. It got changed later in the generation. Thus I don't think PS3 is downloading the most recent version of a game.
Jim Ryan is a fucking blight. A Cancer that is literally killing and erasing games. Holy shit this dude is pure evil.
In that case instead of owning 1.0 of the game you just can't download the game at all with digital.I told all of y'all physical champions you were vulnerable.
whole lotta 1.0 PS3 games I got no time for
Just embrace the digital. Embrace the ephemeral. Live in the moment. Let go of your earthly possessions. Your desires to own and control.
Accept entropy. Turn yourself over to the heat-death of the universe.
We already had some one in this thread check games with supposed deleted updates and was able to find them from pc. Seems to be just a bug with the ps3 and people are just finding it now with the store closure.Just tested and successfully updated a few more games: Lair (US), GTA IV Complete (US) and Killzone 3 (US).
I'm convinced at this point that this is more some error affecting very few games rather than evidence that Sony is putting patches offline intentionally sans warnings.

They are also disincentivizing physical the most and even the ability to own a digital license as they go heavy towards subscription service. What happens when the only way to play their games is by a subscription and licenses expire for a game? Ex: ForzaUltimately all these companies ( like any for profit corporation) are governed by their financial self-interests.
But with Microsoft, their philosophy is basically trending the polar opposite of Sony. Make as many games possible available on as many devices as possible. Anything can change with future leadership but it's hard to see them retracting from this philosophy years down the line when 'Play anywhere' has become the core principle of their brand.
Sony's messaging right now when it comes to legacy content is very concerning. They're discouraging me from pumping too much more in their ecosystem, meanwhile I have 20 year old original Xbox discs that I can pop into my 1X and play them with improved framerates and resolution. All of this can turn on its head with a leadership change but *right now* I have greater confidence in Microsoft's vision and respect for what I've historically purchased from them.
