I had these in mind for awhile but forgot to put them in the OP because I blanked on them.
5. Avengers flops (or gets delayed)
It just doesn't look good. It definitely has the makings of another Anthem/Fallout disaster. My money is on audiences rejecting it, or Square delays it for another few months.
6. Microsoft introduces their own game launcher
With all the complaining about having to manage separate libraries on separate apps, Microsoft will introduce their own launcher that combines Steam, Epic, Origin, etc. Everybody wins but especially Phil.

Mar- PS5 reveal event. HDZ2 and GT7 trailers shown. Both look amazing. Sony wont say the exact Tflop number because its less than XSX so they will say something like ps5 GPU is 2.5 times stronger than PS4pro. PS5 wont support VRR but "all sony first party games will be 4k 60fps and support raytracing"
TLOU2 comes out, sells very well, GOTY quality but some reviewers score lower for unnecessary/graphic violence.
E3-
MS- Pushing XSX hard. Forza8 and Halo infinate playable. They hype VRR(cause ps5 doesnt have it) DF concludes that Halo and Forza are running at 4k 90 fps on average on XSX. Since these games run on old XBone the games will be criticized by some as "exact same as current-Gen except for resolution and FPS". No mention of Lockheart.
Sony- HZD2 and GT7 playable. They hype "doing things only can be done on Next-Gen"(Cause XSX has no true exclusives)PSVR2 is soft announced will be coming for PS5 in 2021.

ps5 doesn't need to support vrr. It's a simple matter of devs unlocking the framerate with a toggle in the settings and the tv handles the wonky frame rates.
Nintendo
- BOTW2 will get a blowout at e3 but wont release until march 2021. big focus on dungeon's, darker tone, and playable in coop with player 2 playing as Zelda
- Mario Odyssey 2 will release in the fall and will be the highest scoring game of the year. will be received positively by fans who unanimously agree is a step up from the first game
- Bayonetta 3 will be shown at the january direct and released in august or september, with Kamiya having taken over as director. will be considered the best platinum game in years by fans
- SMTV will finally be shown with a 2021 window for a WORLDWIDE RELEASE as nintendo will be helping out with it
- Metroid Prime 4 and Prime trilogy HD will both be no shows
- Hollow Knight Silksong will get an early 2021 release window
- Xenoblade definitive edition will be this years july jrpg from nintendo, no news on future Monolith projects
- a new Paper Mario game will be announced and released in 2020. will be the best received Paper Mario game since TTYD, but not considered to be at the level of that game
- Mario 3D World will come to switch
- No More Heroes 3 and Deadly Premonition 2 will be delayed to 2021, Bravely Default 2 releases in december to solid reviews
- PS5 will beat PS4 launch day sales
- TLOU2 will be the second highest rated game of the year behind Mario. fans will agree that its a step up in gameplay and level design, but will be divided on the story
- Ghost of Tsushima will review similar to Spider-Man. generally well liked outside of forums but will be more divisive on here as some will find the combat, stealth, and open world design to be lackluster
- Demons Souls remake and a new Ratchet and Clank will be the big first party launch titles. Demons will be more of a reimagining, which will upset many
- Godfall will be better than people expect, but largely ignored
- Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and a new IP from Housemarque will be announced at the PS5 reveal event for 2021 releases. HZD2 will go deeper on the RPG side of things than the first game and Housemarque's game will have some weird and unique concept that grabs peoples attention
- Kojima will tease his next game at E3, once again published by sony but not Death Stranding 2
- next God of War will get a teaser at PS5 launch event with no release window
- Sony will acquire Housemarque and/or Bluepoint
- Series X will have a more successful launch than Xbox One but will fall short of PS5
- Halo Infinite won't be as big of a shake up as people expect but will be more in line with the old games and considered the best 343 Halo game yet
- Forza Motorsport 8 and 1-2 AA games from external devs will make up the rest of the launch lineup
- Grounded, Bleeding Edge, and Battletoads will all score similarly to Crackdown 3
- Ori 2 and Tell Me Why on the other hand will score very well, with Ori 2 being better received than the first and Tell Me Why receiving similar acclaim as the first LiS season
- Playground will announce their new Fable at e3 with a trailer that blows people away. fall 2021 release window
- The Initiative will also tease their project at e3 with no release window. will appear to be smaller scale than fans are expecting but will still be intriguing to many
- Everwild will show a glimpse of gameplay later in the year, similar to Monster Hunter (or i guess Dauntless)
- at least 2 of the following studios will be acquired: Asobo Studio, Dontnod, Moon Studios
- MS will acquire a japanese developer, although it will be one that very few lovers of japanese games on other platforms will miss
- Cyberpunk 2077 will be the third highest scoring game of the year, but something about it will cause it to be RDR2 levels of divisive. many will love it, many will hate it
- Elden Ring will finally be shown off for a release in march 2021. will promise to be "the next step forward for From Software" or something which will cause fans to worry they are adding an easy mode, but they won't
- Resident Evil 3 won't be as acclaimed as 2, but rather similar to 7. the game will differ significantly more from the original than 2 did
- Capcom will announce Street Fighter 6 at the PS5 reveal event for a 2021 release, multiplatform this time
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be incredibly divisive, because of course it will. FFXVI will be teased at E3 with Yoshi-P directing and a more traditional fantasy setting. single player
- Fumito Ueda will announce his next game will be published by Bandai Namco and be multiplatform
- Doom Eternal's single player will be hugely loved but the multiplayer will be filled with egregious monetization
- Bethesda will show off Deathloop and Ghostwire at e3, with one of them being a next gen launch title and the other being spring 2021. both will look more GaaS-y than people expect and they will continue the recent trend of Bethesda games turning off their existing fans while failing to find new ones
- Starfield will not be shown
- WB will announce Rocksteady and WB Montreal's DC games and the Harry Potter game, with WB Montreals releasing just before next gen launch and the other 2 being 2021. Rocksteady's game will basically be DC Destiny and get a mixed reaction, while the other 2 are met with more positive reception
- Avengers won't be the disaster that many recent GaaS games have been but won't be as successful as a AAA Avengers game should be
Screw it, I didn't learn my lesson last year, I'm going for it again XD

- No Switch Pro this year. [Good, Nintendo doesn't need an revision]
- Switch Hardware sales starts to decline due PS5/XSX release at holidays.
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a biggest AC game critically and commercially success, become a trending monumental. [Nailed It, this trending stills unstoppable]
- Third Party ports could be surprised for the fans. [Too sadly to bring some third party ports to Switch, but some games looks excited on the hybrid].
- No mainline Pokémon game this year (since 2015). [Correct, we have two DLC's this year with new pokemons and returning dozens of creatures]
- Pikmin 3 & MPT HD Remasters will be released. [Partially Correct, the 2013 port has getting a Switch version this October]
- Nintendo 3DS officially discontinued. [Nailed It, is the End of an Era for traditional handhelds, it was a great run! ='(]
- Bayonetta 3 re-revealed at E3, 2021 release. [Since E3 got cancelled this year, we don't know about Bayonetta 3 news until end of the year or 2021].
- Smash Ultimate brings more third party characters and one of them will be exploded the internet. [Only we have Steve from Minecraft as a third party fighter, this game is a old fashioned most beloved best selling game ever but the kids gonna be loving it.]
- Bravely Default II will be good, NMH3...will be mixed. [Periodically, Bravely Default II and NMH3 were delayed til 2021]
- Mario Odyssey 2 will release this year, GOTY contender. [Despite of COVID, Super Mario are celebrating his 35th Birthday with 3D All Stars, a Battle Royale speedrunning and some spin-off games like Mario Kart Live].
- Switch at 80 million units in total by the end of the year.
- NSO continues to be irrelevant in online infrastructure.
- Metroid Prime 4 currently in development, not showing this year.
Sony:
- PS5, November 20, $399, less powerful than XSX, expect massive bans about the discussion of the performance. [Partially Correct in terms of power/price, but inaccurate release dates (November 12), also we have Digital Edition as Discless console if you believe to playing digital games]
- Sony refuses to going to E3 this year, will be a proper conference at some point. [UPDATE June 11: This presentation was good for me, and Sony did it to reveal several games and his hardware reveal]
- TLOU Part II is better than the original, 96+ MC, will sweep several GOTY's. [Despite of the controversy, this game it could be highly likely Chance to get GOTY Awards by the end of the year.]
- Ghost of Tsushima is received commercially/critical success. [Sucker Punch becomes one of the best developers to create a new IP into a massive hit]
- HZD2 is announced, Spring or Summer 2021. [That's TRUE!, it's Horizon II: Forbbiden West]
- Dreams is critically acclaimed but commercially poorly. [Great, i'd predicted this back in February and actually this game is acclaimed but solds poorly]
- Godfall will be the biggest disappointing launch title, also the year. [I nailed it, an $70 Online-Only action game averaged with Marvel's Avengers was too skeptical by the media reception, i believe that this game also coming to other platforms but is Dead on Arrival, in few years this game is set directly to the graveyard].
- Sony acquires Bluepoint Games. [Sometimes, looks 50/50 between the news to be confirmed or dismissed, shall we in the 2021 prediction thread].
- PS4 Slim/Pro/VR to be price drop ($199/$249/$299) by summer 2020. [I don't see price drop this summer because COVID is an big problem]
Microsoft:
- Halo Infinite will be legendary becoming the best selling game of XSX/XBO, also praised by the critics and an truly GOTY contender. [The game was delayed to 2021 being problematic about the bad optimization, Halo Infinite requires many months to crunching thier mistakes to release at some point on every Xbox console by Holiday 2021, coinciding with the 20th Anniversary.]
- Xbox Game Pass has a best year yet, bringing more titles to the subscription services.
- Xcloud becoming an Killer App.
- Hellblade II will coming in 2021, gameplay reveal at E3. [For two details about the progress of the game after the presentation, we expect this sequel in two or three years]
- Persona 5 coming to Xbox/PC (specially GamePass) for the first time. Sony Fans are shocked and raged.
- Xbox Series S to be launched alongside the X version. [Nailed It, November 10 $200 dollars less than Series X].
- Microsoft acquires Techland and of course... Platinum Games. [Platinum will be self-publishing because Tencent had a minority stake]
- Ori & The Will of Whisp praised by the critics. [Yeah, Moon Studios continues deserve this masterpiece].
- Forza Motorsport 8 revealed, XSX launch title (also coming to Xbox One). [Just Forza Motorsport, and will miss the launch]
Others:
- Half Life: Alyx marking the first AAA VR game to be extremely success both critical and commercial. GOTY contender could be depending. [Okay, HL: Alyx had a great progress over the years create this game to be acclaimed, and the VR sales did it perfect like as hotcakes, probably we have some GOTY's by end of the year, hopefully].
- Stadia stills irrelevant.
- GameStop chapter 13 bankruptcy. [Reggie saved the company by the last minute back in summer, surviving the COVIDpocalypse].

-For Sony/Microsoft year is kind of a repeat of 2013 in terms of game lineups. TLOU2 and Cyberpunk, both released on last gen consoles, dominate the discourse. Next-gen Xbox and PS5 have petty tepid launch lineups this time around but it's pretty well alleviated by BC. Both sell very well day 1.

Xbox Series X will cost more than the PS5 like in 2013. The difference this time is that it will be a lot more powerful and they'll use the lockhart to corner the entry level market. Both will do well imo at launch.

10. PS5 won't have an insane launch-day line-up like people suggesting it'll have, instead, Sony will go on the Nintendo Switch route of promising a steady stream of exclusives (and timed exclusives) spread all across 2021-2022.
New 3DS was massively more powerful than the base model, to the point where it had exclusive games.
Cyberpunk is a smashing success, out reviewing TW3 and selling comparable, if not better, numbers. It is wholly loved for being an original concept and praised as being the RPG Bethesda fans have dreamed of Fallout/Elder Scrolls turning into. The immersive sim, FPS, custom character, branching gameplay and story paths, etc. It's definitely a departure of RPG style from TW3.
The Last of Us Part II proves that a sequel was fine in spite of the people who insist it didn't need one. Druckmann will show that maybe it didn't *need* one but he'll blow our socks off anyways.

The fanboy wars for GOTY between Cyberpunk and TLoU II will be insane. Throw in a little FF7 Remake and if it releases, BOTW 2, and now we're talking. I think those first 2 will be where its' at though. CDPR and Naughty Dog have more fans than any studio out there aside from maybe Nintendo (which is a little cheatsy considering the output and different studios there). People are talking about a Switch Pro with 4K capabilities which would mean a major upgrade over the existing one, even achieving 1080p portable resolution would require a much better GPU. The better CPU in the N3DS allowed for more steady FPS in some games, but Nintendo's marketing for N3DS focused on the improved load times and the eye-tracking 3D IIRC. It did have 2 major exclusives in XC3D and HW:DE but I don't think the same thing will happen for the Switch. In all their business meetings Nintendo keeps reiterating the idea that the goal of releasing a family of devices is to appeal to more people and not necessarily to force existing costumers to upgrade.

Microsoft's 2 tentpole titles will be lined up for Scarlet Launch. Which will be Halo Infinite, and Forza Motorsport (pseudo-reboot). Forza Motorsport adopts a GT sport like GaaS structure, will be updated throught the next gen, with no sequel, until much later on. Halo Infinite will operate similarly.
Playground Games' New RPG will be announced at E3 2020, with a 2021 release window.

Hopefully we're about to get a bunch of new IPs, some of which have big worlds and sci-fi. But I've got a feeling Sci-Fi is Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered lol

I don't think you understand how significant the jump in cpu is alone!

It absoutely is one, and one that seems liklier now than when I made it nearly 2 years ago.
It's also not my wish; I very much would prefer to see new IPs from both the Splatoon and Mario Kart team.
Going from 30 to 60 fps takes a lot of processor grunt. I think people thinking that a boost in CPU and storage speeds will lead to some fundamental change in what games are like will be sorely disappointed, though.
When current gen released, the mobile cpu and gpu were already outdated from the start and yet devs have given us some amazing games.
Next gen has a modern cpu along with gpu and if you think games will look the same but run slightly better, then you are in for a big surprise. I agree that early year 1 (cross) games won't look MUCH better (as they are still developed with current fen in mind), but as soon as next gen exclusives start dropping, you gonna look back at your post and smile
