Title says it all, let's see some of Era users favourite fantasy and sci-fi images. If you know the artist, it would be great if you could post their names too.
I'm sure many here are just like me by inspired by great fantasy art while they grew up. Whether it was game and book covers, posters or illustrations, I could get lost in these fantastical landscapes and scenes as a kid.

I'll start of with one many here will know, Keith Parkinson (sadly passed a way a while ago now) Probably best known in pop culture for his Everquest cover arts.

To me this just screams '70s and '80s fantasy novel covers, I even like the somewhat cheesy way the composition's made up with many the individual characters seemingly doing their own pose regardless of what everybody else in the scene is up to.

He's also known for this piece from Diablo 2

And he has many other pieces too.

For me it doesn't get more evocative than the original Player's Handbook:

But really, all the art in those original editions of that and Dungeonmaster's Guide.

Behold the legendary Frank Frazetta...

I'd post more, guy's catalog is vast and robust, but many pieces feature more than a few scantily clad ladies of magnificent proportions that may be just a bit too NSFW. For lovers of fine art showcasing the majesty of the human form, they're a google search away.

I have art books for Elmore, Parkinson, Frazetta, and Timm. One of the other classic TSR artists, Clive Caldwell, I just couldn't get into, but Elmore and Parkinson made my childhood come to life. There was another, Estes maybe, that was pretty good as well.

Nobody captures the scale, fury and Gothic majesty of the 40k Universe better than Neil Roberts in my opinion.

Not only that, the artwork was really important for something that plays out in a group of peoples imaginations.

John Harris, what a master sci-fi artist damm.

Everything about these reminds me of the covers of my parents novels when I was a kid, being too young to read them I'd just stare at the artwork for ages.

I forgot about this guy, his stuff is insanely original and the on going narrative is fascinating.

Hey, just a small request...can everyone stop quoting their images please. The forum will resize the images for you and it makes it much easier to see them, especially on mobile.

Any Questions

Love this thread. The was this sci-fi art book my dad had and it must of been from the late 70's or early 80's.

I was transfixed looking at it as a kid. Am 40 now and often think of it. Would be amazing to get a copy of it. It was the typical alien scapes with scantily clad women, the odd lizard or dragon getting slayed by some Conan type.

Anybody here who knows if it, or something like it let me know.

Cheers

Wait, how did no one post Moebius
Was gonna be my next one, he was a huge inspiration for the Panzer Dragoon universe and The Fith Element.

Sweet Jesus, are those Space Marines fighting in the vacuum of space?

Yes

No they aren't wearing helmets. Their adaptions actually let them do this for a short period anyway. But this is just Rule of Cool, in the book most of them were helmed.

To be more specific, the unhelmeted one is Roboute Guilliman, one of the Primarchs, immensely powerful beings who were the genetic sources of the Space Marines and somewhat akin to demigods in the lore

Love the futuristic city designs of Don Davis. Always wanted to live in a cool space colony that looked like these.
Blows my mind how we do not have more pieces of entertainment taking place in O'Neil Cylinders/round colonies besides Gundam and Mass Effect's Citadel.

Huge fan of Futurist and Retro Futurism style. Love Syd Mead and all the old works Disney put out when they were doing the original Epcot

Forgot to give another shoutout to John Harris. His stuff is just so great.

Instead of posting yet more Harris, however, I'll post another scifi artist. Love how Joseph Biwald does these cityscapes:

Les Edwards.

I'm pretty sure this image is burned into the memories of every '80's kid here. It is, of course, the cover of the Hero Quest board game.

He also did the cover art for many of the Fighting Fantasy game books.

I'm fond of the 'big three' Tolkien artists and their art is well known so I won't post any examples from them.

Other artists I'm fond of include:
