PC

More options for everything. Games, stores, mods...

Backward compatibility is awesome. I played the first Tomb Raider a few years back in HD. Just download it and it runs in DOS box.

PC - open platform, almost infinite backwards compatibility and better prices on games.

Plus I can use whatever controller I want to. I have it hooked up to my TV and I'm currently using my lapboard (Corsair K63) and mouse to play Cyberpunk. Next game will be with the Xbox Elite controller. And I've got a Neo Geo Pad PS3 for when I want to play something a little older, or a fighting game.

Even ignoring the superior PC graphics, the console experience just doesn't match PC.

Playstation is my primary platform, and it suits my needs just fine.

I also play a lot on PC though which is mainly Steam.

I now own a Switch as well and think the hardware is neat, but I mainly use it for exclusives and a few indie titles.

Don't think I'll ever own a Xbox or subscribe to Gamepass

Still play my Vita, and I like the trophy system more than the achievement system, plus my friends have mostly been on PS4 last gen, so I've been down with the Playstation ecosystem. I'm comfortable with any controller.

Xbox (all multiplats)
Nintendo (all Nintendo exclusives and indies that aren't on Gamepass)
PlayStation (only PS exclusives)

I actually haven't touched my PS5 since finishing Miles, but I do have about $250 waiting in the wallet for something I find interesting.

As long as the port is remotely passable I'd rather game on the Switch over anything else just for the option of portability.

For games that skip the Switch I'll just play them on PC as long as they're not EGSclusive so I can use my Steam controller and add gyro to any game. Free online makes it the main place I'll play multiplayer games on as well.

My PS4 was my main place for third parties but since I built my PC it just collects dust unless I want to play the odd exclusive or vr game. Definitely waiting out on grabbing a PS5 cause it'll probably end up the same way.

PC.
I'll upgrade my hardware how I want, when I want.
And the community makes great mods & lighting reshaders. And there's a true, competitive digital marketplace. And I have my choice of input methods. And, and, and....

Love consoles. But for me, this is a no-brainer.

More options for pretty much everything. Having decades of backwards compatiblity means I won't be having to beg for a port in any future generational change up. I can use any controller I want. Usually easier to get games cheaper because there are actually competing stores within the same ecosystem. Mods ofter the option to fix things up and can give older games a new lease of life.

Also I dont play multiplayer much but there are times I want to give it a try but the console paywall means I never even reach that stage. I'm not risking paying a sub for something I may abandon after a day. On PC I can just dive in and out.

PS5.
I'm a console gamer and I like having my games in one place. Plus it has the most exclusives I'm interested in.
I also prefer trophy hunting over achievement hunting for the platinum.
Plus I love the dualsense.

Switch if it's available on there and runs well (and I don't plan to play with friends), Xbox for everything else. I used to be an Xbox guy through and through but since I got a Switch I really value the portability. I don't take my Switch out of the house though; I just like playing on the back porch or in bed and not being chained to the TV all the time.

I gave xCloud and console streaming a try to replace the Switch but my network doesn't quite hold up and I get small hitches every minute or two. I still use streaming for some Game Pass stuff, but it doesn't work well enough for me to replace my Switch with it.

PC.

Lets me enjoy the games with a far bigger range of flexibility and customization that a console can allow. Platform isn't perfect of course, but if I have a choice, I'll go PC. If there's a game I love and it's getting a late PC port like those Yakuza ports coming out this month on PC, I'll also gladly double dip.

Multi-plat/3rd party games are a big reason I bought my XSX (But GamePass was the biggest reason)

PC. In addition to all the other reasons people have mentioned, the ability to use the steam link app to play on my desktop, tablet, or TV gives me maximum flexibility for when certain screens in my house are otherwise iccupied.

I try to do PC only, cheaper pricing usually and I like the ability to cheat whenever I feel like it on non-multiplayer games and the ability to mod my games. Plus, I have complete control over the graphics vs frame rate rather than 1 or 2 settings (or none) to select from. I have 0 interest in the Microsoft eco-system and I will likely pass on PS5 until a true exclusive comes along that I want to play, ie, potentially God of War.

I play plenty of console games, but I almost exclusively play multiplayer focused games on PC. Since any multiplayer game I'd play is likely a shooter, strategy, mmo, or some kind of survival-craft game, PC just makes more sense.
Community, mods, 144 fps, mouse+keyboard controls, etc.

There are also just a more multiplayer games in general to choose from.

People will claim that PC is overrun by hackers, but in my experience it's extremely rare.

Last gen was Xbox because the One X was getting the best version of pretty much any console game. This gen it will be PlayStation since it seems to be getting the better versions of games so far and I prefer the Dualsense as a controller.

PC via Steam

Multigenerational b/c and the ability to modify the game , play at higher resolution and FPS

That's the reason why I have more games on steam alone than all the consoles and portables I ever owned in the last almost 30 years combined

Currently PlayStation out of habit.

I may reconsider soon. I have PS5 and XSX and though I prefer DualSense for its features and Dpad position the way Xbox treats its backwards compatibility and respects an ongoing digital library is tempting.

It was convenient and pretty easy for PS5 to be BC with PS4, but I have more faith for BC in future Xbox platforms than PlayStation.

Handhelds are my preference. The vita and home console crossplay stuff worked well in the glory days of ps+. That's my preference. Then they ditched handhelds, ps+ went to shit and backwards compatibility didn't turn out as I thought it would. Kinda regret buying into that ecosystem now.

So Nintendo it is by default...well for indies anyway but luckily they're the bulk of what I like.
Think gamepass and caring about older titles/future backwards compatibility might draw me to Xbox to compliment it. If it was just multiplatform it would be a sure thing.

Xbox. Games are cheaper most of the time in there and the only game I play with other people is Apex Legends in the PS4.

Got a PC as well, but haven't bought anything from Steam in almost a year.

Where my friends play. Technically I'm gaming more this current gen on PS5 and my main 2 friends are playing on XBX and PC. We play games that are crossplay.

Eventually we'll all play on the same platform when I get a series X and they manage to find a PS5 or series X/S.

Honestly I don't care about where I play. I care about who I play with. I LOVE IT when games are cross-platform. It's the best. Miss me with that Tribal Bullshit.

Xbox.

Main, top-of-mind reasons:
-It´s where most of my closest gaming friends play. A decade of playing on Xbox has given me a vast, strong network of friends and contacts with whom I play the games I care the most about (Destiny 2, Warframe, Forza, F1, etc.).
-I vastly prefer the Xbox controllers.
-Heavily invested in achievements / saves / services / MS ecosystem in general.
-GamePass has transformed both my gaming life and my economy. I play the same than a significant part of the community at the same time.
-Great BC system. I trust the ecosystem going forward. For playing 30 year-old games, I will always have my work laptop.
-Don´t want to return to PC gaming for a plethora of reasons.
-Not attracted by PlayStation first party offerings. Also, PlayStation is ridiculously expensive here in Argentina (a PS5 AAA game: about 25% of an average monthly income).

Playstation. Xbox lost the position after the 360. PC gaming is too expansive and too much of a headache to be the primary focus. I should stop buying nintendo products, I only end up buying 3 or 4 games for them, a waste really.

I've come to really, really love the Switch and the flexibility it offers in my life and I would buy every game there if I could.

At the same time, my other big concern is long term BC. Like another user said, I would love in 20 years if I could own one console that housed everything I've played. Obviously Xbox is the best bet for BC, and this whole gen I've had zero faith in Nintendo as much as I love them (I didn't even want to buy digital games on Switch). But for some reason, the last few months I just have this feeling now that they might surprise us. They've got a winner with Switch and I'm hopeful we might even make it to a Switch 3, or at least something that carries all the software forward since that may be where the industry is going in general. Or maybe I've just tried to stop worrying about the long term so much.

Of course I'll probably be completely wrong on that Nintendo guess, though.

PC - Always. It is the easiest system by far to ensure backwards compatibility for the money I spend. I don't care to depend on platform holders to deign to let me use my games.

Steam for free online, supports every controllers, no need to worry about backward compatibility issue, faster patch update etc.

consoles are for first party. Except Nintendo Switch which is also for local multiplayer, sometimes indie and visual novels because of portability and that they dont require high end tech requirement to enjoy

I tend to view XBox as my main system. For most modern action games I prefer the controller, but get anything retro based on PS to be able to use the D-Pad. XBox has better commitment to backwards compatibity and likely better performance of older games on next gen systems. Also, most of my collection is on XBox and I'm a bit obsessive about not breaking a series that I started on one ecosystem. That said, I also tend to break easily and buy the game on whichever platform hits sub-20 pounds first.

Xbox
  • The base Xbox controller is better for me based on the asymmetrical sticks. Add on that the Elite V2 is easily the best controller I've ever had
  • Microsoft seems to care more about BC than other hardware companies, which is sad bc those other companies introduced me to the idea and wanting it
  • GamePass makes it easy to try and buy
  • I like achievements more than trophies bc I have no drive to 100% with achievements

Switch for stuff that's RPGs and easy-to-run indie
PlayStation for stuff that isn't that but I really want a physical copy of
PC for everything else

Wouldn't really say I have a "primary" platform at this point, I'm pretty split. At the beginning of eighth gen I would have said PlayStation but the PS4 ecosystem didn't gel with me that well, but I'm still kinda invested in it since it's the only place that feels like it'll always get the Japanese stuff I need to play. I plan on building a PC and getting more into PC at....some point, whenever I can order a 3080 online or everyone gets vaccinated and they're available in-store.

PC/Xbox. Mainly because it's a library that moves across generations. Secondary consideration: performs typically better.

PC via Steam, mostly as I prefer PC for flexibility and not worrying about future backwards compatibility, along with Steam having the largest selection and being my oldest game platform account. I'm not ride or die about it or anything though, I'll get a game anywhere, Steam is just my default choice.

XSX > PS5 > Switch > PC is where I'm currently at but for most of my gaming life it's been PS > PC > Xbox > Nintendo

I had to downsize my space and don't have space for a desktop at the moment plus I kind of missed consoles thanks to nostalgia so I opted to sell my gaming pc and go with both new consoles for at least the start of the gen.

Only reason I've been using Xbox for my multiplat machine is because Sony PlayStation has done so much as a company that pisses me off for like the past 5 or so years but I'm so ingrained in their library I can't leave, for example one of my favorite franchises of all time is God of War.

If PlayStation ever started reliably putting games on pc then I'd probably figure out a way to go back to pc as my main platform like it was from about 2014 to early 2019.

This gen it is Xbox. I play exclusives on the others.

Generally, I prefer console gaming in the media room with my family over PC gaming in my office. Both setups are optimized for the platform though, so each definitely has its place.

PC:
Free online
Good prices
Free games
The refund policy on Steam is pure gold
You can use Xbox and PS controllers
Mods
Discord
Backward compatibility with every game (unless is broken af on w10)
M+KB for shooters
Diablo II

I love my PS5 too but after i switched to PC on 2019, PS is only for exclusives and games i can't run on my PC.

PC 99% of the time. It's cheaper and better in every way with more game options, Steam features, free online play, choice of M+KB/controller (I switch between them in some games), seamless multitasking etc. etc. The games are also not tied to a piece of hardware with a limited shelf life (Though that is changing for the better with MS/Sony backwards compatibility).

Consoles can't even pull the stability card anymore with so many console games crashing. I'm finding that playing on my PC is a more stable experience overall. Games crashing for me on PC is very rare.
