The thing is, Cawthorne backed off of the claim super fast.
And THEN the hits started coming. What incentive is there for him to maintain the walkback now? I want to see him fight fire with fire.

A Bret Kavanaugh type? I dunno...that's a different type of despicable asshole, from my lived experience. I'd be surprised if we saw pictures of Kavanaugh in what is essentially drag. But I do agree that cis straight men participate in these types of behaviors all the time...jokingly.

And really, the best outcome for non-Republicans is that he either just clears it or wins in a runoff. With the persistent growth of Asheville the district is going to keep trending blue, but is probably a few cycles away from flipping with a Republican candidate who isn't going to drive out opposition voters. Cawthorne is explicitly the guy to drive out opposition voters here.
He also has struggled with fundraising, isn't getting establishment help like he did last time likely due to the clear desire to torpedo him, and is having to spend a lot more against his primary opposition than he did last time.
So he could be vulnerable enough to make the seat flip. Its unlikley as everything outside Buncombe is hard red here, but he's probably a bigger risk on the November ticket than Chuck Edwards.
Who knows. Maybe there is some else they have on him. Something absolutely nuclear that will actually mean jailtime.

This is what I actually want to know. This had to be a private video held on someones phone at one point that was most likely deleted years ago. So howd they find it.
A fired staffer of his has been working with the PAC that leaked the video. This was probably passed around among the staff before she left. A bunch of the people on his team are just dumb friends he hired. This is exactly the type of thing that would float around the office group chat or slack when your chief of staff is a 26 y.o. whose only other job was at a fireworks stand.

Yes, they met shortly after Madison's trip to Russia where he met with an American Army captain in a casino. They were married, and from what I have read, he took his friend along with him on the honeymoon in Dubai. 8 months later, during which time they apparently never lived together, they were divorced. There are rumor mill type stuff that she was a Russian honeypot but I don't think there is any real evidence to support that.
It's certainly weird and I don't think you'll hear argument otherwise.
But like others have said in the thread, straight men doing perceived gay shit is the joke and has always been the joke. It was obviously a joke for him to nude hump a dude in the face. Is it a joke that is a manifestation of his secret desire to fuck men? I don't think anyone can definitively conclude that.
But that's assault. Assault isn't actually about sex or desire, it's about demonstrating and exerting power over someone else. Wanting to debase someone doesn't necessarily imply you are actually sexually attracted to them; what he's attracted to is his own capacity to prove his power over someone else.
When a guy pulls down another guy's pants to embarrass him in public, is he doing that because he's into that guy and wants to see his ass? Do frat guys spanking another guy's ass with a paddle do it because they like dudes, or because they want to feel more powerful than someone else they might otherwise perceive as an equal?
I'm not saying he's definitely not in to men, obviously none of us could know, but nothing about this suggests that's the case to me. If anything, it suggests he thinks the idea of male intimacy is something that can be used to sexually humiliate someone or as a big joke for attention.
